Todd Edwards Historic 1st UK Show Romford, 2003

- This is a clip from Todd Edwards legendary performance in the UK for the first time live at 4by4, Time & Envy, in Romford, United Kingdom. This performance, specifically this exact moment and track (todd edwards- wishing i were home), has gone down as one of the most iconic performances of house and UK garage.
This clip means a lot to me, whether its the beauty of the track itself, or the crowd and their reactions, it shows the enormous power music can have on human beings. People of all backgrounds, gathered in one place for one reason only, to enjoy life and to listen to music. Not only is it a profound moment in house music, but it is a wonderful moment in history. We take moments like this for granted, and that's why when i saw this clip was deleted from RUclips, i felt like i needed to reupload it for people to enjoy, and be able to visit this moment in time.
I DO NOT OWN THIS FOOTAGE AND AM ONLY UPLOADING IT FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY AND CHERISH.
Hopefully we all experience moments like these in the future.
It needs to be online

Im sure theyll try to take mine down as well.

The most beautiful thing about this video is the fact he had no idea just how much people love his music in the U.K.. I grew up djing garage and it’s mental how even the darkest grime sets still play Todd. I do miss the good old time and envy days in Romford man, I live in seattle now and no dance music scene compares to London in the early 2000s
i am a seattle resident myself and a blossoming house lover, me and you could make a new scene
@@pneu_8365 Kremwerk puts on some great dance music events, could defo start something there
you can see his eyes light up when he clocks the crowds reaction during the set opener, sensational
Where is the American dance music scene?
I saw an interview with him and he said he didn’t know what a rewind was before this 😂. Class!
shout to all the crowd now in their 40s
And us 50 year olds 😆👍🙏
I just thought this 😂💯💯
Not yet.
Lol their about 36 now not 40 lol bloddy hell
Lol I was born in 2003 and I’m banging these tunes at 17 👍🏻
Todd said recently on his tiktok that he had no idea what a rewind was so he just stopped the set 😂😂😂 fucking legend
damnn, i thought he cared to much about the vinyl, so he didn't want scratch it
😂
The smile of a man fully seeing what his music did for people. Pure appreciation. What a guy
Fi real. Proper uplifting riddim
Saw him commenting on this video not long ago, he said he had stage fright and had never had a crowd react like this to him playing
And still to this day
Dude at 1:08 quietly pleased with himself that he took the first photograph at Todd’s first UK show. I hope he still has it!
Semi digital style too
My mum knows errol i could ask her lol

that smile from ear to ear, a dj that loves his job
When people react to you playing like this, that feeling is not from this world man.
I have had the joy of causing this reaction in a club once on the decks and I cannot describe the feeling of a crowd vibing that much to something....
I live to be there for those moments, and if I'm lucky cause them....
@@rendy5092 expecially to your own music man, must just be legendary
@@rendy5092 same pfp haha
Love the smile on Todd's face at the beginning when he dropped out the first tune
Impressed with the enthusiasm of the uk crowd. American dj's have always loved playing here and have been appreciated more than back home. Even the earlier late 80's / 90's dj's have publicly said that. We've always been their bread and butter
Its very endearing to watch his reaction. Doubt he'd have gotten even half the reception playing in the states. Must have been an absolute buzz
he just tastes the first reload
Refreshing when the yanks see how
we do out here

I know nothing about Todd Edwards or Uk Garage but this just gave me insane goosebumps.
Check out his music! Get a hold of the stuff he did with Saint Germain Same Thing!
Welcome and enjoy the world of UKG buddy
Random US producer discovers his tunes are the most popular in an underground music scene across the world. In a nutshell
same here man, idk where to start.
You should read his entire story how he became a mythical legend as no one knew who he was over here, then he sunk into depression and lost everything and then years later he's stood on the stage accepting his Grammy with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers for Random Access Memories, incredible
I'm 20 and this feels like something that is ahead of even today's remixes. this is insane.
cos most of todays music is terrible

im glad the camera man had the thought to capture as much of the CROWD as he did - not common back then at shows in video!
Not a phone in sight, everyone living the moment. The good old days, oh how we didn’t realise how precious they were…
Not a mobile phone in sight! Tremendous times! What a tune!!
Because you had "minutes" on your phone. Especially before 10p.m. and during the work week(this was a Wednesday) It was quite expensive. Texting after 10 was all you could really do.
@@timharper4246 and that’s if you even had a mobile 😂
I saw quite a lot of digital cameras
@@CJbrinkman602 the cameras that I saw weren’t digital. The majority of cameras 20 years ago were still 35mm film cameras. The masses started to adopt Digital cameras about 3 or 4 years after this video

