2:37 I feel this is why Lucha Underground felt so refreshing and different. It was presented written like an actual TV show. It's just in the world they created they settled every beef and bit of drama via wrestling. So while it can be judged for being a tad cheesy or over the top, I feel it had that balance. A dynamic interesting presentation for promos or segments that felt like a show so you watched. And had great matches in ring.

Lool, I just made a comment about LU before reading yours. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Was part of maybe my last favourite era of wrestling alongside NJPW, NXT. LU added something much needed.

Absolutely, I'm currently sharing Lucha underground with my non- wrestling friend and he's hooked, I make a note of timestamps to keep it moving on the main stories and include the matches that advance story. Overall it really is a great way to consume wrestling and storytelling.

The older I get, the more I relate to the idea of enjoying the conversation of wrestling than the actual shows. I love going over NJPW tourneys and trying to figure out who will win, but unless it's New Japan Cup or G1, the odds of me tuning in for more than two, maybe three shows are slim. If I could get by on wrestling with just the handful of major NJPW shows that aren't Road To's, WWE PLEs, AEW PPVs, and a few youtubers who pay a lot of attention to certain products,I don't think I'd miss much. Especially considering commentary or vignettes tell the abridged story for me.

I agree with NickMyHero. I enjoy listening to people Steve & Larson, Cultaholic, Sara Marshall, MrSantiZap, WhatCulture, MarkyD123, etc opinion about AEW, WWE, NJPW, and TNA more than the matches, especially when I can predict the outcome. I also like debating whether or not certain wrestlers are overrated or underrated and how certain wrestlers should be booked, which isn't as hard as you might think.

Man I thought this was only me. It's almost like this with gaming too. I got Tears of the Kingdom, got decently far into it and then it lost it's draw power. Octopath Traveler 2 the only game that's getting me eager to come back to it. I have hundreds and hundreds, I bought myself into Netflix Syndrome (re: option paralysis), for both my systems, so it's overwhelming. But wrestling is similar, I put on the shows every week, try to watch it, and unbeknownst end up on my phone because the matches, especially WWE, are flrmulaic and boring and the new people there are not very entertaining. With AEW it's at least like hey what weird or stupid thing will happen this week but I still get bored watching. Then listen to the people talk about it and share their thoughts because I don't have any friends having moved to a new city and Asperger's makes socializing a nightmare, I don't know anybody in person who watches wrestling.
Then if I go to try to have discussion about it, any tiniest difference in opinion from a majority seems to get shunned and made fun of.

    • @RomaroBrandon
      @RomaroBrandon 10 месяцев назад +3

@@RyanDMoore It's easy to get tired of something when you watch it for so long, especially if you've seen it a dozen times before even if it is technically new.

Agreed. I consume so much more youtube wrestling content than actually watching wrestling nowadays. I feel like I haven't truly watched wrestling since the end of black and gold NXT prior to the conception of AEW. Ever since then, the state of wrestling has been saturated and all over the place to where I'd prefer just reading sparknotes about everything that's going on.

Can also confirm the layout of most matches is as follows

Anybody else notice just HOW similar almost EVERYBODY'S matches are nowadays? The sequences and moves, they all do variations of the same things. Super kick, cannon ball in the corner, that apron head kick from outside to inside the ring to set up a spring board, the chop exchange in the middle of the ring, the kick out at one after a pretty "devastating" sequence, the number of false finishes, like most of their matches are the exact same archetypes anymore based on "type" of wrestler.

My only sibling died in front of me overdosing in my mom's arms his first ever relapse when his life was just starting to go right for the very first time at 22 when I was 19, turned 32 two days ago, it gets easier man, if he is suffering, he no longer will be, and death is not the ending. I was atheist as fuck until I experienced hundreds of direct contacts with my brother, like beyond a shadow of any doubt I KNOW when it's him communicating with me. You will find these things too man. He won't be gone, just his physical vehicle.

I'm not denying that Undertaker was a SAFE & PROFESSIONAL worker. But people seem to forget he had a 30+ years career putting absolute doodoo matches; especially those RAW/Smackdown Tag team main events (minus Biker Taker, but he was working with Lesnar & Angle so I digress) & just because Shawn put the greatest carrying job since Bret Hart vs the British Bulldog at SummerSlam now people pretend that his body of work was overall "good".

i've not watched a full TV wrestling show since the first Dynamites, like the first month or so, i usually just watch the promos and angles and skip the matches, unless is something like Omega vs MJF or Gunther vs Gable, there's A LOT of weekly wrestling to watch it all, this way the 9 hours of WWE + AEW become like 2-3 hours

Also last I checked there are 64 active women across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT which does not include Alexa Bliss and Carmella so the women's division can do at least a sixty woman Royal Rumble. Or Evolution 2!

