As far as optics go, that's one thing, but purpose .22lr AR uppers have gotten so ridiculously cheap and reliable it becomes an incredibly cost effective way to train within about 100 meters. That way you're saving money training, while actually getting out there and finding out what you need. Personally, I'd love a 1-8 LPVO for my GPR, and a 2-12 for my SPR. Thing is, I live in Wisconsin. Go outside of town, and the longest sight lines you'll find are either roads, or barren farm fields that go fallow within a year, where the grass ends up growing to about 5 feet in height. I don't NEED realistically, a 1-8 and even a 1-6 is pushing it. Same applies to your situation. Before you buy anything, try and figure out what exactly you need in order to maximize the benefit.
Modern Warriors is just down the street from me and I don’t know of any physical store that regularly stocks Night Vision Equipment and you can actually walk into the store and pick up anything on their walls and cases. Wide suppressor selection you can pickup and actually ask the staff questions about. Very large classroom for when they do classes ranging from CCW all the way to long range rifle courses.
Honestly I’m starting to like my SLx 1-6 more than my Razor 1-6. Is it as clear? Nope. Is it as “rugged”? Nope. Is it as bright? Not even close. Is it much lighter? Yes
Why LPVO? I'm old and refuse to wear glasses so I need the magnification to know there is a target out there beyond 100 yards. Elcan just needs to give us a 1x/8x and I'll sell a kidney for that.
I need an LPVO with a strong diopter, +-3 preferably. My eyes suck and if I can't see the reticle without my glasses then there's no point over a dot/magnifier.
I love the durability and clarity of an ACOG but the crappy eye relief, (specifically, the 4X models) along with the reality that it looks like you're looking through a straw are measurable downsides. In spite of that, there probably isn't a better combat optic in existence (with the possible exception of the ELCAN) and one that'll remain in one piece long after you've thrown the worst of what the world has to offer at it.
I love buying a lpvo, selling it for a red dot and mag, sell that, get an lpvo again, and then finally get another red dot and mag to ultimately sell again
Folks who want to see how hard and far an AR15 with a LPVO can be pushed should watch some DMR or Quantified Performance videos or matches. You might be surprised. And you'll also see what some people are using.
take it with a grain of salt. They know their craft, but some of those setups are very min-maxed for a QP match. And not all that great of real world setups.
I went back to the exps3 and g33 because I realized that LVPOs were really more capability than I personally need and I like having the NV performance better than having to use a piggy back RMR
last gen primary arms, the one with just the chevron and nothing else, like $150 WITH a mount? now that's value, the costco hotdog of LPVOs, love this thing
I just got a Monstrum panzer 1-10x.ffp . I leave it and 1.5x or 2x and it's and ok scope. Ffp the dots small. But it has long etched lines in 1x that I use for QCC
Ive got the PA SLx 1-8 FFP its decent enough if 100% true 1x isnt a deal breaker and bonus it doesnt weigh 24ozs either I need to upgrade to the PLxC but HMT won the coin toss Good video Now back to dumping on LPVOs until theyre popular again
My favorite setup is my primary arms 1-8 Plx-C with a piggyback red dot. My red dot is really the primary optic, as I use it the most. But I can take shots to 400 m with ease. Extremely versatile and comfortable setup.
What's wrong with 1.5x base magnification LPVO's? Most LPVO's feel like 1.1x-1.5x anyway. And 1.5x literally doesn't not slow me down AT ALL. Split times confirm this. So if I can get clearer and better magnification with a 1.5x-9x, I feel like I would probably prefer that? I dunno I guess I just need to go try some scopes with powers like 1.5-8x/9x or 2x-10x or whatever
What about a good 2-6×24 adding a 1x as a canted reticle or on the top of the scope? I'm sure somebody already asked, but...? Also, if using a 1x and, say, a 3x magnifier, what's wrong with a good 1x4 scope, say the Crossfire or something similar, but use a canted 1x with it? Just making you use your grey matter...✌🏼
Trijicon needs to make a VCOG 1-4 with a Brassfacts/Hop/ Cdoes/Delta34 reticle tritium and a rechargeable battery power forward mounted RCR…… under 20oz…. This will never happen because Trijicon will never innovate
Just wanted to say I checked out Modern Warriors while running an errand out in St George and they really are a great gun store. Prices are pretty fair for an LGS and aren't gouged/scalped like in many places. Different mounts and suppressors to try out was pretty neat. Being able to molest a SCAR 6.5CM, H&K USC, and a Q Fix at their store let me reaffirm how much I hated those things. Super cool staff too. My only gripe is that the storefront is more flash than stock, most of their items on display are the flashy fancy nitride color guns or that weird skew of P365.
