The big stars were great, but James Anderson (Ruby's brother) gave another of his best roles. He was the despicable Tom Ewell in To Kill A Mockingbird. I was snubbed as a 9 year-old when my best friend was a black girl. I was as angry as Ruby, but I didn't get to pay them back. It still goes on with the rich looking down their noses, and always will. Great movie-TY!

There is a scene where Jennifer Jones slapped Charlton Heston in the face. She slapped him so hard she broke her hand. She said that you'll notice in some scenes she is wearing jewelry on her wrist to distract from the brace.
I think my Mom looked a bit like Jones as well, dark hair & eyes & thickish brows, high cheek bones, a full face, similar nose, nice skin. Jennifer Jones was born Phylis Lee Isley, on March 2, 1919 - December 17, 2009, known as Jennifer Jones Simon. She was married to Robert Walker 1st, then to David O Selznick, and finally to Norton Simon.
You must see the portrait of Jennie Jennifer Jones and Joseph cotten 😊 hauntingly beautiful score featuring Debussy reverie. The girl with the flaxen hair 🎼🎼🎼
The men treated her like "anybody's", even though they never had her. The one man who could have her used her, discarded her for money, and then joined the ranks of the karma crew.
Somehow the Ruby character doesn't elicit any sympathy. Perhaps the script writer didn't give the actress enough good lines or maybe the actress doesn't do a convincing job. Over and over you keep waiting for the slightest bit of likeability, but she just keeps coming across as selfish and heartless and scheming. And that's when she's not coming across as a cat in heat.
Terrific movie. Stellar cast. Great screen play. King Vidor was a master at bringing all the ingredients together - except at about 1:55:00 the sound track from a jungle, not a NC swamp! Too bad you had to delete the credits and obscure the real title. None the less, thank you.
The beautiful score in portrait of Jennie with Jennifer Jones and Joseph cotten is I must see and hear 🎼 featuring debussy's reverie.. the girl with the flaxen hair. Is hauntingly beautiful. If you love Jennifer Jones you must see portrait of Jenny ❤ 8:24 y❤😊😊❤
I agree. It's my favorite picture. Has been for years. Not only for Jennifer but for the story which is so brilliant - and yes, as you say - the beautiful, haunting music which suits the story so perfectly. I read the book too, by Robert Nathan. I must say the film vehicle was exactly the right medium to tell such a story..
This was a fun ride. This film is ripe for a remake. Not sure who should star in it, but I want Matthew McConaughey to play the brother. I can see him coming through the swamp "The wages of sin is death". PS- they did a great job of aging Ruby / Jennifer Jones .
I don't like Ruby; she is envious, crude, and vindictive, like all people who want to be someone else at all costs and when it doesn't come out right it is always somebody else's fault😅😅
To think they practically forced women to get their faces adjusted by surgery, nose jobs, jaw shaved and hairlines lasered but didn’t make this guy have a nose job 39:40 , 47:09
Why do you change the name of the movie? Is it a copyright issue? I notice some movie YT channels cut out the opening credits, I’m assuming for the same reason?
@@raylenenielsen5943 if he had dealt with the situation and not used her to begin with or after like trash, it wouldn’t have had gone the way it did. He took no responsibility for what he started and led her down the garden path.
I agree, the character just had to have his cake & eat it too, he used Ruby and Tracy, for his pump and dream, if I had boggy land I'd would considered growing cranberries instead of fighting the ocean to grow a crop which was once grown. Her brother's character was also a mental weakling who played judge and executioner.
I guess she’s stupid enough to think making him want her body will make him marry her. That’s just stupid. If a man marries you for that, he will always cheat on you.
Highly enjoyable, a clever script, amazing how subtle they exposed the female mind , before Tik Tok an app where they have the freedom to openly express their true nature. Nice men come last, they lust after the bad boy.
Sad movie. Not sure if I even liked the acting. I really liked it when she realized she loved Jim. Jones was a great actress. Guess I disliked the way she was always typecast as the man crazed, sex pot, loose woman she had too many of those roles.
I think she was great as well and think the sex pot typecast may of been due to her husband David O Selznick it did sell and still does sell. Have you watched " Portrait of Jenny" w/ Joesph Cotton, Ethel Barrymore, Lillian Gish, that was a lovely movie. The other one I like alot was " Since You Went Away" w/ Claudette Colburn, Joesph Cotton again, Shirley Temple, including Robert Walker, Jones and he played young sweethearts in the movie, and married in real life but going through a break-up, that must of been tough on him. I'd like to see " Love Letters" Jones and Joesph Cotton again.
I agree she was talented & beautiful. I've also read about her and like her not that she'd care about either of us liking her or not. None of us are saints all of us are disliked by many and liked by some.
