Deftones evolved musically for their records but they still put on the same nu-metal concert when they should’ve started trying to make their concerts more intense rather than straight energy like it was still the trendy music and the audience isn’t 20 years older. I’ve seen them several times. Sometimes they sound great, sometimes not. Tu what usually disappoints me is how there is no “show” to go with the music other than jumping around which takes away from the music.
Stephen not wanting to participate in this because of his weird vaccination beliefs bums me out. The band sold all these tickets ahead of time and then last minute announced that Stephen wasn't going to be there "because of everything going on in the world" when they clearly knew he wasn't down to travel from the get go. They really botched that one.
I've been a Deftones fan since their first album. Chino is know for his voice. His Haunting, beautiful voice. What the fuck was this. He's off his head on something. I'm so glad I didn't go and see them at this festival. Hopefully he'll be better in a smaller venue. I'm hoping so as I've just got a few friends into them and I want to take them to see them live. Chino better not mess it up like this.
He sounds great here, I get that a lot of the verses on this song are borderline whispered on the record, but it’d be really hard to mix that in a live setting like this, especially when he’s switching to screams so often. Dudes 49 and can still scream and keep up the energy needed for their early stuff, and I’m grateful they’re still together and touring so I’ve been able to see them at all. I was a teenager listening to a lot of metalcore in the early 2010’s and a lot of guys from that era have already shredded their voice and can’t play their old stuff live anymore, so the fact that chino can still pull off a song from 1997 is special. Go and have a good time and just enjoy the music dude