I got my first LPVO a couple months ago. I went budget to test the waters before really investing into something nice. This economy really really sucks for me lol. I got a Monstrum Banshee SFP 1-6x with the BDC reticle for my 16" 5.56. It was 130 bucks on amazon and after doing extensive research on youtube for it and shooting it a few times I can say its quite nice and is no where near garbage. The glass is surprisingly very clear at 6x but it isn't quite daylight bright. The red seems to do better in the daylight than the green which I thought was odd since green is usually brighter. The 1x is pretty solid but I don't have much expereince with high quality LPVOs to compare to but its definitely not a 1.5x. I haven't testied the effectiveness of the BDC but I know the BDC is set up for a 16" 5.56 so thats why I got it. I'm looking to upgrade to maybe a primary arms GLX 1-10x FFP someday.
Oh also, sorry this might sound weird, but if you are ever interested in getting access to some really high altitude larping space up in Wanship, Utah (up above park city), feel free to let me know or message me or whatever. You'd have to run suppressors in most of the spaces that I'm talking about, since the few people who live up there are a lil touchy about 5.56 in some parts of the canyon, because of the reverberation, but you already do that anyway so who cares haha
I recommend buying a Vector optics($100) S-6 1-6,fiber. Just too see if you like an LPVO on your gun at all.then find a good one you like. That way you don’t buy an expensive one and find out you don’t like the style of optic.
Based I don't know why all guntubers turn down budget optics. Lower end optics are made in China anyway. Vector optics make 100ish$ lpvo or Red dot magn combo Or 50sh$ red dots. As long as its holds zero its viable.
Buy a aliexpress LPVO that some randoms said IT holds zero. You will loose 100$ but learn what you want from LPVO. Because the second we buy stupid shit is the second we know what we really want. Then you buy a decent one and put this chinesium on your 22 or sell it to some airsofter.
After getting my Razor HD 1-6, I opted for a RD plus magnifier. Being able to ditch the magnifier and save weight just made more sense to me, given my circumstances.
Also, is there actually a 1:1 relationship between exit pupil and 'eye box'? I have had experience with scopes where this is not necessarily that clear cut.
It'd be hilarious if you just started adding in a random "ass fact" into every video as a complete nonsequitur and then just not ever mentioning it otherwise.
Picked up a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 FFP for less than 500 a while back. I cannot find a better FFP LPVO for that price. Glass quality is better than the SFP Strike Eagles as well as quarter MOA adjustments on turrets. I have seen it for as low as 400. Its not a Nightforce obviously but like I said, name a better illuminated FFP LPVO in the 400-600 range. The only ones that Ive seen that are better, were not illuminated.
@@breckfreeride i noticed that by setting it to about 1.3x instead of the 1x, it helps in close quarters when used as a red dot with both eyes open. Usually the cheaper scopes dont have that super clear 1x without edge disruption but like I said, setting it to 1.3x helped alot.
Any info you’d recommend to someone without any real experience in distance shooting? I don’t live near any ranges which go beyond 100 yards, but I often hear people talk about Mils vs BDC vs MOA and shit and don’t really have any idea what they’re talking about. Aren’t these just different units of angular measurement? MOA is just minute of angle, a 60th of a degree
BDC is usually calibrated to a specific caliber, such as 5.56. It’s set such if you zero at 100yd, the drop points line up with 200, 300 etc Mil is similar to moa but another conversion I’m not familiar with
The difference between MOA & Mrad is MOA goes in inches & Mrad goes in metric. I go with MOA cuz I'm an American with no military experience, so it's yards instead of meters for me & MOA is easier to dial my dope on paper. BDC is kinda gimmicky, it's predialed by the company that made it specific to the barrel length & ammo weight(caliber specific as mentioned above) they used initially, ymmv.

Went from a 10.5 rd set up to a 14.5 with a viper 1-6 and It’s exactly what I wanted but the weight being the only real downside I see.
Watching his LPVO reviews to justify the PLxC I just bought 🤣
😂👍!!!
I think the takeaway is lpvo's are mid
God damn I hate making these kind of choices
Honestly I’m starting to like my SLx 1-6 more than my Razor 1-6. Is it as clear? Nope. Is it as “rugged”? Nope. Is it as bright? Not even close. Is it much lighter? Yes
K16I and the soon PLXC nova should be on your radar.
Great video with tons of good insight. Really just commenting for the algorithm
Great vid as usual but I like the way you explain it. BTW what was that camo netting you were wearing? Was it a shroud or multiple pieces?
LPVO buyers guide: Get a 4x ACOG / RMR setup. Dun.
ohh pleaseeee
I love the durability and clarity of an ACOG but the crappy eye relief, (specifically, the 4X models) along with the reality that it looks like you're looking through a straw are measurable downsides. In spite of that, there probably isn't a better combat optic in existence (with the possible exception of the ELCAN) and one that'll remain in one piece long after you've thrown the worst of what the world has to offer at it.
I love buying a lpvo, selling it for a red dot and mag, sell that, get an lpvo again, and then finally get another red dot and mag to ultimately sell again
Thanks for the Primer on the LPVO scopes. It will make more sense when we get to see your recommendations for each of the categories.
