I Have to say I think I have gone 0 days without watching the kiss - or the scene... 😢 if not whole episode including 6 - watched the whole season several times.
I heard a few people say that, at some point, Azi starts to or does open his mouth, wanting to deepen the kiss, but I don’t see it.
Granted, I haven’t gone frame by frame.

i just realized… his expression changes milliseconds before he says “i forgive you” from pure astonishment to disgust/horror, BUT. i think it wasn’t disgust/horror at crowley’s act to kiss him, but because he knows that crowley basically put him in the worst position to reject him. crowley has known aziraphale for millennia, so how could he NOT know that azi wouldn’t choose ANYTHING over the preservation of humanity and the common good - even crowley? it’s not a “how could you kiss me” look; it’s a “how could you make me leave after THIS?”
Absolutely this. I don't see enough people talking about this. From how Aziraphale might be seeing it is two-fold: you tell me NOW?!? So, is it real or are you manipulating me to stay? And then the afterwards when the wheels start turning and he might be realizing that had he let Crowley give his speech first...
@@terribleatmagic Yes, I think Aziraphale was deliriously happy b/c he thought he'd found a way for him and C to be together AND help humanity (his mission in life). He felt rejected by Crowley and felt he put down that mission.
That makes sense actually, I've been trying to understand why he reacted the way he did cuz something wasn't sitting right with me
My first impression about it is that maybe Aziraphale felt that kiss as if Crowley was tempting him to stay, and how dare him to use something so pure, something that Aziraphale has been longing so much to manipulate him.
Then, I don't think is just Aziraphale wanting to be an angel, savior of humanity. After watching the Elspeth encounter, and Furfur almost exposing their alliance, I think that Aziraphale is more conscious about the potential danger that might come to Crowley because of their friendship/relationship. I believe Crowley was tortured in Hell after his good deed to Elspeth, that's why he's so changed in their later encounters, he seems to have PTSD after that. I think that's why Aziraphale can't and won't let himself that little indulgence, because he could never be ok with endangering his beloved Crowley by being with him. I think Aziraphale is sacrificing the love he feels for Crowley and taking distance to save him. I don't think Aziraphale chosed Heaven over Crowley, I think Aziraphale chosed to save Crowley over his expectations of being together, and the love he feels towards Crowley.
But, i'd like to hear your thoughts about this.

@@ALeXZVaMpYRoCkZ yes yes yes!! amazing insights (and amazing English, no worries), i couldn’t agree more. i think crowley’s emotions are pure but the kiss was a kiss of desperation, not a proclamation of those pure feelings. it was manipulative, and i think crowley knew that.
it makes so much sense too that aziraphale would sacrifice his love of crowley to preserve him - and that’s how we know it’s real. i just can’t wait to see how that first meeting between them in season 3 goes…
The way you can see his inner conflict just by the way he moves his hands over Crowley, pulling him in but also hesitating at the same time. I will say it again, Michael is a brilliant actor 😭😍
I've been a fan of Michael's since Wilde but after seeing him play Aziraphale I'm convinced he is my favorite actor :)

I saw someone on tumblr point out that when aziraphale first ate human food, it was like he was starving, like he was starved without knowing cause he never had anythinh else to compare it to. and to think what a kiss would've done.
I just wanna add that after the kiss, aziraphale gasped and was breathing heavy. He also gasped and breathe heavy when he first had that ox rib.
SO just to add to that tumblr post, aziraphale was starved of intimacy and he finally got a taste, yet he'll be starved again, only this time he'll be aware of it
He's not going to be able to stay away for long - it's an entire realm of human enjoyment that he has never explored... (🤞🤞🤞)
This is my theory as well.
This theory would explain why Azirapale found himself constantly eating human food. It's safe to say that angels don't have an "I'm full" function in their celestial bodies which results in Aziraphale never feeling full and constantly eating trying to satisfy what he can't satisfy. Essentially Aziraphale has an eternal hunger, which now includes an enternal desire for intimacy. Poor Aziraphale is just trying to keep himself from exploding from hunger/desire whenever he's near food/near Crowley. On top of that, Aziraphale has an intense neverending fear that God abandoned him since the day he allowed Adam and Eve to go off together and live a life with the aid of the flaming sword Aziraphale gave them. Aziraphale latched onto Crowley out of loneliness because God and the other Angels pretty much didn't keep in contact with him and Crowley was the ONLY one who cared enough to keep in contact despite the fact demons and angels are not supposed to have any contact with one another, other than trying to stop one another from enacting their plans.
However, Aziraphale was left to his own devices without any form of intervention for so long that Azirphale grew depressed and lonely which caused him to latch onto the ONLY person who seemed to care, even if it was just a minor smile or haughty acceptance of a deal that was made. The ONLY person who kept in contact with Aziraphale and kept him from going nuts was Crowley. Which over time turned into a deeply connective friendship and maybe even kinship because Crowley was also abandoned by his (Crowley's) people as well.
I mean Crowley and Aziraphale were left alone for 6,000 years! That would make anyone go nuts. Now imagine being an immortal being hiding in plain sight, and left completely alone on a planet you are meant to either harm or protect (depending on if you're an angel or a demon). It's no wonder Azirphale and Crowley clung to each other. They were all they had. It's so sad when you think about it that way.

