They're awesome but it's super loud and they said it would be quiet. The rear rotor is the only problem. Do like Russia and have 2 counter rotating main rotors.. then you don't need the tail rotor and sound is instantly cut in half. The commanche sounds like a chainsaw coming for miles
@@lastar106 i think they won't as the enemy thinks a ground vehicle is coming at them, cause DANG that sounds like a motorcycle plus the Comanche sounds like a gator in heat when mating season hits them XD
there are armada of better helis just waiting to be actually needed in the battlefield. the reason they keep em hidden is because theres really no reason to show off what you got to the world if all the enemies you have can be dealt with 50 year old craft.
ghoulunathics is right, my understanding, is that they have been working on some impressively scary machines lately, that the Comanche was a partial inspiration for, in terms of overall stealth...(improved speed, & lift, are rumored as well)

You can barely hear this thing until its like literally right on top of you. A few hundred yards out and you can't hear shit. Try that with any other captor.
It amazes me how maneuverable and how quiet this aircraft is, to the point where I wonder why it was cancelled, especially considering cost overruns was one of the reasons, especially when the F-35 wasn't cancelled.

ok i listen to the performance ;) sound is cool! i hope in the future they will be able to make it even more silent by changing the edges or shape of the rotor blades..
+gab It worked how they wanted, they just canceled it because the rise of drones negated the need for a limited role scout helicopter. You can make a drone do everything this can but at 1/4 the price.
@@OOTurok I agree they should have used it for something. This thing was too dope to just abandon. This should have been our next gen stealth attack helicopter. The only problem is is that that attack helicopters probably don't need to be stealthy, that's why they haven't stopped using the Apache's. We used a stealth chopper for the Bin Laden raid but that was too carry troops, not as an front line offensive weapon. We should switch to stealth choppers to stop them from getting shot down by shoulder mounted rockets. Plus you should see some other videos of the Apache flying around, you literally can't hear them until they're like right on top of you.
I honestly think they should at least remove the military stuff and turn it into a civilian 2 seater with extra fuel or luggage in place of where weapons were. At least then it's not a total waste of money. Make some of that money back that was spent on developing it
We have helicopters fly over house blacked out at night that sound just like these. Is there anything else in the military that sounds like these? I thought apaches but they just sound like normal helicopters.
A lot of modern helis seem to sound like this to me, I think if you can tell the difference, you can listen to the rate at which the blades beat the air, I wanna say bigger helis sound like they have a slower "chop-rate"... My guess is a life-flight maybe for a hospital?
They could at least use the engine specs, the rotor system and the transmission in some other helicopter because I've never seen flight characteristics of any other helicopter as that of the Comanche. So sad that the whole project was scrapped, almost at the point of completion.
Nice vid this semi final battle lookin helicopter u all call chopper that goes rahw would be nice for a stunt shows but it sound like shit, any sound improvement? .

prolly the biggest mistake military wise was scrapping the commanche project. this thing would be deadly in the field

I'll never forgive the bastard that cancelled the comanche
Senators with degrees from shitty colleges thought they knew better than the military.
Why was it cancelled???
I think they're going relyon drones for the recon work.
The avionics would get too hot
@@Angry.General1461 It was considered to be too expensive and it would require further modifications to make it an attack helicopter......

Was at P&W in Jupiter '98,'99 and saw the pair often. A real treat, and yes the sound...
I worked at Sikorsky from Aug 86 until Mar 2000.
.I saw the aircraft on its test flights...
wow. i have goose bumps hearing that. i've never heard this ship until now. have been a fan for a decade
Tom Clancy (Debt of Honor) said these were quiet-compared to other attack helicopters, he's right. Way Cool.
exactly what brought me here haha
They're stealth choppers. The helicopter is more quieter because it's a reconnaissance and attack helicopter
I love this helicopter
Tom Clancy forever
That is the most metal thing I've ever heard in my whole life.
Omg I've never heard a Comanche before......it purrs like a Leopard.
That rigid rotor system.....I have goosebumps.
Such a beautiful beast in the sky, so sad it didn’t make it into full production, it had so much potential
Such an amazing chopper! I hope they are secretly developing it again

San Francisco has a medical helicopter that's even more silent than this.

The Harley Davidson of helicopters.
sounds so badass and evil all at once

It was not expensive it was copied by china thats why production stop

it was cancelled due to drones being cheaper and more effective at recon missions which was going to be the Comanche role in first place

Most of the sound you hear is from the ducted fan, not the rotor blades.
I had the flight sim game for the Comanche and I was so disappointed when they shelved this bird.
