It's not really depressing. Corruption is strong. You don't want to fuck your boss in the ass, since you know that, if you're not 100% perfect, he will kick your ass before he gets any drawbacks.
With bodycams, they have to follow policy to the T or, no matter who they face, will lose their job. See it as police officers being empowered to stand up to corrupt behaviour from everyone, no matter who it is. Not that they "only do the right thing because they're recorded". One is pretty a negative view, the other a pretty positive one.
I'd say, that they do the right thing neutrally to everyone, is due to the bodycams securing their PoV without influence by higher powers.

the way he instantly pointed at the "issue" tells me that even if there was no camera or policy, once he realized how fucked up the system was he wouldn't last more then a week.
I've seen it countless times in Guatemala, good cops getting murdered because their tried to change the system, or good people quitting because fuck that shit.

Also to help keep the guys calm, its one thing thy can relate to. This helps the investigation more smoothly. The more of a jerkthey are, the less cooperative the arrested cops get, leading to a less successful investigation. Them making comments about the cameras ultimately helps us see justice be made.

I'd like to add that when the officers in these clips are saying "Our camera is on so we have to do this", doesn't necessarily means that they'd rather be corrupt but it could also mean that due to the camera and mic being live they now are also afforded the confidence to go through with doing what they need to do despite if their colleagues would rather go off the books.
      First example seems perfect:
Officer A refers to the camera and mic being on and that they need to do what they got to do.
Officer B on the other hand has the camera switched off, and later on even asks if they can turn them off for a moment.
Body cams are basically a great tool for the good apples while its a great detriment for the bad apples. Can't even imagine there was a time when it wasn't a thing.

you know, that's all fine and dandy, but I'd like to see you going against YOUR boss. The cameras give these officers a CHANCE to be honest and do the right thing. Without the obligation to do the right thing, bc of the camera, it would be much more difficult to go against their boss or coworker. These people have bills and families. You try to get a bad reputation at work, you try to go against your boss, see what happens.

Yeah they need a company that rents the cameras and hosts the footage on servers that can not be accessed whatsoever without a warrant, and secure links to the videos are only given to defendants, lawyers, prosecutors, detectives, internal affairs, federal police and judges. This footage is read only and can not be copied or manipulated in any way, nor can false hard copies be made and be used as evidence as the only way the court will accept the bodycam footage is if it is streaming directly from this specific secure link.
The body cameras themselves should always remain turned on while charged, and any attempts to block the camera or cover the mic will cause the bodycam to sound a very loud and obvious alarm while noting the incident in a tampering incident report that is sent directly to their superior and the server for secure file storage. Any arrests or tickets issued while tampering with the bodycamera is to be thrown out by a judge. It should be treated as as serious as shooting someone.
This is the only way to ensure all bodycameras catch everything.

It's absolutely ripe for corruption to have them investigate their own superior officer. Not only is it stupid to expect different results than this, but it's not fair to the officers to put them in that position. It disgusts me how many times these cops have slapped handcuffs on people for many more minor offenses than these, then act surprised that they have to have handcuffed, then they get special treatment to get cuffed in the front as a "professional courtesy". These corrupt cops think they're above the law, literally trying to talk their way out of being arrested. Makes me sick.

There are many reasons for this. Firstly, they don’t know the people they are handcuffing. These cops are usually called up to deal with ppl who are acting out in ways that is alerting the civilians around them. The cops don’t know if they ppl have records of acting aggressively or being violent. So to protect themselves and the civilians like u and me, they must act stern, and dominant to keep the situation under their control. However if they know the person personally, they will have a better understanding of how dangerous that person can be and they will be able to act more accordingly. Secondly, they most definitely don’t think to be above the law. The courts are usually Pretty aggressive towards the cops and really humbles them quite a bit. I used to be a defence attorney assistant and so I would witness it often. They seem nervous bc it’s their boss. Imagine watching ur boss go against the rules and having to correct them. It’s nerve racking for most. Not all cops r bad. The reason ur able to sit here and write this on RUclips in the first place bc u don’t live in a constant life or death purge, bc the cops of the world are keeping it safe for u. Do they make mistakes? Ofc! They are humans like u and me. But not all of them r bad. And actually a lot of them are good 😊

I love how in the first one, they aren’t one bit concerned with public safety, only that they have to be recorded. These cameras are finally making sure that our police are doing their jobs right. It’s only one step, but more accountability is a good thing

Yeah, and how they dislike the cuffs on themselves, while they did it to several people daily with a smile. I like the last "Italiano gal", asking " Is she new?" like, doesn´t she know the unwritten law of our gang? We the supreme overlords on this land, promise to serve and protect each other at all circumstances, and those are our peasants, not worthy our space, who we will control, lock and realese and manouvre whenever, wherever, whatever they did.
