    Great video. No talking. No bs, just start to the point! I hate when I watch tutorials and I have to keep skipping forward cuz the person talks too much and I just want to get the job done

    I appreciate the builds and was able to build the double barn doors that you posted and they worked out great, but I think your cost estimate on these are off. Just on the wood alone you would be over $80 and then adding the glue, $4, the wood filler $6, the trim head nails $10, the sanding block $3 and the paint (at least $10) you would be way over $100. Again not sure if you are getting your materials for much less somewhere, but I get a 10% discount at Lowes and the wood alone on the double barn doors I built where way over the price that you said the project would cost. Do you have a trick to getting the materials much cheaper?

    • @yunkie12
      @yunkie12 6 лет назад

      I have done quite a few of the barn doors from here and I usually spend less than the price listed.
      In my experience, that store is verrrrry easy to beat on price. Where I live they are double+ the price I normally spend just on 2x4's. It get's worse from there. 😅😅😅Every time I have gone there and thought I found a deal on something, some manager comes out of nowhere and claims fault and apologizes. The last time, they simply said they would give me 10% off of a future purchase. Well...If I don't intend to then...😱😱They just made me leave to purchase from a competitor & didn't give 1 iota. Oh yeah, I will rush back to pay more just to get 10% off. 😜😜

      Buy at Menards, their wood prices are the best. That is where they shop, Lowes and Depot can't compete on lumber with Menards.

    Curious about the math and calculations...unless I'm mistaken, the height of your door is 80" as you mentioned....but the sum of the two end pieces (each 8" wide) and the length of the three "up and down" pieces (65 1/2") would add up to about 81 1/2"....who's off, me and my math or your measurements? I just wanna be sure before I take on this project...thank you!

      would like to know this also, AND
      width of the door from my calc should be 12.75 x 2 + 4 x 3 = .37.5 but the sheet is 36 in width?

      I always cut my peices as I go instead of pre cutting like this because if you are off one it throws everything off. Just cut your door peice and then measure those as you go. My measurements never match anyone else's when I try.

      I didn't do the math but generally speaking a 1x8 is really 3/4×7.5. Hope that helps.

    Made it and love it! Highly suggest doing these extra things: pre-drill all holes in the MDF and countersink screws. It's kind of ugly without. Prime the back before painting. Also not pretty without. And I sealed the whole door with paint-on waterbased acrylic. Dont use spray paint or will be really uneven and you'll have to do again. From experience 😁

    • @just4fun-family145
      @just4fun-family145 3 года назад +1

      Great build and you ha e some good ideas. Just a tip, prime with a non water based primer (zinsser cover stain) two coats then paint with any paint you want. Water based will cause swelling as it’s basically compressed cardboard. Also for glassy finish, consider the graco handheld sprayer.. (sand between coat with 400 grit and clean with tack cloth) leaves a glass like finish !

    This is a beautiful door. Would this work for a home theater room entrance? My husband is concerned about it not closing as well as a traditional door for sound proofing. Can you tell me does this lay flat or have you noticed more noise through the door than the traditional doors? What are your thoughts?

    • @TheRehabLife
      @TheRehabLife  5 лет назад

      Barn doors in general won't lay completely flat against a wall. If you're looking for a tighter seal that buries the sound this probably isn't a good option. Sorry!

      Casi Doherty I was wondering that at the beginning as well. I’m guessing surface finish. The paint will have a nice uniform finish. Knots and defeats in plywood would show through. I would really worry about tear-out from the hardware on MFD though.
