      He's the man who was used as a consultant on many films, and yet he has to still explain how wrong much of it is. Lets you know they don't really want to listen to his input but are more interested in getting just enough right to feel justified in their "creative vision." He must spend quite a bit of time slamming his head against nearby objects in response to the idiotic decisions made by directors. I'm sure that insane laugh comes from years of pent up frustrations.

    The reason why the Tyrannosaurus in JP roar before chasing it's prey is to determine whether there is something to hunt, kinda like a fear tactic. Scaring it would make it run, due to the Rex's vision is based on movement (like some species of frog in Africa) But hey, I still love Rexy even if she's an inaccurate specimen

    • @reshi606
      @reshi606 7 лет назад +16

    • @Cpt_Facepalm
      @Cpt_Facepalm 7 лет назад +49

      Glenn Nolasco Im not sure if your talking about JP rex but a real rex had excellent vision and it was not based on movement

    • @GandalfTheTsaagan
      @GandalfTheTsaagan 7 лет назад +33

      For a movie that explanation might be enough, but realistically it doesn't really makes sense
      Sure, there's lots of organisms with poor vision, but those that can only tell bague shapes or even just light and darkness don't need it for anything else
      But an active predator? You could argue that T. rexes could be specialized scavengers, but hyenas and vultures are really specialized scavengers and they have excelent eyesight
      But again, movie logic

    • @manospondylus
      @manospondylus 7 лет назад +9

      Glenn Nolasco That would make sense in the movie's logic, but in reality research has shown that T. Rex probably had better eye-sight than even an eagle

    • @FlyingFocs
      @FlyingFocs 7 лет назад +13

      Also, it's a reptilian creature who's closest living relatives are avian, which genomes crossed with amphibians. It's been frankensteined to heck and back, and that might've screwed with it's anatomy in small ways (poor eyesight).

      @mslockedeye 7 лет назад +24

      She's Italian, that is definitively an Italian accent (I'm from Italy, and this is the accents that I hear when somebody speaks English). My guess she's from the north of Italy as myself, and the Italian accents Americans are used to portrait is from the south of Italy (because Italian immigrants were mostly from the south).

    Why do I love this video? Is it her voice, the originality of the video, seeing someone different...?

  • @mancheaseskrelpher8419
    @mancheaseskrelpher8419 7 лет назад +77

    This video, although largely accurate, makes too large of generalizations. One counterexample to this video is the domestic cat, which infamously makes chirping noises at some of its target prey, for unknown reasons. Another counterexample is the very high pitched screech of the male elk, despite weighing up to 730 pounds (331 kg).

    • @catsonmeth1
      @catsonmeth1 7 лет назад +13

      Manchease Skrelpher not to mention that there are extant avian dinosaurs which are some of the most vocal animals on the planet. Comparing Velociraptors to crocodiles instead of birds was a poor choice.

    • @maxactus4127
      @maxactus4127 6 лет назад +8

      James C, if you are thinking of Pterosaurs, they are not dinosaurs, they are avian reptiles and we dont know if they where vocal at all since we cant go back and listen, there were half- avian dinosaurs that could glide but they still wouldent scream at their prey

    • @catsonmeth1
      @catsonmeth1 6 лет назад +6

      Pterosaurs are only avians in an analogical sense, and they're all extinct. I was talking about the only remaining taxon of dinosaur: Aves. Birds are theropods, like tyrannosaurs, raptors, etc. While it's important to note that it's impossible to determine when exactly the syrinx developed, I'd guess that most theropods, especially the smaller, later ones, had at least an early version which allowed some amount of vocalization. The ability to produce a range of sounds is extremely advantageous for any social animal.

    Interestingly, one animal *is* known to roar right before pouncing its prey: the tiger. Biologists have discovered that the pitch, power and timbre of the tiger's vocalizations are capable of causing disorientation, dizziness, and shock within a few feet, meaning that the tiger can roar to stun its prey before making the last jump or sprint to subdue its prey. This might account for the not-so-great decision-making skills of people being chased by monsters; the movie monsters could have similar vocal blasts that disorient the humans they're hunting. Or maybe they're just surprised and panicked.

    By now most of you have probably realized that the question in the title is still glaring us in the face....
    What would movie monsters actually sound like?

    For theropod dinosaurs, my theory is that instead of chirps and growls, I believe that they chirp, growl, hiss, and roar.

    OMG you guys are geniuses. I've always wondered what movie monsters would actually sound like in real life, but thanks to you, I know exactly how these fictional monsters that could never exist or ever have existed sound like. you are so talented. And thanks to you,I now know that dinosaurs didn't roar as they were chasing their prey. They were silent hunters. They used stealth. They probably played a lot of Splinter Cell and Metal Gear in their downtime to hone their stealth skills. Because I've never traveled back in time to 65 million BC, I never knew how or when dinosaurs roared, but now I do. Thanks to your genius intellect. I don't know how I could live and gain knowledge if you weren't around. Thank you soooooo much! !

    Just a quick question, would predators roar at say, maybe intruders invading their territory? or when they're trying to protect their young?

    That bit about the tyrannosaurus in Jurassic Park is kinda null. It was already attacking it's quarry, it wasn't sneaking up on the car so its not like it had broken it's cover is it?

    that is true predators are silent hunters. only thing i know that makes a sound when ambushing or changing is humans. humans have the need to make noise when they charge maybe be give humans more rage power idk.

    Well I assume that since the parasaurolophus is in distress it would blow air through its crest with more force resulting in a higher pitch.
    Also the guy at the end is wrong about one thing, spiders make noise. Tarantulas hiss, rattle, whistle and even bark in some cases. But again that's only as a threat
