Do y'all have a "different type of 9B" 30 miles north of Tampa than we have here in Altamonte Springs? What I mean to say is, it seems that your area gets colder, some how. I know that Tampa Bay got COLD (not freezing but, damn!) during the 10 years I lived there 1985-1995. In Altamonte, Winter 2020, we had three one-hour each, below 34, on the border of freezing. Hi there. I have 3 jackfruit plants from seed, 4 months old and healthy. I live in UK and have a green house. Will mine fruit? Did yours fruit and was it tasty? Great video and dying to know if that flower produced a fruit for you! You are so lucky.

@@lazyh-online4839 nope. Coz we have a jackfruit tree in our garden and the tree took that long time to grow. Also you asked for update from the previous comment, so I said be patient.. So it little related.
@@aliendude4064 the original post was about planting seeds, we don't know if they sprouted, how much they grew, or if they survived or how many so being curious isn't unreasonable in such a short period, hence why the fruiting time is irrelevant. You may have less than ideal conditions or, since jackfruit is open pollinated, each tree can take slightly different times to grow depending on the specific genetics of the seedling. Jackfruit can fruit at 2-3 years under ideal conditions which is what we did with ours (controlled environment grow room, also working on mangos and two varieties of pineapples), unfortunately nature is typically far from ideal which is probably why it took longer for yours in your yard. I honestly wish you best of luck growing yours and hope it produces lots of delicious fruit for you.
I bought a jackfruit from Publix and got the seeds to sprout. I heard farmers deactivate the seeds for some produce does that mean mine wont ever bear fruit?
Welcome to the channel! In Sarasota this can be grown in full sun. They are beautiful trees and even look good in the front yard. Definitely well drained soil.

I hope you see this but I’ve been growing jackfruit from seed for about 3-4 months and they are around a foot tall but recently some of the leaves have curled under and some are even brown what can I do?
I’ve got two 3 year old jackfruits one unpruned, close to 20 foot high, the other has been pruned to about 10 ft. Pruned maybe ten times now and it is holding 2 fruits, already had one small sized fruit about 10 inches then it fell off.
Is it possible to grow a jackfruit in a pot? Im in zone 6a and have to bring my Citrus trees inside this winter already but is this even an option for a fruiting sized jackfruit to bring indoors? Are they a deciduous tree?
Albert Einsteinian I didn't think it was possible until recently, because they have such a tap root. We recently filmed at Excalibar nursery and they had many fruiting in pots. Yes they are evergreen, it could be a Christmas tree 🎄
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL How about for those of us that just need one or two bags at this point? I checked Lowes and Home Depot and they don't seem to carry a 4-6-4 fertilizer in large sizes.
Can you tell me if their roots are spread out. I have one growing near the side of the house aprox 7ft from the wall just didnt want issues with the foundation.
I come from Australia as well (near Newcastle) & I have 3 of them growing as seedlings near the beginning of winter,I had 4 growing but 1 died either of getting wet roots or the roots outgrew the container I had it in ,therefore couldn't reach down & out any deeper to get water. I transplanted them into 250 mm pots after finding they outgrew the yoghurt pots that I've had them planted in,in the near future, I'll have somewhere to plant them in the ground hopefully, I have also ordered another seed to replace the plant which has died. Depending upon who you talk to,I live in a 11a climate zone as it almost never gets below 4 degrees celsius in the winter time now,go further inland & it's more like 10a or 10b, in Sydney for example, someone said it was too cold in winter time to grow jackfruit trees, apparently, they say if the temperature falls below 0 degrees celsius, mulching the tree can insulate the roots on a mature tree from getting frostbite. It's been a lot of years since the winter temperature has been around the 0 degree celsius mark,we've been having warmer winters & scorching hot summers in our area so the tropical plants have been starting to grow better for me,the climate zone is Cfa (humid subtropical) as it is near the Queensland border near where my father came from & his dad grew bananas, however, the annual rainfall there is greater where I am so down our way we need to water the plants more. I think our climate has changed from what it was 20 years ago because about 2 weeks before winter, the deciduous trees are just starting to shed their leaves so I think more tropical sorts of plants can be grown now,so we are still coming into Autumn. In April for example, the days were still like 32 degrees celsius which is very unusual to what the climate & weather was like 2 decades ago, that means that we have had a longer summer than what was once usual.
Hi, I am very interested to know if 5 years on you got any jackfruit you have eaten? I am in Sydney and have a baby tree that survived its first winter. Hopefully, it survives the coming winter! Please reply. TY.
