Recently started listening to 90's music. Dang, the tunes were so much richer with melodies and lyrics that MEANT SOMETHING ! In today's music, it's all about the hook with practically no emphasis on words or meaning. It's really quite SAD how music has changed so much. Being a Gen X'er, I really wish to have been born one or two decades earlier to enjoy music from a generation that placed more values on melody and words. Vanessa's performance here is a perfect example.
Record companies actually invested in artists and saw them as investments and not liabilities. Flashy videos, stylists, media training with PR and choreographers. Executives, A&Rs believed in turning talent into artists. In 2024, you're expected to have a massive audience on social media and successful concerts. Why would you sign a record deal today?
Vanessa Williams really released some top quality music. Great voice and stage presence. These American Idol, X Factor wannabees could learn a thing or two from singers who could sing and emote~
The Comfort Zone album was great, including one of the biggest songs of 1991 "Save the best for last" but this was my favorite track. These are some of my other favorites by Vanessa Williams: 1. These are the days 2. Where do we go from here 3. Oh, how the years go by 4. Colors of the Wind - Pocahontas movie soundtrack 5. Love is (feat. Brian McKnight)
Though it didn't go far up in the Billboard charts, it was this song that convinced me that Vanessa Williams' true calling might be music after all. It is a fine example of 90s R&B, well produced and sung with a dramatic restraint yet managing to let the feelings come across. Thanks for uploading the video, I never got to see it in its day. She is absolutely stunning in it! @.@
Que isso..., que música !!! Desde minha minha adolescência, na década de 80,eu ouço músicas da Vanessa Willians. Que bons momentos..., aliás, sou um eterno adolescente! Parabéns pela postagem. Demais!!! Um abraço a todos..., William.
Two reasons: Record companies ploy to make you buy the record this song is in, and this was not a major hit for her, despite the fact that is one of her VERY BEST songs. The song did not perform well in neither the POP chart or the R&B chart or even the Adult Contemporary chart. If they ever release a VERY BEST collection, this will definitely be in it.
Hater..Non of HER peers can compete in any way with Vanessa, not even close. As a classically trained singer and our first Black Ms. America (when it meant something) not-only is her beauty Unmatched but otherworldly. This 16x Grammy nominated singer and Broadway Superstar doesn't need to (scream) to get her point across nor did she come from the Gospel Church of screaming, instead she idolized woman like Barbara and Bette, studied Musical theater and became a (real) triple threat, not just some media induced singer turned actress type of shi%. Until you can name a single peer of Vanessa Williams; dead or alive who can SING DANCE and ACT you must have several seats. Fuc$ a hit single, she already has one, two or three maybe four or five, this came right after her snooze fest Save the Best for Last, which sat in the #1 Pop spot for 5 or 6 weeks which explains why this only made it to the #20 Adult contempo. In my humble opinion, unlike Ms. Whitney "crack" Houston.... Vanessa Williams didn't need another BILLBOARD hit, she was born One.
What are you talking about? This song went to #2 on the US Adult Contemporary chart, #11 on the US Hot R&B chart and #26 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Get your facts straight.
IKR, USA is right Up Kenya's alley, NO TALENT NOR EDUCATION REQUIRED. How embarrassing when everyone except Kenny, knows The "Ms. America" pageant is a talent competition in which, the Winner only receives scholarship money. Big, HUGE difference! And yall wonder WHY 16x Grammy nominated Broadway Superstar survived and sustained the very first salacious scandal known to mankind during a time when "Ms. America" really mattered? it's called TALENT boo boo. She was discovered by the pageant officials while performing musical theater, not pinching her pennies like Kenya and her infamous teeth pre-USA. LAWD, yall better put some respect on Ms. Williams The ICON's name. Now, back to Kenya, who!?
Still sounds great in 2023!!🎉 🫶🏾 Vanessa!!!
Unbelievably gorgeous song beautifully performed.

This is a great song still in summer of 2024! Love it!

Nothing was, nothing is and nothing will ever be able to TOUCH 90's R&B. Best R&B Era. And that's saying alot coming from an 80's baby!
Yup 90s R&B .. all down hill from there
I agree
87 to 92 was so distinct and I agree. There was nothing in the r & b genre I didn't love in this limited period of time.
I like this version better, and I remember hearing it on the radio back in the early 90s.
this woman absolutely defines class, beauty and sultriness. Just lovely.
It is indeed one of her better songs, if not her best ballad, in my opinion.
Thirty years ago this classic dropped. Shouts out to the graduating class of 1992. Happy 30th Class Reunion keep rocking ✌🏾❤
Beautiful song....Beautiful singer...Beautiful video❤..
Could always hear a longing in here voice and see it in her eyes.
