  • 1 year old French bulldog with a continuous murmur and palpable thrill. Exam begins with the right parasternal inflow view and short axis view, showing a dilated (volume-loaded) left ventricle.
The short axis view focusing on the pulmonary valve and pulmonary artery is then shown, where turbulent, continuous flow is seen with colour Doppler.
From the left apical views the left ventricle again looks dilated. Sliding cranially it is then possible to get the bifurcation view of the pulmonary artery and again visualise the patent ductus arteriosus well, as well as obtaining continuous wave traces showing the shunt. While the left to right (aorta to pulmonary artery) shunting is continuous, there is a pulsatile element to it, which can be seen on spectral Doppler.
Imaging performed using the Siemens P500.
