Maybe none of the comments in the other video covered it, but I think a big part of the reason this series was so successful is that it was uploaded quickly and back to back. With series like the GTR vs Supra, it could be weeks or months before you see an update. I get that supply issues and parts are hard to come by and builds will always have hiccups, but when you take long breaks people will forget about it or lose interest. You guys had these cars and had most of the parts already bought because you knew you had a $15k limit. Big build series usually seem to have a buy as you go, and in this current climate you can't "overnight parts from Japan" like you could pre covid. Congrats on the popular build series, I hope you guys have learned some things from doing this, and can apply it to future builds.

I agree, but at the same time people who follow on other social media want to see the video as soon as it’s ready so they can take part in the process. It’s great to see comments from the previous video mentioned and addressed in the next one. Some other channels record everything, edit it, then release it all well after the project is complete. They lose out on the expert advise (and heckling) between episodes.

This is honestly my favorite channel to watch, and it’s saddens me to see how much hate you guys get because you really don’t deserve it. I’ve enjoyed your channel for years at this point and I think this video is a great addition to wrap up a build series. It address some questions that may have not been clear in the videos plus gives you guys the opportunity to push back on some of the more questionable comments. And I like that- makes your channel feel even more “real”. Keep it up guys

I second this - love the channel, love the clarity and push back on questionable comments. Keep doing what you guys do - love the content. Now that the vtec budget challenge is done, I'd love to see the k20 ek all the way NA built to be a real track monster and challenge Ben's k24 ek from gears and gasoline.

    • @abcarlson3293
      @abcarlson3293 2 года назад +3

That's a real challenge...Ben built the hell out of that car over a couple years with a ton of r&d and track testing and help from masters of the craft. Not trying to discredit or say it cant be done. Just that it would be difficult and very expensive to challenge Ben's EK.

Nobody on RUclips does build battles like these guys. Super clean builds, detail info and I love the banter between them. Most RUclipsrs do vlog style installs while these guys keep it so simple but yet so enjoyable and relatable to watch.

And at the end, their cars work and complete laps, what a novel idea? When you’re done with the entertainment channels it’s great to come here and take notes on quality parts suppliers and best practices….and if they screw something up, they own up to it in the next episode.

I'm about half way through - here's my take: 90% of comments are positive "good job!" type comments that are nice but really add nothing to the conversation. 5% are haters, and 5% are constructive feedback. The constructive feedback is where the real conversation happens. Don't confuse the feedback with the hater comments even if it seems like a criticism - people are trying to engage with your content. In terms of responding to comments in videos, ignore the hater comments, it just makes it seem like they got in your head. Feedback comments are great to respond to because it can help educate us on why you made xyz decisions. I think my personal choice would be respond to comments in the comments section, the videos responding to comments seem unnecessary and makes it seem like you are defending yourself from haters which is what they want. Anyways, loved this series, keep it up!

    • @all-flat-engines

The vast majority of “constructive feedback” seem to be forum warriors who’ve probably never held a wrench, but are fine to regurgitate what they’ve read somewhere (right or wrong). However I agree with you, I wouldn’t make a video to respond to any of them.

@@heyhayhay247 I got as far as posting my builds on Facebook and that made me not want to post on RUclips. According to the internet my car will fall apart and burn on the entrance to turn 1 because I spent only $400 on a helmet and not $2000. Even though all safety parts pass the exact same safety standard and the more expensive are just lighter/more comfortable/more stylish.

I enjoyed this video and really liked the budget aspect of this build series (reminiscent of the BA S2k series.) As for comments, It was interesting to hear your take and how ridiculous some of the keyboard warrior comments were. I would suggest not over thinking about the comments. You guys are putting out extremely good & educational content. The people that actually track cars know, the key board warriors are gonna warrior, and the casual fans are going to learn something if they keep watching(maybe even go to the track.) Cheers!

