Probably about time camera companies start actually installing some sort of tracking software into the cameras directly, especially the ones we spend thousands on! Rather than depending on an AirTag that can removed almost immediately and easily if known and found! Nonetheless, great video as always 🤗
Tracking software is useless without internet connectivity. That’s why AirTags work great because they use iPhone connections around to ping it’s location. Camera companies would need to add cellular data which is very expensive and consumers won’t want to pay more for a camera + monthly service to be connected to the internet
Camera companies should be doing a much better job with security. No one steals an iPhone because they are worthless to thieves when owner reports it stolen. Cameras and lenses should be no different. If they did that, they would be a LOT less attractive to thieves.
I do agreee my camera gear was recently stolen from the car but the aple products they dont even touched it. I suspose technicaly is not hard to make it work as applemproducts it its stolen its worthless. They definetely should do that
Iphones are stolen ALL THE TIME. It’s simple, just don’t be dense and leave things in your car. Go ahead and follow your airtag into the hood and risk being shot.
I never knew, but I am buying one now. Thank you for the recommendation. Also, does anyone make one of these airtag things for a lens collar? I have a 600mm lens prime that I would like to put an airtag on.
I love the info BUT… Info like this should be in private film/ facebook/ camera group forums only (In DM’s only lol). It’s great that the information is getting out there, but until camera manufactures start putting trackers into the cameras themselves, I feel like we will always be targeted. Any thief can run across this video BUT yes I know most criminals won’t take the time to do research they are just focusing on grab and dash.
Hi I am interested in the Arca swiss SmallRig plate but I can not fined anywhere what the measurements are? could you please let me know. Enjoyed your video.
The sticker thing is a good idea however if you were to put it on a camera or lens, and you go to sell that camera or lens it may be hard if not impossible to get off and may devalue the item. Obviously far better than having it stolen (not that the label would necessarily stop someone from selling it but it would be a red flag to someone looking to buy a camera that was actually stolen and had this on it).
Well unless they watched this video then they will know where to look for this airtag 😅 Also camera thieves (Who knows a bit about cameras) know that the cops will take sometime to coming for them so they know they have time to look
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI sure but as soon as they take it you’re notified immediately so it would be very difficult for them to remove them which means you have a chance of being able to find your stuff

we had some rogue security company at an event this summer try to heist all the camera gear. they got away wtih one of the blackmagics, mfs. this airtag mount still ain't it tho. we need a good one, so dropping this note here for you to use your partnerships with someone to get a better one engineered. on the komodo i tried both the smallrig, and tilta cages. the titla is on it now, which i have my own gripes about the mounts. i have both smallrig products, and neither really make it easy to mount to the cage on either the komodo or the bmpcc in an either inconspicuous way, or a way that doesn't obstruct a handle, a battery door, a memory card door, etc. we need one that mounts into a slim profile baseplate for cinema cameras so we can leave them attached permanently. the gdu baseplate for the komodo would be something i'd like to see a tag mount built into. the lens cap ones work until you take the lens caps off. then what? it's only good if it gets stolen while it's in the case? i feel like no one really thought these out the entire way thru. i have one of the round ones mounted to one of the only points i could attach to on my komodo cage, and after a few hours of shooting my hands were actually bruised from where the other holder rested. i'm at a loss and frustrated. i don't want the tag off that camera ever. but if anyone reading this has a better 3d printed design, i'm all for buying one at even a bit higher price point as long as it makes sense.
I purchased one several months ago but in all honesty thieves are first people who check for these GPS location tags. The only people who don’t are perhaps other greedy photographers.
Unfortunately apple hates the idea that airtags can help retrieve stolen goods so it will alert the thief in every way it can that there is a airtag following him after just a couple minutes
@@mondobytes that is a fair point, i just hate the way airtags can’t shut up. The ones i have attached to keys i dont use often even schime each and every time i grab the keys and only my phone in close aproximetry..
That's because Apple don't want stalkers to use them for nefarious purposes. I think safety measure that should absolutely take priority over it's use as an anti theft device.
@@urubuclube wouldn’t work, most cameras are made out of aluminum / magnesium so signal wouldn’t transmit. This is why all the accessories have plastic so it doesn’t block signal. If cameras had an area of plastic it could ruin the weather sealing or structural integrity. For a camera brand that’s not worth it especially since not everyone uses an iPhone.
I did it to get my iPhone. It ended up in the ghetto but I went to a local police station first and followed the cop there. Cop was smart and played a mind trick on the 3 dorks while they were in the apartment and one was stupid enough to open his mouth. This was in Los Angeles south central area where you wont see a white person. So it is possible but go with a cop.
This is cool. I am picking up the SmallRig ones. I use them primarily when I travel to keep track of any possible lost bags on the airplane.

There are other trackers much better for theft than AirTags that work just as well without notifying the thief
@@MiaSoreryOF which one
Have been wondering the same thing for years
50€ for that sensor cap is straight up theft as well.
It look like 3D printed plastic, with some little magnet, 50€ ? Useful in some case but no thanks.

Nice, great video Armando, was looking for solutions to "airtag" my stuff!
Thanks video like ask you share the low profile mount. From 3:13 what plates or gear you using to mount camera en battery?
Great information as always 👍🏼

Always wondered why these high-end cameras don't have tracking built-in.

That lens cap comes in every mirrorless camera brand except Fuji x-mount 😑😑😑
What type of the asset tag did you get? It looks like different types which is confusing. Was it AlumiGuard or PlioGuard?
The PlioGuard tears when peeled, so I’m guessing that’s the one
What's the exact name of the label used
Is this plate compatible with the DJI RS3?
Where did you print your aluminium sticker ?
Check the website in the description. I believe this particular product is PlioGuard

Putting a magnet by the sensor doesn’t affect this?
in what way ? Most cameras these day have IBIS, it's basically a strong magnet to stablize the sensor.

how will they know the air tag is there? apple will send them an alert that its there.