It was just some seed from a quality jackfruit from the market. I prefer them crunchy and low latex. The tree was covered in flowers until last week when we had a serious frost. I think that’ll set it back a little bit but we should have fruit again this summer.

Congratulations Pete! Hopefully the male and female flowers will set well and not fall off, that is so COOL! Ya know the first State to welcome Jackfruit(Yaca here) in Mexico was tropical, coastal Nayarit, then next door in Sinaloa Jackfruit was established, but since the clime up here on the central plateau gets a bit chilly during winter and the distance(curvy, narrow roads from the coast to over here), we've finally been able to taste the "juicy fruit" Jackfruit. Hopefully since our clime is categorized as 'subtropical' once the baby seedling grows bigger, it can thrive as do mango, banana, avocado and papaya plants with no harm from the winter chill. :)
Hey Pete, Thanks for the enthusiasm you're creating in us. I have plant in a pot about 2 feet tall and more than a year old. Could you please advise on how to prepare planting in ground and fertilizer you used. Thanks in advance
That's beautiful, and really fast to fruit from seed! I love jackfruit. In Brazil we have two types: 'hard' and 'soft' -I imagine additional varietals that I'm still unaware of exist in Asia. Out of curiosity, have you grown durian in Florida, and got fruit? (I realise that they're not as closely related to jackfruit as might appear, but they do both require warmth and humidity.)
Great news! So glad to know seed to fruit is a successful proposition.... I have a Chico Sapote seedling I am counting on! Peter next time you prune your mangos please do a video. I have several mangos in limited space and need to keep them small... Your know how would be awesome
PLEASE can YOU possibly tell me, CAN you root a Banana tree from a Banana flower? Ive ALWAYS been curious, and since I noticed that Banana tree behind you, I was wondering. I'm dying to grow a Banana tree for food and garden compost.
I find it curious that you built a greenhouse in florida? Im just a tad bit south of you from tampa in zone 10 by the coast and a greenhouse seems very silly in our tropical climate
You must be inland then I assume. For me to only be about a hour or two drive south of you and I thought tropicals do great here, Ive started several, getting a jackfruit this weekend.
Not a waste at all. He's not on the equator, so clearly the climate is too temperate for some plants. Also great for delicate winter starts, even where you are.

TY.
Thank you so so much for getting back I appreciate it and I’m sure I’m going to try
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Can you please tel us what is te type of seeds you planted because there are may types of jack fruits they say and how is your plant doing today?
It was just some seed from a quality jackfruit from the market. I prefer them crunchy and low latex. The tree was covered in flowers until last week when we had a serious frost. I think that’ll set it back a little bit but we should have fruit again this summer.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL you mean you had fruit last summer. Because they say the tree needs 4 years from planting the seed to get fruits?
Waterlily pond I’ve seen them fruit as quickly as 2.5 years from seed. Just depends on location, soil climate etc.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL thank you very much.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL how are you bro..,greetings from Uganda. Hey as of now I berive my country is most favoured with this fruit.. In terms of quality and high production. I would request a brief coversation with you at kàngentonio@gail.com this will be fruitful.
Gosh Pete please send me some suggestions of select fruit & flowering trees your nursery has that i can grow here in the tropical island of Barbados West Indies. I will find out the necessary documents we will need to ship obviously when Covid 19 issues settles.
I just learnt about the Pulasan it looks delicious
Get'r fixed! Glad you're fixing it up. I know that tore you up. Great learning experience though man. Its a journey! Great work on the new found channel and passion for it. I'm really enjoying and obviously I'm not alone :) ya'll are killing it!
Ethan Blevins that it was, thanks bro! 👊
Hi, I have I year old jackfruit from seeds but couple of leaves have curl up.please advise thanks..
Filipina Desert Gardener hello! Did you get cold ? That’s only think that seems to affect mine.
I brought them inside my house before our first frost. Thank you for replying
i threw some jackfruit seeds in my yard only one survied the thing it`s only like five months old it grew some type of peas like 5 any advice
Congrats.Sir what is the name of this variety?
This variety is called seedling
Hey Pete, Thanks for the enthusiasm you're creating in us. I have plant in a pot about 2 feet tall and more than a year old. Could you please advise on how to prepare planting in ground and fertilizer you used. Thanks in advance
Greetings.. I'm growing jackfruit frm seeds myself for fun...how long does it usually take before it fruit? Great information and thanks for sharing
I’ve heard 2 yrs is the fastest, 3-4 is probably more common.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL thanks for the information..check out my channel..and like, subscribe, share
when your excited I get excited.. Awesome. Thats whats growin on.