That transition to wishing I were home is absolutely scrumptious
It's not a transition. It's his intro so it's just one tune
@@duanecooper80 there is a transition in the track itself though
@@duanecooper80 it’s a sample of the carpenters - maybe it’s you - if you skip to about 1 min 25 you’ll hear it :)
This is absolutley legendary footage, the hype from the crowd is what these tunes deserve, second half of this video would b sick to see!
This sound absolutely summed up London from 97-2003, I was there, I saw it, I felt it
UKG was a total British phenomenon that TE totally got 🙏🏼
I live in South Africa and I have been following Todd for years, what an underrated living legend. Keep it up my brother.
You're a legend yourself brother! Where you from in South Africa? How cool! Is there any sort of House or Garage scene there??
Love from Detroit bro 🙏
Vibes omg!!! Little known fact Todd did vocals for Daft Punks Face to Face on Discovery. That's how pioneering Mr Edwards was for the time.
Wow, how do you know about this?

Phones weren’t invented yet
i was introduced to uk garage during the 2020 quarantine and later discovering todd edwards work. he’s a pretty cool guy and im a bit sad for discovering this genre so late.
That’s the same time I found him too! Some of his songs take me back to that time. Still discovering new songs of his today. Really talented dude.
Better late than never

Look how this people are smiling, no phones, no more stupid things - just the moment
And drugs
this is what its all about all races n ages coming together n having a great time. None of the divisionary shit government and media vomit
Agreed. Underground dance music is the only genre that can do that.
so glad for this cameraman thank you
It’s insane how ahead of his time Todd was. That first mix sounds like something Sammy Virji could drop today and it would be a hit.
EZ, Lamont, Todd. What a line up. Nice mixed crowd, no bad vibes AND vinyl... ah the good old days...
Don’t forget Karl Tuff Enuff!
1:38 I love that look he gives to the crowd as if to say 'is this the sound you want?' 😎
hahaha, love it.
The culture & the positive vibe UK Garage brought to the UK night life scene will be tuff to replicate. So blessed to have been part of it. ❤️✌🏾🤟🏾
Currently my favourite clip on the whole of RUclips.
A real DJ buzzing off a real crowd who are buzzing off his own tune.
I said the 90's were where it was all at.
The early 00's didn't do too bad either👌🏼
Bang on there mate , today they would be playing on their mobile phones
@@richardevans7035 give it a rest mate
The production in this sample is MAGNIFICENT. Todd just gets it. His work with daft punk was fabulous.
He probably never seen reactions like this live before. He must have been buzzing.
The type of drop where you don't even care if you've just spilled the entire pint you've waited for a hour down your new Ralphe Lauren white shirt
Definitely the most wholesome video on RUclips. What a moment!
Simply magic. EZ was hammering his tunes for years and years before this moment. I must have seen this 50 + times but it's never getting old.
Todd's grin 😇
This was Todd's first visit to the UK in like a decade or more. His stuff wasn't getting much love in the US but he knew it was popular over here. Obviously he'd never seen it for himself, so seeing the reaction on this night was kinda mindblowing for him lol.
@@_D1886 straight up appreciation
Damn, I remember watching this back in the day. Todd Edwards is one of my favorite producers/djs. His music got me through a severe depression I experienced about a decade or so ago. I wish I could have been a part of an event like this.
Love this!!

Never been a fan of UK Garage. I leaned more towards US and deeper sounds. Todd Edwards being a big exception. Man's a legend with a unique and uncopyable remix and production style.
The way he produced face to face for daft punk shows his actual real friggen talent. Even did the vocals too! Adore him
Oh shit that was him?! Face to face cut through that whole album in such a way. Will always stick with me.
Back in those days i remember Romford felt like the Garage epicentre of the UK. Great memories!
You know if EZ is moving that it’s good! What a wholesome video for the purest DJ

Time to Care was the first Todd Edwards vinyl I bought from City Sounds on D’Ablay Street in SoHo. Early 2000s were an amazing time for 4x4 UKG

Todd’s loving it big time with that smile on his face, bless him..😋
Did you there was a Guardian news article saying that Todd's career was quiet at home, but he was shocked to find out his songs were big on the UKG scene. And because he was going through a depression, he didn't go to the UK to DJ and promote his music as much he should. Todd should have been FAR more successful, but he let his records do the talking.