I think matches would be far more compelling if 50-60% of matches ended without a finisher, including big ones.

Gotta agree with nick, everything is extremely predictable. Take roman just for an example this isnt a knock against him but every match is basically the same. They give you no reason to watch their top guy. Roman gets in trouble, bloodline shenanigans, roman wins lol. That was his last match and that will be his next match. Who does this benefit? I get hes a heel, hes the big bad, the final boss whatever you want to call him but it makes him look incompetent. What ever happened to the type of heel that would/could beat you clean then beat your ass after the match lol.

Once we enter 1999, The Rock became the biggest star in wrestling. He became more vital to stories up and down the card (Rock and Sock, feuding with Corporate Ministry, main eventing the first ever SD, being vital to Chris Jericho's debut, and being the main foil of the McMahon/Helmsley Reigme) and was getting the biggest pops in wrestling. Stone Cold was #1 Guy of the Attitude Era, but Rock took that crown starting in 1999 and didn't give it up until he left in 2003.

Give it 76 thumbs up. Fully agree. I just can’t dedicate 10+ hours a week to sitting down and watching wrestling anymore. The whole time I’m sitting there I’m thinking about all the other things I could be doing like spending time with my fiancé or playing a video game or watching anything else. Not to mention all the other stuff I SHOULD be doing with that time. So I just spend an hour of my day while I’m at work listening to Steve and Larson tell me what happened and then watch the PLE’s to see the conclusions of stories. But even with the PLE if I’m interested in it and want to pay attention I have to put my phone on the other side of the room.

I kinda get what that guy is saying about paying attention to his phone. I have found myself doing that from time to time. However I love the wrestling, I just think they over do it anymore.
I think they should go back to how it was in the 90's 2000's shorter TV matches and make the ppv matches longer and mean more.
It needs to be more story driven! I believe that is the main problem lately.

I partly agree with the Christian & Matt being the better halves, but not the 'edgy' part of it. I just genuinely enjoyed their work more, they made me laugh a times and were more of a character, though it's much closer the gap between Christian & Edge, and the one for Matt & Jeff. Not to say the later halves are bad, they're all fantastic but I just resonated with the former halves more.

I am not surprised by that comment about enjoying talking about wrestling and distracted while watching and being bored during the shows. I can see it, which is why I think a Lucha Underground style pre recorded show being an option that needs to be used again, keep things more creative than live wrestling shows. Also, if you spend time gossiping about what is going to happen, why will you be interested in the process of a show?

  • @parsath_2584

I have to agree on the Bloodline.
It feels like the story has barely moved from WrestleMania. Roman has defended the title twice since then, And the Jey match didn't need the title.
Even if Cody wins it'll feel like the delay was pointless.
Not to mention, Cody could have been doing way more interesting things as champion, so Roman holding the belt has officially become a hindrance to it.

    • @joegardner851

I disagree about Jey. It was to be the tribal chief. The whole reason for the tribal chief thing was Roman winning the title. Without that title, he has nothing. No power, no claim.

I like the meta aspect of wrestling, matches are naturally going to be boring its just the law of diminishing returns. how many times can you watch an irish whip? the backstage politicking and dirt sheets, as you grow older; becomes more interesting when combined with onscreen product, then the matches. matches are rarley exciting

  • @davidbrobinson1995

Hot Take: Triple H needs to diversify his approach from Factions. It takes away from the overall programs when it's formulaic to have Judgement Day face a mish-mash of Sami, Cody, Jey.

  • @bingbangboomxx
    @bingbangboomxx 10 месяцев назад

Hot Take: Making Wrestlemania the show that everything important is supposed to happen has made other storylines stale. IE: Roman has to loose at Wrestlemania. Cody has to finish his story at Wrestlemania. Makes every other match until then feel like filler because you know major events won't happen until then.

  • @BatFan1

    re: Edge/Christian-Matt/Jeff Hardy:
Matt and Christian have shown to the most creative with the character reinventions of their respective duos. But Jeff and Edge have proven to be the most impressive in the ring and on top of that they are pretty good (Jeff) to great (Edge) cutting a promo so this puts them over top in the eyes of the fans (IMO) and why someone like Vince pushed them to the top rather than their partners.

I think Randy/Roman is too soon at The Royal Rumble: If Orton wants to get revenge on The Bloodline it doesn't make sense for him to start at the top and then work his way down - if he beats up and makes Roman look bad that'd pretty much be it.
So I'd be thinking it'll be Randy vs Jimmy at The Royal Rumble and then he'd take on Solo at Elimination Chamber and then finally Roman at WM40 (not Cody because I'm still pretty sure they want Roman to beat Hogan's record).
