Originally telecast the day after Thanksgiving, on November 25, 1960. It was Murrow's last documentary for CBS News. The program's sponsor, Philip Morris, actually sent representatives to some of those migrant farms to APOLOGIZE for sustaining the documentary. In January 1961, Murrow left the network to become head of the U.S. Information Agency.

Outstanding historical document, a step back in time and very rare glimpse of sympathy into the less fortunate in America 50 years ago.

This is brilliant. Amazing to see first hand accounts of real people from this era and an important counter-narrative to the 'Leave It To Beaver' imaginings a lot of people relate to these times.

What has happened to this kind of journalism? I think there's a lot of people who would want to watch these kinds of reports nowadays.

Really? People that work in the Central California fields are provided homes with air conditioning and decent wages. Just Google "where do agricultural workers live" and you'll see the homes they live in. Not bad at all. Go back thousands of years and study how people used to live. Well, actually, just research on some conditions people live in TODAY around the world. They would JUMP at the chance to work in a field in the United States.

Murrow was probably the bravest man in the history of TV journalism - Bar none. Loved it when he took on Joe McCarthy . . .But this is how real America was only seen who lived this life.

There is an option on every RUclips video for closed captioning. Make the video full screen & in the top right corner you'll see a little icon that reads "cc". Click on it.🤡@@pooie0116