Mad Dog Minor I'm always excited! lol my wife tells me I'm a little hyper.
What plastic to use on a greenhouse?
That's beautiful, and really fast to fruit from seed!
I love jackfruit. In Brazil we have two types: 'hard' and 'soft' -I imagine additional varietals that I'm still unaware of exist in Asia.
Out of curiosity, have you grown durian in Florida, and got fruit? (I realise that they're not as closely related to jackfruit as might appear, but they do both require warmth and humidity.)
Unfortunately no one had been successful with Durian in Florida. I’m told it’s a soil condition.
Is my relif to know this because i hear some people say jackfruit produse fruits after 15 year. So far.
Great news! So glad to know seed to fruit is a successful proposition.... I have a Chico Sapote seedling I am counting on!
Peter next time you prune your mangos please do a video. I have several mangos in limited space and need to keep them small... Your know how would be awesome
Thank you! I'll be doing a mango pruning video this Spring.
Curious to know what growing zone are you in?
9B
PLEASE can YOU possibly tell me, CAN you root a Banana tree from a Banana flower? Ive ALWAYS been curious, and since I noticed that Banana tree behind you, I was wondering. I'm dying to grow a Banana tree for food and garden compost.
I’ve never seen that one successful...
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL YES! THANKS, someone actually responded! 😃. Thanks for the info.
How did you do did in Just 18 months?
I’ve got one in the ground in FL going on 3 years now, and it’s half the size!
They do best planted from seed.
Eu amo Jaca!! Estou tentando cultivar uma aqui em Idaho.
I've seen you talk about the jack frost jackfruit you have outside, where can I get one?
I find it curious that you built a greenhouse in florida? Im just a tad bit south of you from tampa in zone 10 by the coast and a greenhouse seems very silly in our tropical climate
Joseph NMN it’s was freebie, only to push tropical trees this far north.
I just order a plant hope it grows well
Could I grow mango and jack fruit in Sacramento , California !!!!???? Palm trees make it through the winter , here !!!!
Hey Ken! Maybe in a well protected area/microclimate. Jackfruit and mango trees don’t like frost.
Mine did the same thing, all of the flowers molded and fell off except for one that is fattening up now.
How many years required to give fruit...this seedlings
The title says from seed... yup it’s a seedling!
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL can you make updated video now
Wow!!!
Great job
Hey sir, any updates on that jackfruit??
Awesome! That’s some epic growth!!
vegasOasis thanks! I'm super excited.
What variety is it? I planted some grafted jackfruit about a year ago here in Broward . They have taken off, but no flowers yet. Orange Crush, Cantaloupe and Excalibur Red. Your greenhouse looks amazing! I want to do one here!
Great video!!!! Keep it up.
Where did you buy it? Or the seeds?
I got the seeds from a friend that grows this fruit on Pine Island.
Will it grow in cool country
I also have 5-6 yrs old jackfruit tree but there flower n fruits always fall down .. is any precaution to stop.. kindly suggest
It willbe a few more years before you get fruit
Jackfruit tree needs more nutrition like cowdung, vegetable and fruit peels and waste tea leafs and do mulching of soil.
Have you known jackfruit to be able to grow well and survive in central Florida I'm trying to pick a planting zone I want to live in and be able to grow this fruit in particular I'm gonna be moving to Florida in the near future so I can make my dream of a awesome food forest come true
I would say if you wanted to grow reliably you need to be further south and by the coast.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL alright thanks for the info very much I can plan better now
Awesome!
Good job sir ji👍👌👌👌👌👌
Wow! Awesome!
My already 9 years still not flowering yet.
how tall is it?
I had a beautiful jack fruit in a pot growing beautifully here in central Florida, until I planted in the soil in my backyard and last winter it died frozen...I almost cried.
I’m sorry to hear! All my jackfruit also got knocked back last winter. It was a brutal winter!
Great! How did you prepare the soil? Would love to know!
Just old mulch and rock dusts. We have a tree planting video for mangoes that applies to almost everything we plant.
I can handle anything you can throw at me. Your channel is awesome.
Fish Grow Greens ok you better hold tight! 2018 is going to be CRAZY🤙
Hi there Pete! Where are you located? All your trees look great..
Branda SAR hello! I’m located just north of Tampa in Pasco County.
Awesome!!!
