I wish there had been these videos 16 years ago when I was feeding a family of 3 on like 25 a week! While the meals may not be the most nutritious (in some people's opinions), a lot of people do not have the privilege of worrying about the nutritional aspect of meals; they're worried about putting food in their babies' bellies. So thank you for these types of videos!!

Isn't that the truth?! My kids are all grown now but I had 2 years in a row where I only had between 10 & 25 dollars a week to feed them. While working full time and doing the best I could to keep a roof over our heads. Lots of macaroni and butter and toast for breakfast. Very difficult times financially yet they survived and appreciate all that they have today. These types of videos would have been a life saver for me!

When we were in a top financial situation I knew exactly how to feed my family. For any of you who have kids like mine who are gluten/enriched foods, dairy-free (mine break out in eczema) know that Latin recipes are super friendly and inexpensive. Not just Mexican food (we are not all Mexican), but in general our pollo guisado, rices, plantains and much more can go a long way.

My daughter is gluten and enriched intolerant and broke out into hives. I had to make two separate meals, one that she can have and one my husband would actually eat because he's a big cry baby when it comes to food. Of he could have his way, he'd eat burgers and milkshakes for the rest of his life

So right. And their are gluten free(most). Also, ASian food are great for big family meals. I would buy more ground meat, eggs and veggies. Frozen veggies work wonderful. Or when they have veggies on sale, buy and cut them up and put them in the freezer. They work great for fast meals.

Watching your cutting board move when you're cutting on it gives me the heebie-jeebies! SUGGESTION! Put a wet paper towel, or damp cloth (like a hand towel) underneath and it won't move! This also helps with cutting boards that are old and starting to bow/warp. You could also purchase some of that no-slip-grip shelf liner, too, but I find a paper towel/hand towel works just as well, for free.

Thanks for the tips. Potatoes are the workhorse for streching meals. They can even be made into pasta and deserts. Potato flour donuts can rock your world. Potato flour can thicken your sauces and gravies. A rasper, zester, mortise and pestile will precess food the old traditional way. Sugar in water will make a simple syrup. Machedamia nuts make a good tasting blender nut milk. Eggs can make a no flour cake and breads.

Thank you so much for the bread recipe! A little over a year ago I started trying to make bread and every single time it didn’t turn out. I had pretty much given up. But today tried your recipe as one last ditch effort to make bread and it turned out great the first time. Every other recipe was so much more complex and impossible to pull off

I agree about boiled hot dogs. My parents always made them that way when I was a kid and the thought of them just makes me gag... *hot dog water* gag gag. Same reason I cannot eat boiled chicken or really chicken on the bone. I love the breakfast casserole idea and think the smell of peppers and onions is one of the best smells.

@@raquellambropoulos279 not everything is expensive, cherries are expensive but strawberries aren't.
Cucumbers are cheap and mixed with sour cream/Greek yoghurt, salt and pepper make a great side dish, carrots and apples are cheap and if you shred and mix them, add some sugar, salt and pepper you have a nice side dish, there's a ton of simple cheap nutritious things like that.
And yeah, frozen is always better than canned. You can even freeze your own. I do that with herbs, they last a really long time and therfore seem cheap (I used to think they're expensive because they go bad quickly and I ended up tossing them) 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@d-meth my toddlers go through fruit really really quickly, so I have to be super strategic about what I buy. Even strawberries are a treat in our house because they’ll be gone in a day. So I buy a big bag of apples, clementines only when they’re in season (because they’re cheaper then), and bananas and that’s pretty much it for fruit. During summertime I’ll get a watermelon because they’re cheaper then. But most people can afford fruit if they’re strategic. And you’re right. Carrots are very cheap. So is cabbage. Onions are cheap. Those are pretty staple vegetables although I also normally get frozen broccoli, which is only $1 a bag at Walmart. So it’s possible to do this! I keep a low budget for food, but it isn’t as low as what many people have to do and I’m thankful for that. I’ve never had to deal with $25 for the week or something like that so I can’t say how I would go about purchasing with that little amount.

Depending on where you live it's easy to grow spinach or lettuce mixes, when it's warm. I bought a container garden that's on wheels from Lowe's for my apt. Use raised bed soil, it retains moisture. And the containers had a reservoir in the bottom to hold water.
