So well said. I've always wondered though, how one's face, a genetical gift or curse, shapes our destiny. There's a limit to how much character can shape the face but the face and how others respond to it can change the character. This is a chicken or egg who came first ponder. Face or character associated with that face, who came first. I think that ironically we become what our face looks like and not the other way round, in many way that can be tragic or providencial. Once you look the part, you slip in it. But no matter how much you know the part, if you don't have that look, nobody will accept you acting like it.

Its kind of fun to think about how it works though. If you see the cylinder in the back and the way the fingers move, they're clearly binary.
6 fingers, up or down, signalled by pegs? And then the amount of air from the lips, controlled maybe with a raised circle with varying height, opening and closing an aperture connected to the bellows.
      Thats my guess.

My husband took apart a 1916 Duntley vacuum cleaner to clean and oil which had the same squeeze box found in this automaton machine, supposedly was meant to suck up the dirt, though the vacuum cleaner just blows air. Ideal for this automaton to create sound not so much for the Duntley vacuum cleaner. LOL
