So well said. I've always wondered though, how one's face, a genetical gift or curse, shapes our destiny. There's a limit to how much character can shape the face but the face and how others respond to it can change the character. This is a chicken or egg who came first ponder. Face or character associated with that face, who came first. I think that ironically we become what our face looks like and not the other way round, in many way that can be tragic or providencial. Once you look the part, you slip in it. But no matter how much you know the part, if you don't have that look, nobody will accept you acting like it.
Its kind of fun to think about how it works though. If you see the cylinder in the back and the way the fingers move, they're clearly binary. 6 fingers, up or down, signalled by pegs? And then the amount of air from the lips, controlled maybe with a raised circle with varying height, opening and closing an aperture connected to the bellows. Thats my guess.
Here because I’m reading Quantz’s treatise on baroque performance practice, and well quite frankly a bunch of other things too. He mentioned Mr. Vaucanson’s “erroneous teachings” and more specifically, the footnotes mention this thing. I’m mesmerized...
Also, the position of his feet and body (tribhanga). The creator of the doll definitely replicated the form of Krishna murti. Just the clothing is different, Western style.
My husband took apart a 1916 Duntley vacuum cleaner to clean and oil which had the same squeeze box found in this automaton machine, supposedly was meant to suck up the dirt, though the vacuum cleaner just blows air. Ideal for this automaton to create sound not so much for the Duntley vacuum cleaner. LOL
There's been from 1870 until now as much an explosion of creation and growth in music as in scientific technology... If they had the short songs And variety across the board of music that exists now , they would be much improved even for what they can do.
A wonderful automaton; but a far cry from Vaucanson's masterpiece, which actually *played* its instrument. This one, alas, relies on a little barrel organ to provide the music.
Strange. I am not terrified at all, I am mesmerized by the amount of work that has to be done to create something as complicated as this. It is almost magic.
More horrifying to watch 21st century cell-phone addicted "automatons" walk into traffic, walk into walls, step off escalators and just stand there....
@@gunnarthorsen Welcome to the 21st century where living sentient beings behave like lifeless mechanical automatons......what marvelous progress...!! LOL..

Some people should definitely watch less horror movies since they are so sensitive.
This is a great work of art and craftsmanship, simply amazing!
i wonder why the 1875 samurai and "The Turk" went so wrong

The face was masterfully carved, it conveys confidence, poise and temperance. Mesmerizing and inviting, really well done.

I just started learn psychology this semester and automata is a thing that we learn in the history of modern psychology, and here I am!
It's amazing how such detail and such care goes into the creation of a thing of beauty that lasts for centuries
That is so cool.they really had talent back then for this.
Simply amazing, it is almost 2020 and I couldn't began to think of replicating this.............

Amazing ❤️ Automatons are such marvelous inventions. It still amazes me how developed technology actually was before. The inventors are geniuses. 😳

He looked so alive!
Amazing ingenuity. Wonderful. Thanks! I'll be sure to visit the museum.
The peacock feather on his hat makes me think about Krishna (he has his skin black and he often appears with a peacock feather)

Hare Krishna!!!
I confirm, that God.
Plus Krishna would carry a flute as well.
These fine machines are highly decorated music boxes!
It’s amazing that they were able to do something like this in the 1800s
This is beautiful!!!! I hope to visit that place....

I'm pretty sure this was based on an automatic flute player by the Banu Musa brothers.

Que genialidad, una obra de arte.
I wonder how tall this stands as it appears to be life sized in the first shot of it being wound. Really nicely crafted mechanical brilliance.
