Can't tell you how many projects I've undertaken where I've:
made, done, built, fixed something after having gone in completely ignorant, feeling way in over my head. But being perpetually curious- I approached the project as an opportunity to learn with the plan to take it as far as I could, then call in help only when completely stuck.
99% of the time I've managed to surprise myself... utilizing nuggets of wisdom from outside input or- the incredibly vast RUclips library- I've taken things to completion with a better result than I'd imagined I could accomplish, and a new skill and confidence to try more things. Amazing time we live in, so fortunate with so much good information available to us.
Thanks much for the inspiration- I really have make a board in the future.

Thanks for sharing 🤙did you finish the board (filling and coating) or just took it out to go surfing straight after laminating?

@@GARAASJ I did sort of a hybrid, didn’t feel the need to ad unnecessary weight. I show what I did on my website.

I am a California surfer who has moved to the upstate area of South Carolina. Wind wing foil surfing seems really appealing. I’m sure you have this laid out somewhere, but I need to find the foil you used / suggest.

Hi, if you are asking what foil is good for learning, I have a guide here: clayisland.com/what-foil-gear-do-i-need-gear-questions-answered/

Just know it may delam if it gets hot. I've done 4 XPS foil boards with the whole vacuum setup and they all delamed once the weather got hot and the temperature fluctuated a lot. They all lasted about 6 months before they start to delam. The plus is that you can rip the glass off the foam and reuse it, unlike EPS.

I have heard this from other folks as well. We have a 2 year old prototype, some parts delamed most did not. Researched other methods for a year and several different techniques have been tested. This is a different approach, I also test ripped the glass off this board and relaminted.

@@clayisland Hopefully it lasts a year or so for you. Since you're in the northern part of the state where it stays cool most of the time it may last longer. Best of luck with it, and fill us in on how long it lasts. If we could solve the delam issue with XPS it would be the ultimate foam. They've been trying to make it work for 20+ years. One current method to deal with the delam issue is to poke thousands of micro holes in the skin to allow for off-gasing on heating, but that won't work for us because we're gluing the layers together and water can penetrate between the layers. It's a tough game. Really, all I want is a hollow plastic board with a drain plug that is built like a kayak with solid tracks/stringers that run the whole length of the board. I can't imagine that I could engineer a wing/SUP board to weigh less than 10 lbs in this manner, but it could for sure be under 15lbs and strong. And since it'd be hollow, the volume of the board would not need to be as large. I need $10,000 to 3D print one at scale though.