This series has been fantastic and a absolute joy to watch! Even motivated me to get back to fixing my RX8. I do like this "Series Review" style video. Not only is it funny as hell seeing PT and DP roast comments who don't know what they're talking about but the extra info on some cars like the Type R having a reinforced subframe from factory or recommendations from the comments (like holding the brake pedal down while replacing a length of brake line) is great to know.
This is exactly the style of builds I was dreamed of doing when I was 8-10 reading tuner magazines in early/mid 2000s. Keep doing the amazing work you two!!! I can't wait to see the next episode

In general, a heavier oil will provide a stiffer oil film thickness, which means that higher loads would be required for the oil film to collapse. There can be situations where a thicker oil can cause issues but it's more of an edge case usually where the design has a weakness. Honda generally biases towards thinner oils to improve fuel efficiency which is why they recommend that oil. They'll select the oil before they design the box effectively, and the box will go through validation testing with that oil. I imagine the validation test cycle didn't include too much endurance racing which is why they pop.

I don’t comment often but wanted to let you all know that you are a joy to watch. You build real cars that you actually go and use on the track. You are authentic, knowledgeable, and very relatable. I’m disappointed about some of the negative comments, but I think this format of a series wrap-up is a great way to address both positive and negative feedback with honesty. I like this quite a bit. Y’all do a really good job of explaining your reasoning for why you do things a certain way, whether viewers agree or disagree is up to them. For those of us that watch nearly every if not every episode you kick out, while this type of video isn’t necessary per say, it does give a little behind the scenes idea of a lot of the series. It also helps us get to know you better. I vote, more of these post-series videos

Truly brings joy to my heart when you all release a new video. I've been watching for years and to this day you are by far my #1 channel. I watch and re-watch all of your series regularly (can I just say thank you for making playlists of all your builds!) Love the quick builds but really love the longer more in-depth builds like the Lexus vs. BMW Wagon build off or even the ASS/BADASS S2000 build. I would agree that builds that are more relatable/obtainable tend to be more enjoyable. Either way I'll be here consuming and loving your content!
Final note, as a father/husband I truly live vicariously through you both and thank you for bringing such joy and entertainment to us all. I know it's easier said than done, but don't let the negativity effect you and just keep doing what you love. Thank you very much for all you two do!

Loved, LOVED the series. It’s nice seeing some legacy Hondas be built to a high grade. Bought my 94 civic hatch when I was 15, still have it 15 years later. Side note to make someone giggle, it’s a sub $2,000 build. $250 for the rolling chassis, got the GS-R for $1000 (it was in a 98 civic that parted out), $500 Tein coilovers, $200 buddy club camber kit, $100 2.5” offbrand catback, $150 PLM long tube tri-Y header, $90 aluminum rad, $100 carbon hood, $200 carbon spoon style spoiler, $200 carbon hatch. $160 for a set of 16x7 wheels that has since been sold off now that I’m going 17x9s. Free ex front knuckle upgrade (from the 98 civic), free rear disc brake conversion from a DA I bought and parted out. And there’s a few other small ends i haven’t mentioned. I bought the 98 civic for $1,000, got $2,000 out of it. Got the DA for $500, got $2,500 out of it.

In regards to cost: I've always appreciated thsi channel for showing the true cost and work involved in modifying and tuning cars. Many other channels gloss over that, and you still often suggesting "just LS swapping" vehicles because a junkyard LS is $1000. Folks have a hard time grasping that simply making an already track prepped Civic chassis a running driving tunable track car does not take just a few thousand bucks and a weekend. Lots of us still appreciate you guys for what you're trying to do.

Such a great video. There is so much wisdom from older guys from the scene… I love how you highlight how much misinformation is out there and how you had to learn from your mistakes in your past. Learn from others mistakes. Great video, just waiting for more videos on the Jdm legends!!! Go team Supra!!!

This was a fun wrap to the series and I’m glad you made it. You made a good point about how people don’t always leave a positive comment, but people will more likely leave a negative one. It’s sad that that is the case, but hopefully you guys know people love your channel and content because you’ve gotta a pretty big following. Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next build and hopefully that EVO comes back one day.

Too many nay sayers on the RUclipss. At the end of the day they're you're cars, you get to do what you like to them at whatever budget works for you! No viewer is entitled to anything, that's the beauty of being able to watch the ridiculous amount of content RUclips has, for free. I really enjoyed the series and learnt a lot about Honda's, of which I previously knew nothing. Keep up the awesome work. You're both always so thorough and explain things so well. Love it.

