All of you bozo's dissing Gina and her primate knowledge: I am no primate expert, but I am a university educate professional that can recognize Gina well enough to know that she is offering professional knowledge and experience on these monkeys, and that goes a long way for me and most of the others. Gina, please continue with the commentary as I find it fascinating and insightful. Since the creator of this string of videos offers no commentary I think Gina providing a potential narrative and even answering questions makes this series worth watching. Please keep it up Gina! You critics can go to hell.
Since writing that comment above supporting Gina, I have since had an experience with her and have officially changed my mind. She is a very rude and condescending woman who thinks she is smarter than everyone. She isn't.
He is frequently sucking his thumb cause mom not letting him nurse as much as he wants to. At 03:27, he not only needs to be able to nurse but he and other infant newborn macauqes seek to look moms face in order to be familiar with how it looks but also to bond with her. This mom is not spending much time looking at the new infant as most Japanese macaque moms do. Little guy also has sores/abrasions on his feet and bottom from being dragged by mom when she is walking and he does not have a grip on her with his feet. I have also never seen a Japanese macaque mother put her baby on the ground like this within the first several day or week unless she is rejecting it or being abusive..though I do not think that is the case here. She is just not very responsive to his needs. Most of the time when a macaque mom feels her baby struggling to find a nipple and rooting around she will assist the infant to the correct position whereas this mom just sits and stares off and doesnt seem to even be aware that this infant is having trouble. I think either she is a brand new mom and has no experience or she is just very careless though I dont think she It will be abusive!
+Gina Powell WTF?...''He is frequently sucking his thumb cause mom not letting him nurse as much as he wants to." ...................................He is frequently sucking his thumb because his mother is not letting him nurse as much as he would want to..................Once again! You are a total hypocrite of what you say and ridicule! Some English you have there. By any chance are you a hick from Hick's Ville?
+GabeDalmatian And you are quite obviously seeking attention. Perhaps if you posted something pertinent to this video series others might enter into intelligent discourse with you. As it stands, you simply sound like a petulant, whiney, adolescent, so who would bother?
Poor little whiner, nothing better to do, huh?. Actually I think I was wrong about you...I'm revising my opinion about your age. You sound like a ten year old impressed with yourself for managing to spell "bitch".
i really feel bad for these moms. They are put in a habitat that is nothing like how it should be. They would be forging off and on most of the day and grooming each other to to keep the troupe bond nice and strong and you see none of this. No wonder the moms are at a lost of how to raise theirs baby's
Actually, with all due respect, these Japanese macaques at this particular zoo are really good at being moms for the most part....it is rare to see one here reject, abuse or just not take very good care of their infants...as far as grooming goes they do it all the time...the only reason it seems as if you dont see them doing it a lot here is because almost all of the videos he makes is of new moms and new moms mostly stay away from the rest of the troop including family when they have a newborn. Other species of macaques welcome family around during this time period but snow macaques are unique. After the infant gets a little older the mothers return to their regular social interests including grooming. If you will notice in these videos when an infant starts getting close to other adult macaques they usually get up.and move away..and besides for juveniles and other infants (who dont know any better) very rarely will other Japanese macaques approach mom when she has a newborn. They run because they respect mom and the new infants privacy and they also know if th baby gets near them and then something happens to it and it screams or begins to cry for mom (even if it just trips over its own feet and it causes it to cry...which is very common) then mom is likely to take her anger out on whoever is nearest the baby assuming they are the one that made it cry!! Thats also why when one begins ti get upset everyone else scatters!
This comment really makes no sense - so you believe the water in the zoo is worse than the water the monkeys are drinking from large pots in Cambodia ( really no one cleans these every day) or the puddles the Cambodian monkeys swim and drink every day.
Beautiful mother and baby; only thing is the entire environment is concrete. No lush grass; no trees; I feel bad for them.. not a natural environment for them....
Alicia Griffith It's called suckling. It gives the baby comfort without putting undue strain on Mom's breasts. We just give ours something plastic to suck on instead.
Oh she did not want to put her baby down! But when she obeyed the thu her the food.poor mama poor baby.this is the crucial time of bonding.so many useless experiments have shown this. Why more?
He is only shaking Connie because he is less than 24 hours old and does not have the muscle strength yet to stand or walk more steadily... but it won't hurt him if anything it will make him stronger quicker.....nothing she is doing is really harmful to him...she is just a little rough around the edges. You may have already seen them by now but when he does the next set of videos on this infant when he is a couple of weeks old he is doing awesome! Very independent and strong and very lively and healthy!
Connie Boles While I believe this baby is much older than one day, he just left the warmth of his mother's embrace that enfolds him with warmth. I would shiver too.
His nose has something on it maybe blood? After birth his mom did not clean? Hope he can breath ok he is going to need to. What a sorry mother he has. Thank you for sharing this.
She has fumbled him a couple of time and I thought I saw a scratch on his face earlier...he has abrasions on his feet /heels and bottom from her walking before he has a grip on her and his feet and bottom have dragged against the concrete.... I don't think she is intentionally a bad mom I think this is her first baby.
+Gina Powell -- WTF?--- "She has fumbled him a couple of time and I thought I saw a scratch on his face earlier " ............................................................................................... times ................................................................................ O.K. So you claim you speak or spell English correctly? LOL.........You must be a dumb adult. That would explain a lot. Surely you are grown, but not all there! Once again you are a total hypocrite in everything you say or ridicule. You Jane Goodall wanna be!!!
I'm Clueless You are right! I should not insult Jane Goodall. But I could not think of any other known world primate expert. Like this Gina Powell comes out like she is some kind of world primate expert and a English grammar scholar. That woman is for sure a misguided hypocrite imbecile !!!!!
I was hoping she dropped it when she was by the water, wanted to see it get dropped right on the edge of that little water way, and split its bean wide open, then ya would see blood.
Older than 1-day umbilical cord gone! Baby is adorable.
The baby is so cute.