Are you or someone you know suffering from thick bezel syndrome?
yes, me. I have a elcan.
Guys its ok to like the popular option some times you dont always have to go against the grain just to feel special like hop and brock. 😂
Ass frags back at it again with a fantastic video that I learned a lot and am somehow more confused. Thanks.
The "ask your wife" thrown in there so sneakily was devious
6:25 critter detected, epic win
Can we take him home?!?
Vortex Viper 1x6 SFP. Still the best. Red dot bright and very clear glass.
I'll take a p4xi over a viper any day of the week. It's a shame Steiner decided to turn into crooks...
I'm so impressed with my Viper 1-6
Except that it is a lead pig at 23 ounces.
If loving my Arken Ep8 is wrong then I don’t want to be right.
I’m just now looking to get into the LPVO game with a strict budget so this is a great time for this to be uploaded.
I just got a Monstrum panzer 1-10x.ffp . I leave it and 1.5x or 2x and it's and ok scope. Ffp the dots small. But it has long etched lines in 1x that I use for QCC
Ive got the PA SLx 1-8 FFP its decent enough if 100% true 1x isnt a deal breaker and bonus it doesnt weigh 24ozs either
I need to upgrade to the PLxC but HMT won the coin toss
Good video
Now back to dumping on LPVOs until theyre popular again
The c does shoutout. I love it.
One of my favorite LPVOs is the strike eagle 1-4 vortex. You can find them from time to time for $120. Super clear image. Sharp. Lightweight.
I bought a razor gen 2 for my first lpvo. Goddam I love it. Fits perfect on my scar
My favorite setup is my primary arms 1-8 Plx-C with a piggyback red dot. My red dot is really the primary optic, as I use it the most. But I can take shots to 400 m with ease. Extremely versatile and comfortable setup.
What mount are you using for that setup?
Trijicon needs to make a VCOG 1-4 with a Brassfacts/Hop/ Cdoes/Delta34 reticle tritium and a rechargeable battery power
forward mounted RCR……
under 20oz….
Have you looked at the Z8i+ 0.75-6x20 (Swarovski). I wonder about the .75. Does that reduce the compromises at 1x?
What round is it for? M193?
Based
I don't know why all guntubers turn down budget optics. Lower end optics are made in China anyway.
Vector optics make 100ish$ lpvo or Red dot magn combo
Or 50sh$ red dots.
LPVO? I’m using a 3x MicroPrism on a carry handle with the irons.
Debuffed Scopepilled RUclipsr gets off on Glass: The Movie
Also, is there actually a 1:1 relationship between exit pupil and 'eye box'? I have had experience with scopes where this is not necessarily that clear cut.
Just ordered Burris RT-6 thru my work. It's got a great feature set
In your experience, how important do you consider eye relief and field of view in choosing an LPVO?
I just bought a lpvo yesterday and this video could have helped 😢
Me too. What did you end up going with? I got the slx nova in FDE but primary arms won’t start shipping them till July
I like my Strike Eagle.
The ffp 1x8 strike beagle is pretty nice.
my birthday is soon and I’m wondering if you could buy me a primary arms 3x micro prism please 🎉🎉🎉
It'd be hilarious if you just started adding in a random "ass fact" into every video as a complete nonsequitur and then just not ever mentioning it otherwise.
Kinda just making me wish the 5x Prism category was way, way better than it currently is
Kinda wish that Trijicon didn't hold the monopoly on 4x, seems to be the sweet spot, but only the smaller lesser known companies dare to go there.
"Focus you f..." 😜 good ol AVE
Picked up a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 FFP for less than 500 a while back. I cannot find a better FFP LPVO for that price. Glass quality is better than the SFP Strike Eagles as well as quarter MOA adjustments on turrets. I have seen it for as low as 400. Its not a Nightforce obviously but like I said, name a better illuminated FFP LPVO in the 400-600 range. The only ones that Ive seen that are better, were not illuminated.
Love mine
@@breckfreeride i noticed that by setting it to about 1.3x instead of the 1x, it helps in close quarters when used as a red dot with both eyes open. Usually the cheaper scopes dont have that super clear 1x without edge disruption but like I said, setting it to 1.3x helped alot.
Good dog, Nova
I love that you are paying homage to Ave…. Focus you fuck 😊
Until they start making 45mm tubes with glass to match stick with 1-6

Any info you’d recommend to someone without any real experience in distance shooting? I don’t live near any ranges which go beyond 100 yards, but I often hear people talk about Mils vs BDC vs MOA and shit and don’t really have any idea what they’re talking about. Aren’t these just different units of angular measurement? MOA is just minute of angle, a 60th of a degree
BDC is usually calibrated to a specific caliber, such as 5.56. It’s set such if you zero at 100yd, the drop points line up with 200, 300 etc
Mil is similar to moa but another conversion I’m not familiar with
The difference between MOA & Mrad is MOA goes in inches & Mrad goes in metric.
So plx-c still
I am watching this even though i already own 2 lpvos that i like