The way Micheal can express so many things in quick expressions that you have to really pay attention to see them is incredible
When you analyze this scene in full depth and notice the tiny little details that can be easily overlooked after a first time watch, you can see very clearly that Aziraphale wasn't horrified by the kiss, he was shocked and wasn't sure how to respond, you can see how he's fighting with himself to pull Crowley closer and then that broken look on his face when Crowley pulls away, he isn't sure what to say so, he simply says I forgive you. Because he feels like Crowley is rejecting an opportunity to be with him in heaven without fully understanding Crowley's point of view and Crowley feels like Aziraphale is rejecting him and choosing heaven over them being together. That kiss was a desperate attempt to make Aziraphale see how he truly feels. It's heartbreaking the more you look into this scene.
If you look at Aziraphale's face before he turned, he looked like he was on the verge of tears.

Single most devastating kiss ever. Azi's desperately sad gasping after the kiss is too much.
I want to add something because I'm a huge fan, and I just can't keep this for myself.
Aziraphale said something right after Crowley exited the bookshop. It's a "no."
We can't really hear it well even if the music has been lowered, but we can read his lips pretty well, I must say. That's why I'm so confident in this.
But it's not just a "no", it's a breathy, high-pitched "no." It's a desperate "no." He's not even able to get his words out because he's shocked from the unexpected kiss.
Now hear me out. That "no" held a deeper meaning. There's so much hidden under that "no." It was something along the lines of "No. Don't leave.", which is obvious, right? BUT NAH, THERE'S MORE! *I* THINK THERE'S MORE!
It was: "No. Don't leave. You can't possibly leave right now! *I didn't get the chance to talk to you about this!* I didn't get a chance to talk about this kiss in more detail! *I still have things to say to you, you can't leave just like that!*"
Painful, I know. But it makes sense, doesn't it?
We all know that Aziraphale told Crowley he forgived him, but what for? The kiss? Yes, maybe. But still, he didn't have a chance to reorganize his thoughts after that completely unexpected kiss, so he just blurted that out.
I believe that Aziraphale wanted to say more to him, but he was too shocked because come on, he experienced A KISS. A human thing, a human thing that he's never experienced before. That's exactly why he appears so confused! Because he wasn't expecting such a thing!
I know he wanted to say something else. I know he wanted to elaborate on that, but he didn't get a chance to, since Crowley left immediately after he told him the famous lines ("I forgive you").
It's also important to remember that when Metatron told him if he was ready and if he wanted to bring something with him, he said no, BUT after a very short time, he seemed still conflicted ("I think I-" [...] "Nothing at all")
He hoped he would get a chance to talk with Crowley again before going to Heaven.
Since i’m hearing impaired, i do a lot of lip reading. I’m confidant in saying that he mouths the word ‘love’ before he drops the ‘i forgive you. I (love)… i forgive you. He looks out the window, and since he’s being watched by the Metatron he has to choose words and movements carefully. It’s a performance, and he was hoping Crowley would pick up on it. Crowley is too overwhelmed and not thinking clearly, which is just shattering; he would have picked up on some of the ‘tells’, since they weren’t flirty. 😂😢

This is the most soul crushing and devastating kiss between two characters who are madly in love with each other that I think I’ve ever seen… Every time I think it won’t affect me and every time I am wrong

He tries to say "no" when he sees Crowley leaving, but even then his words fail him due to the shock. But it's there. The formation of the word on his lips, the almost unaudible whisper, the "no" is there.
For some reason hearing people's voices outside the bookshop just going about their normal lives hits harder.

It just occurred to me now (!!! even tho it's pretty obvious) that they had to do this scene and take at least two-three times, however professional David and Michael are, I mean two of the best at their skill, but this was not the only take because duh and OH WHAT I WOULDN'T DO TO SEE THOSE OTHER TAKES.