A lot of people’s roots in car culture started from owning a Honda and I think that’s why this series was a hit! 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Fun video and cracked me up when you could feel the real frustration leaking out but you guys did a great job reeling it back in. Great channel with great content, keep it up gents.

Living the RUclips life mustn't be easy for you guys. Over the years there's always been a small but steady stream of those triggering-type comments. It seems like just under the surface they are eating at you (a bit more so it seems for PT). It's understandable, but if you read this comment I hope you feel encouraged that a vast majority of folks like me regularly watch your videos and love the hard work you're put into each piece of your content. You guys are masters of your trade. It's would be easy to let the few negative comments drown out the overwhelmingly positive. Choose the high-road, choose to be classy, and focus on what you do best. You guys are awesome, passionate, and relatable! Keep up the great work and with it will come continued growth and success!

I'm avid follower of your channel. This episode was great as to show to your audience that you actually reads the comments and take the valid advice serious also. Great job, keep up the great work. Just remember, to appreciate the good you have to have some bad comments. 🤘👍

This was a great and fun series. I love the track battle at the end, especially being somewhat local to TMP. This Honda one was fun because it is somewhat attainable, but that doesn't mean builds like the Supra/GTR aren't good. Variety makes the channel interesting, and contributes to learning outside of one specific brand/market.
Finding an ITR was cool, but I looked at this as an Integra, it didn't matter to me as much whether it was an ITR, GSR, or an LS. The "competition" isn't serious, it's just a fun thing to do for the series. People seem to get too caught up in technicalities and what's "fair" or not.
Keep on doing everything you're doing, been subscribed for years. I hope to make it out to your track day/meet in a few weeks.

I love all your guys content! I actually get excited when RUclips notifies me that you uploaded a new video. This series was awesome brought back memories of my late teens and early twenties. I was mainly tinkering with DSM's back then, but I've had my fair share of Hondas as well! The people complaining about the build cost are out of touch with the reality of building a car. 15k is actually a pretty impressive number. If you paid a shop to do what you guys did it would cost thousands more! Heck I dropped my Evo off for a performance alignment a couple weeks ago and a quick $240 alignment turned into $700 in just a couple hours due to a couple minor issues they found. Your 15k budget was appropriate and quite a good challenge to try to stay under. Keep up the awesome content. Would love to see some more 4g63 content, but I may be a little biased 🤣.

Really enjoyed this series. The quicker pace of the builds was a nice benefit but I've been watching you guys from the unconditioned "chicken coup" days so doesn't matter to me.
Appreciate the explanations on some of the technical concerns by other commenters. I too wondered about the Hondata IM gasket, only because KPower Industries advises to only run the factory metal gaskets due to vibrations possibly snapping mounting bolts (long-time Miata owner here, limited Honda experience).

I enjoy this type of content because it mimics what a lot of the amateur community would build in their home garage. I feel it helps a lot to see and learn from your experience and on occasion the comments can reflect constructive criticism, but there are those that lack a positive tone and it must be challenging to let certain things slide as content creators. Concluding a build series with this type of “round table” content is a nice change, and I look forward to more in the future. Great work fellas!

Thanks for making the video. I wasn't trying to sound harsh about my suggestion of sand blasting the valve cover. You guys create great content! If chemical stripping works well for you, go for it! I've just seen many YT car influencers use a blast tank and have good results. But, media has also blown up motors before due to improper cleaning post sand blasting. So, to your point, I agree and understand!

This was a smart and fun video. It is the closest way to get a little more personal with you guys. I think that is the difference between SA and other channels that we all love. Some other channels do the vlog to make things a little more personal. You guys don't need to Vlog, but this was cool to see the behind-the-scenes.
The Honda series was fun just like the JDM series. We are all watching for different reasons, but the biggest reason I think we are all watching is to LEARN. Whether it is to learn about different suppliers of awesome parts, to weird Supra issues, to cool components combos that we could not afford to test ourselves.
Have you ever thought of telling us more stand-out stories of your experiences??? You guys may have heard or seen cool or scary things happen that we might find entertaining.