Lightwish Light I beg to differ sir the only way Gina would be useful is if she were about 3 feet tall......
James Michaelis Bahahahaha
James Michaelis , Why so rude to Gina Powell for, I like her, she's always been nice to me and has answered many of my questions about monkey's.
Since writing that comment above supporting Gina, I have since had an experience with her and have officially changed my mind. She is a very rude and condescending woman who thinks she is smarter than everyone. She isn't.

+RACHEL HORNE you both should be ashamed of yourselves!
+GabeDalmatian what are you talking about moron?
Thanks for sharing. Love it!
at 4:24 u can briefly see what looks like blood where moms left foot was. Can anyone confirm this or knows what happened? Thanks!!
Someone is bleeding.
Heather Hart well, she just had a baby...?
Heather Hart said
.
... k
Heather Hart ok
No!! He is way to big, alert and smart! He is at least a few days old I think at the youngest!!
Такой забавный малыш, одни глаза торчат, смотрит на маму преданным взглядом, мать его из рук не выпускает...
Keeping wild animals in captivity is cruel. They deserve to be free in their natural habitat.
Please, shut the hell up! Like you know better, you brain washed pets suck ass!
Not these things

+Gina Powell Thanks Gina I see what you mean
shelley lavacca sorry to say....you are absolutely correct. All animls sould be FREE in their natural forest environment.
How about clean water for them
This comment really makes no sense - so you believe the water in the zoo is worse than the water the monkeys are drinking from large pots in Cambodia

It's so cute 😍😍
So sad they live in this filth. They should be free
Precious!
One day old and no umbilical cord attached?? No, I don't think so! Also, the baby walked too good for one day.
if u look at his right Lil hand it looks all scratched up too
The mom has a one day old baby and a red face! Also how can a 1 day old baby already want to go wondering & eat dirt?
Linda Miller definatly infant is not 1 day old ....
sgdeluxedoc j
it's sad to many new baby monks end up in human hands for pets
they 4get the cute Lil baby grows to be the mothers size..not so cute and fun then
if l was a monkey I would rather die than live with those conditions. how sad it is for them
why don't they put the whole nipple in their mouth instead of just the tip and stretching it? lol
Alicia Griffith It's called suckling. It gives the baby comfort without putting undue strain on Mom's breasts. We just give ours something plastic to suck on instead.
Oh god it makes me sick to watch babies nurse n worse seeing mom's ugly nipples. I honestly get nauseated.so I fast forward video to avoid seeing it.
This zoo should be closed down and the monkeys set free, the conditions are dreadful.
that water is nasty
Alicia Griffith the entire enclosure is nasty!
Sad ! She is hangry , searching some thing to eat .why human keeps them in jail and not giving enough food .
Oh she did not want to put her baby down! But when she obeyed the thu her the food.poor mama poor baby.this is the crucial time of bonding.so many useless experiments have shown this. Why more?
good eating !!
the poor baby is shaking so much..Will he make it with Mom being like this? I have my doubts..BUT I hope and pray I am wrong!!
