That was awful to watch. Your use of your armor was poor. Your placement of your troops across the canal from Gondree Cafe meant you could not effectively hold your bridgehead. Your tanks need to redeploy to give their guns something to shoot at. The German TDs, while having powerful guns, have NO armor and you will one-shot kill them. Don't drive your tanks in front of their tanks or guns. Stay behind hedgerows until you can get the first shot. Use your numbers to overwhelm them one by one, then redirect them to crush the enemy infantry.
Your indecisive moves for the sole Sherman you had on the north bank meant you didn't clear the German infantry from the hedgerows like you needed to before your infantry was destroyed. You failed to put that Sherman into an ambush position where it might kill one or both of the Nashorns threatening you.
I didn't remember the game giving the Germans a second artillery strike with 2 minutes to go.
Only at the end did I realize you were playing head to head. Makes it much harder, doesn't it?

I was playing a strong veteran human player. It makes it a completely different game. No amount of AI handicap can compare to even a rookie human player.
I am surprised how you confidently chastised my strategy (rather rudely) without knowing for sure even what you were watching. I can't say this is my proudest performance, but this is a tricky map against a strong player. I definitely hesitated with my plan across the river, but that was a very vulnerable position. My battlegroups are trapped here and low on fuel and ammo so I have to be careful how much I risk.
About my tank placement...any tank with LOS to the enemy hedges across the river stands to be killed by a hidden ATG. You can see how instantly my one tank was killed by a single shot from an ATG when I let it move. I also risk receiving fire from German TDs breaching the hedges. This map is much more dangerous than you seem to realize and difficult to get safe angles of fire.
My Sherman across the river had about a 5m circle it could move around safely in. Clearing enemy infantry with a single pinned tank and cowering infantry escorts is easier said than done, especially at that range when German troops carry 30m Panzerfausts.
While those self-propelled pak40 tanks can be killed in one shot, it is not guaranteed, as you can see by my failed shots on them.
Could I have played this better? Absolutely. But hindsight is 20/20 and even concrete plans have a way of going to shit. Despite 1000s of hours of H2H Close Combat, I admit I still make mistakes and hesitate, but I have yet to lose a campaign to anyone in this mod from either side. It is a short list, but I like to think I am match for just about anyone in this game. I would be very interested in playing you H2H if you think my tactics are poor.

@@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat Yes, i didn't realize until the end you were up against a human player. Makes the degree of difficulty much higher. He played his armor both more aggressively and more carefully, though, and he sited his AT guns very well. When you drove your southern Sherman in FRONT of the hedge rather than behind the hedge....1000s of hours, you say?
I know this map is hard to win as the British- the German units are very powerful. But I think you had to risk that northern Sherman to start to clear hedgerows while you still had infantry to support you. They were only minutes away from capturing the Cafe and then just dropping Panzerfausts on you.
Did you have mortar teams that might have destroyed the German AT gun(s) and if you got lucky the Nashorns?

@kibbeystovall7546 The Sherman lost in the south was definitely lost to not being careful because I wasn't monitoring his movement and he crept too far into the N-S road. Monitoring every unit is difficult in H2H play. Moving behind the hedge wouldnt have mattered because it still would have ended up in the N-S road LOS, only with an added risk of tracking itself crossing the hedge.
You can claim what you think the north Sherman should have done all day, but he could have died instantly just as easy had I moved him earlier. Any exposure to that hedge could have been death by faust, ATG or TD. Same if he went the other way. Even when we started that Sherman came under fire from an ATG. Luckily we were able to smother it with fire that I had trained on that lower part of the hedge (the only part I could not get defilade from).
There is literally no "clearing those hedges" as his entire battlegroup had free access to shift to those hedges. So unless you expected me to wipe out all 15 of his units with two pinned infantry and a tank, I am not sure what you thought was going to happen there. It was just a small contingency trying to not give up a hard fought gain from last battle. I simply couldn't afford to risk more than that, nor was there room for many more teams to deploy there.
Our main objective here is to keep the enemy from crossing that bridge until our allies can break in from the north, and we did that. Holding the bridge was a bonus. A bonus we earned, I think, by lasting as long as we did north of the river. We each lost two support units, and allies only lost 8 more soldiers. Not a bad outcome, especially since allies can afford to lose more.
I had light mortars. Mortars can kill guns sometimes but it is a dice roll like anything else and range and ammo matter greatly. They spent most of their ammo knocking out the first ATG.
Yes I have played 1000s of hours of H2H. I have this file saved so if you would ever like to try to do what you claim should have been done, we can. I can also let you be Germans and you see if you can fare as well as my opponent.

@@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat I would be very interested in watching the battle replay you suggest, STRIKE. I have watched a few of your LSA battles lately and appreciate the skill shown -- you and your various opponents. I am trying to learn this game. I played the original CC2 for about 10 years, with much old school ladder and tourney play. Loved it! But, I never worked on the campaign game, and really need to work to understand it with LSA. In that regard, I would love it if you could add a bit more "context" description to your game play vids to let folks like me know how that given battle fits into your campaign, and what you hope to achieve with it. Otherwise, thanks again for posting these. Appreciate the comments too -- that's a big part of how I can learn too.

@@mrmyke Thanks. I am glad you enjoy the streams.
Do you think people would read synopses in the video descriptions? That would be the quickest way I could add the context you speak of.
I would love to add text/markups and/or vocal commentary sometime. I may pick some select videos to do this with. I have also thought about making playlists of battle streams of single maps throughout a campaign, making notes of how we attacked the map, entries and overall strat and what not.
If you are interested in chatting about CC tips, strat, or fun you should join the CC discord. We love to talk about the game there. If the link in the description doesn't work just message me and I'll send you one.