They tend to do scenes with important things, like a ground-breaker kiss as this one, more than once to be able to edit the scene adding different angles and show different details. And due to how heavily emotional this particular kiss is, I won't be surprise that they needed to do it a couple more times, not because they might have done it "wrong", but for them to perfectly capture it for the exact effect they were going for.

The first time I watched this moment I felt the music helped put the whole scene together (you feel the climax a lot more, and the kiss feels a bit more like a gut punch - at least, that how it felt to me!), but I always find it so fun to just watch the actors' performance without background music
Usually on music overpower dialog, I’m with you. EXCEPT. Except, the leitmotif that plays during this kiss - that swell - is the same that plays when Crowley starts up the universe and explodes the stars into being Before the Beginning. Except. It’s played in this minor key. Which has implications. Which is heartbreaking.
It’s such a desperate kiss because he’s trying to start a new relationship with aziraphale but aziraphale is leaving. So his world is ending before its started. Aziraphale wants to go to heaven with Crowley because he thinks that’s where they can be truly happy, where Crowley will be truly happy because he’ll be on the side of “good” again and they can make stars, make the universe better than it is. But that’s not how it works. Everything they need is on earth.
I just really love the soundtrack and I didn’t cry until about 10 minutes after I finished episode 6 and I realized that was the same motif playing. Some real top tier stuff that’s going to stick with me for a while.

I totally believe azira was gonna spit out i love you, the way he gasps and the first words that form arw "i l-" and it stops there, and then he says i forgive you. It breaks my heart everytime
God. This scene is heart wrenching…makes the scene when he says “Have you ever thought about just talking to him?” even more painful.💔 he did, but at the same time put Azi in the absolute WORST POSITION. He’s so conflicted about it all and it’s more of a “I forgive you for putting me in this position.” Not forgiving him for the kiss. He has never been kissed before and he never gets to say anything else to Crowley.
I get the feeling this isn’t what it seems. Aziraphale is VERY HESITANT.

I’ve watched this scene more times than I care to admit, and it never loses its power to completely devastate me. I can feel it in my heart each time. Michael’s and David’s acting ability is truly off the charts. I’m blown away. I don’t even think I’ve ever been this heartbroken for so long over any love story. 💔
My husband has only freely sobbed & shed tears at 3 film scenes in his adult life. When Logan (Wolverine) died in Logan, when Lyanna Mormont died in GOT, and THIS. We both were in a raw state for days after. 💔

Me *screaming at my TV*: NOOO YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO SAY LOVE! WHYYYYY?!?!
I think the reason Crowley was so confident with that kiss was because he knew Aziraphale loved him back, even if Aziraphale doesn’t know himself. He knew a long time ago- it’s been in the air between them for years. since maybe even before the nazi church, but neither of them ever brought it up. There’s been a tension in the air between them for thousands of years that neither of them were brave enough to bring up. And now with Maggie’s words and after conquering another almost wolrd-ending event and years of build up, he finally brought up all his courage to confess.
But we know what happened- it was rushed, by the sudden news from Aziraphale. (just the demon’s luck damn it) and when his rushed confession that didn’t go as he planned failed in a final desperate rush attempt his adrenaline rushed his body to move forward without even thinking and land his lips on Aziraphale’s; hoping that would make him see and come to his senses- He knew Aziraphale loved him, that he’s just brainwashed. he was bringing out his last final will-power to fight for aziraphale. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Aziraphale’s mind was way to broken and bent & shaped by heaven. And eventually, after getting his heart broken, crowley gives up being vulnerable and puts his walls back up as he leaves the bookshop and takes the easy way out again.
And I’m sure moping by himself after the incident Crowley’s brain will start telling him he was delusional, that it was never love to begin with, that he read the situation wrong and completely messed everything up by ever confessing- that will drive him even deeper and deeper in his spiral and build his walls up even stronger- he would definitely never EVER do that with anyone again.
It would only take a full confession from Aziraphale to bring them back together in S3.

I literally sobbed as this scene went down. I finally got an ineffable husbands kiss, but for it to have been under such heartwrenching circumstances was too much and i was just sobbing as the episode ended. I hope they find their way back to each other in season three.♡
I always felt the strongest emotions when Aziraphale pushes back into Crowley as if to say "yes, yes I love you", but with the music lowered I heard Aziraphale's tiny, breathy "no" when Crowley leaves for the first time and it just FUCKING KILLS ME
Oooh here we can hear that "I lo[ve you?]" much. Much more devastating with these sounds.
The freaking Metatron DID SOMETHING to Aziraphale’s coffee, you cannot CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE!!
Sure--cling to the notion of a one-dimensional character and ignore the entire season's character development which led almost inevitably and reasonably to his decision here.

