Frozen veggies have already been blanched and if you need freezer space and have a dehydrator you can dehydrate them directly from the from the frozen state and vac seal them for storage. My rule is dehydrate veggies and use freezer space for meat... Thanks Danno

The only canned vegetable at Aldi‘s that is $.65 now is peas corn and green beans have went to $.75. At my Walmart they are still $.64 for the great value brand. Things are really going up in price.!! Especially since this is the time of year when they mark down the canned food because it is harvest time. I remember getting Del Monte canned vegetables three for a dollar for four dollars a case not that long ago.

I love the Great Value frozen veggies. They make the best stir fry! Other brands turn to mush very quickly for me, lol. GV veggies are sturdier. And for diabetics who use the preloaded insulin pens Walmart makes needles. They're called ReliOn and they're behind the pharmacy counter. I believe they come in 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm. They are $9 for 50! We were using 4mm BD Nano needles at $60 for 100. That's an insane price difference, especially if supplies are an out of pocket cost.

Peanut butter really only needs to have two things: peanuts and salt. What it doesn't need is the three different kinds of sugar that the Great Value brand adds in the form of regular old sugar, dextrose, and molasses. Additionally, this peanut butter contains hydrogenated cottonseed, rapeseed, and soybean oils.

  • @tonette6592

I have dehydrated a lot of the GV frozen mixed vegetables, in fact,I did a two lb bag yesterday. I think in bouillon or broth with a can of meat, pasta or rice, makes a great, fast, and an easy, healthy emergency meal.
GV Cheese is good. Walmart is one of the few brands that has non-smoke flavored provolone.
Great Value is also the only one I can find WHOLE WHEAT CRACKERS. They do not have a strong flavor and they hold up without breaking as fast as the originals.
GV Pasta is good, the GV canned vegetables are good. (Meijers' are awful)
Let me add that EQUATE bladder leakage and feminine panty liners and pads are very good and great buys; far below name bands and just as good if not better, (trust me.)

My dehydrator didn't dry mixed vegetables correctly. The peas were done and hard but the carrot and green beans still had moisture. I had to buy and dehydrate separately then combine them to get a mixed batch. Will it hurt the peas if I run a mixed batch until its all dry?

    • @tonette6592

I buy the Great Value frozen blueberries--the berries are huge (I bake a lot of muffins). You're right. The quality is excellent. I honestly don't think you can beat Walmart plus. I say this as I'm sitting here waiting on another home delivery from them. I'm chatting with my shopper on the phone while I'm watching your video on my computer. Thanks for doing this Walmart video! Also, 2 other items I buy constantly are the whole pork loin ($8.64) which I slice into boneless pork chops or cube for city chicken, and the frozen chicken breasts or tenderloins ($10.34 for 3 pound bag is a slight increase from $9.98) . These are 2 excellent products. Walmart vowed to keep all of its Great Value pasta products under $1.00 for as long as possible. I think that's very empathetic of them to understand that most people are shopping on a budget,

If you want to get into the food preservation game, a food dehydrator is probably one of the over all, cheapest way, requires few additional supplies, and has one of the least amount storage requirements. Frozen veggies have become very popular to freeze dry because they are so easy to do: thaw in a strainer so that as much liquid drops off, put single layer on the foid dehydrator trays, load the trays into the dehydrator, and turn it on until dry.
In general, most veggies mudt be blanched before being dehydrated. Frozen veggies have been blanched. Tye puree used to make fruit leathers need to go on a silicone mat (often a separately sold add-on) although through the yesrs there have beennsome workarounds. Many people dehydrate onions and other odiferious items outside 'casue they stink up the house. Certainly in the 1970's and 1980's there were jerky recipies for the dehydrator too; they like all jerky's are salt laden.
If youre looking for a new dehydrator, try to be able to afford one with a temperature control. This makes creating your own dried spices and herbs much easier and more possible. Even if you don't have a row of parsley out in the back yard garden, fresh parsely comes on suoer sale in the grocery store every so often; frequently spring and Thanksgiving. Investing in parsely and dehydrating it for use during thenyear can be upto a significant savings over buying it in the spice bottles at the grocery store. In many parts of the country, there are places you can afford to buy other fresh herbs (especially in a dehydrator's worth of quantity all at once) and dehydrating them yourself remains cheaper than buying them already dried from the spice rack.

Hi, great value butter comes in on the Cabot truck. Great value milk is Oakhurst brand, I believe if Oakhurst is out of their market share it is your leading brand?! Wal-Mart is supposed to be equal or better quality! This was Mr. Sam's belief! Something today at Wal-Mart fall short of! The Walton Family no - longer have controlling interest in Walmart. 47 - 48 percent is a good amount, but it seems to change the dynamics of the Company?! Even with a lot of the Waltons on the board of directors. Anyone interested control was lost 7 - 10 years ago, officially that is! So, thank-you danno for your much needed help!

I haven't been in a walmart since the pandemic, but I order from them online a couple of times a month. I don't eat the canned veggies directly (not a diss, I just prefer fresh or the steamable bags), but I use them for food storage and as part of a recipe, such as soups. As a single person, it's too easy for food to spoil on me, no matter how careful I am. So things like canned mixed veg or carrots come in handy, and they're inexpensive.

I like Picksweet, because they don't add things like salt. I normally won't buy GV saltiness, because they break too easily. Great video. Ty.

I agree about the saltines, they taste ok, but are crumbly.

A while back one of the stores next to me put their pasta on sale. It was like 50% off at that time it was pre covid so the price was like 79 cents regularly. I bought $35 worth to put back. Pretty much wiped them out

We like their low salt chips. We don’t like their sliced Swiss cheese though.

My “buy” price for butter is $1.99/lb, so I haven’t bought butter at Walmart for a long time now. I buy the maximum I can whenever I can get it for $1.99 - just got 5 lbs from Kroger today for the freezer.

I agree the Peanut Butter is ok for the price. Is it on the same level as Skippy/Jiff not really but very close. But you save 25% so to put it back it's worth it.

The 2 pack of butter is even cheaper. And I remember pre pandemic the saltines were .88 a 4 pack.

We take real Sudafed for our allergies and always bought from Walmart for $6. It jumped up past $9 last week. That’s quite a hike! I was just shocked. Still cheaper than most places, but now only by 2 dollars. Also Kroger has omeprazole $1 less than Walmart for a long time now. Yet, overall Walmart is the best option overall still