uh, first of all: chill. I’m not “clinging” to anything, just bringing up a possibility.
Second of all, it’s a theory that has been floating around the fandom for some time now ; that the coffee the Metatron gave Aziraphale made him more open to the powers of suggestion. HIS suggestion.
The Metatron was awfully insistent that Aziraphale drink the coffee. A bit odd. Also, why the hell would the Metatron order Aziraphale a coffee in the first place? It just seemed out of character. He could have just talked to Aziraphale without buying him a drink.
Take it or leave it, you obviously disagree.
I absolutely have seen the character development throughout the second season, and I’m not “ignoring” it. I’ve watched each season multiple times. That doesn’t make me some kind of expert anymore that it makes you one. I’m simply a fan who is raising possibilities.

I remember crying for this scene. And replaying it to hear the kissing sounds (since it does sth to my heart, my heart goes like hooollly sheeet, thats hot-) for like, fifty times or so. I want to thank Giulia Villanucci for this video since i got the chance to hear EVERYTHING. Their sighs, them holding their breaths, the tone in their voices. Now, all i need is to go to my room and pray for another season and cry a ton bc my babies are broken. 〒▽〒

the way this was the first time crowley turned his back on him to leave and didn't bother to look him in the eyes - and yet still waited for him outside, in case he changed his mind. he was hopeful, he believed aziraphael could rethink it.

Oh my god I hadn't heard Crowley's breath at the end. This even more heartbreaking. He had gave up.
Aziraphale's expressions in this scene get a lot of attention, and rightfully so, but I think Crowley's expressions after the kiss are pretty underrated. Even with the sunglasses on, you can see the vulnerability on his face after he lets Aziraphale go --- a pained look silently pleading, "Say you'll stay with me," with just a tiny flicker of hope. Then when Aziraphale says, "I forgive you," you can watch as that flicker dies as his face becomes hard and cold. He barely even looks angry at that point --- just tired and defeated.
All that, and he still stands at his car and waits for Aziraphale at the very end, just in case he changes his mind and comes back T.T
The devastation after the "I forgive you" is just so frigging painful to see 😭😭😭

And is it just me or does anyone else see the short expression of absolute rage on his face before saying "I forgive you"
I definitely paid attention to all his lil changes in that short moment, but I don't see rage. It looks like he was very conflicted (and yes, you could say a bit scared) about Crowley suddenly breaking the final wall into physical intimacy at a moment like This. He was unsure how to address it, "Why does he kiss me? Why now? What is he trying to gain from this? How do I feel about it?" and in the end he buries all of the questions down, and he settled for "I forgive you". Because he's decided that No, he can't have this, he doesn't have time for this, that Crowley is going "too fast" after clearly turning down their chance to be together (in his eyes). It's not anger but I think it's kind of a look of defeat, of resolution (a bad one). Which is why he sobs as soon as Crowley is out of sight, because he knew that was a terrible way to end things, but it was his decision and he can't turn back now.

Well, there are quite some possibilities. Angry at Crowley for confronting him with something he isn't ready to confront (I mean, Aziraphale looks at Crowley like he's a snack pretty often), angry at himself for feeling like that when it's not allowed for angels, angry at the fact he is an angel...
Oh, and the kiss was non-consensual, so that's another reason to be angry. Aziraphale is in many ways much more complicated than Crowley.
@@FrolleinFroschbein See, I get peeved when people tag their kiss as non-con. That words makes it look so ugly and violent, usually ppl only reserve that word for strangers or people who you feel no romantic interest. The kiss was a surprise to Aziraphale and he wasn't ready for it, but it doesn't mean he hates it nor that he doesn't feel romantically interested. They've been courting each other for 6000 years and had just gotten into a big fight, the kiss might not be lovey-dovey but it isn't insulting either. But that's just me.

Michael is brilliant. His face going through this plethora of emotions is such a treat to watch. I have watched this on repeat for almost half an hour now.

Aziraphale's gasps and shaky breaths after the kiss get me every time. He's so confused and overwhelmed. Pretty sure he's gonna be thinking about it with mixed emotions every day that he's in Heaven.
I think if we get another kiss in season 3, it's gonna have to be Aziraphale who initiates. After this disaster, I don't get the sense that Crowley would try it again or even bring it UP unless Azi does first.

When I first saw this scene, my mind went blank. I'm a slow person so it took me a good moment to digest what just happened, but then I wasn't mad at Zira. I felt sorry for him and that feeling gets stronger after watching this video. Haizzzz you broke mah hurt gurllll
