- This is the apartment where Kurt wrote most of the songs on Nevermind, including Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come as You Are. If you want to read the full story of my travels in the footsteps of Kurt Cobain, pick up my new book Breakfast with Polygamists: Dispatches from the Margins of The Americas. A short version of this piece was published in The New York Times, but the full unedited version of the piece includes some perspectives from Kurt's uncle, who still thinks Courtney had Kurt killed.
Dave Seminara is the award-winning author of four books, including Mad Travelers: A Tale of Wanderlust, Greed & the Quest to Reach the Ends of the Earth and Footsteps of Federer: A Fan's Pilgrimage Across 7 Swiss Cantons in 10 Acts. you all prolly dont care at all but does someone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Rafael Liam Instablaster :)
@Romeo Eden Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Romeo Eden it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
@Rafael Liam You are welcome xD
Imagine they walked in to see a startled 40+ year old Kurt Cobain trying to climb out of the window
+brandon mcgaw lol
lmao best comment ever
brandon mcgaw I'm laughing and crying at the same time
lol yes
That's funny asf. I wish he was still alive :(
Other people in the comments say the guy looks like Kurt but to me he looks like Chad Channing Nirvana's first drummer.
That's exactly the person I was thinking. lol
That was my first thought!! 😂
It probably is because Chad ain’t got no money
Right??? They’re like twins it’s crazy
I used to work with Chad Channing, and Kevin Wood (Andy's Brother), at the Streamliner Diner, on Bainbridge Island, Washington, on Winslow Way Ave. Chad washed dishes. Kevin was a cook. At the time, they were both in a cover bans called The Fire Ants. Chad was a great drummer, and beat the shit out of those drums, for such a small guy. Kevin was an Amazing Guitar Player. Fun times in 1991-92, right after I graduated high school.....Andy Wood, at that time, had been dead for about 1 year.
Cool to see another musician living there now and appreciating the history of the place.
Whoever painted over "Kurt smells like Teen Spirit" is a total lunatic.
The Internet Killed Music I bet if they peeled back the paint it'd still be there.
Lmao it was probably kurt
Yeah, because you know after you kick out a random junkie (at the time) out,you keep every random graffitti or stain on the wall, just in case that junkie becomes a famous musician, is not like the landlord needed to rent the place to other people, you know people that pay rent, stupid ass dipshit.
@@Drugaddict22 Stupid ass dipshit seems to be you.
@Daniela Lobos Pérez did you know him personally?
Man I wish they could just walk In to see a 50 year old Kurt Cobain trying to hide in his closet.
Seems like a nice guy. Good luck to him.
EdD5 yep
When he said that the picture was taken just outside, I felt so happy, like if he never died. Thank you for this man. We miss him so much.
He cleaned his house nicely for the tour. Much appreciated!
Imaging sitting in that apt, putting on some candles and listening to the demos Kurt created there. It would be like a spiritual experience.
Well that was super cool of him to show us the place. Thanks dude!
Foo3112 I’m about to start my channel soon and need some viewers to view and help share and suggest if they like it.. my channel will be about more than one topic but my first series will be about Kurt Cobain and ect and think you will like it and I’ll definitely sub back if you do 👍 Thanks
I am pretty sure if Kurt stayed with women like Tracy he would be alive today.
not agree. he didnt love her anymore, he have to go
Mary Rodriguez Hernandez Yes I know, but what if he didn't stop loving her?
+simon he would killed himself. because he was suicidal man.
Mary Rodriguez Hernandez I know. He had a bipolar disorder and Courtney made it worse.
+simon the drugs make it worse. courtney is the one that tell him to go to rehab, and he even didn't want to go
I love seeing these types of things, especially when it's about Kurt. Thanks for posting!
Catherine Padalecki Same ^.^
1:00 that's the sink in montage of heck where kurt recorded the bass part for been a son lmao
BadBoy Sadboy yeah you have great eyes!!
There's at least one photo of Kurt with long hair in this kitchen, he's holding a bowl, presumably taken by Tracy.
Where did you get your profile pic from?
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING LMAO
Yeah i see the seem thing
The rent is significantly more than $137 now but Scott didn't want me to say exactly how much. Suffice it to say that the price has grown faster than inflation but it's still a pretty good deal. (Well less than $1,000.)
you are the one that lives there? i would love to see the place sometime. im sure you get that all the time. but i live in Pittsburgh, Pa. doubt i will ever have the chance.
Dave SeminaraI\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to discover reverse phone number lookup try Tarbetti Phone Finder Tutor (just google it ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cousin got amazing success with it.
who this dude scott you speak of i only saw chad in the video
I think they should've kept the rent at $137 just for historical reasons, haha.
Dave Seminara Scott looks like Nirvana drummer before Dave Chad.
Grew up in Olympia and Aberdeen; just moved back to Olympia. Fun to see places I go past every day without knowing their history.
0:23 apartment ovEr HerE AND THEN IT GRAVITADED INTO THIS APARTMENT OVER HERE ANd now here its a studio
I sweae the funny mic really caught me off guard lol
I've seen a photo of Kurt stood in that kitchen. The kitchen looks a lot tidier now.
I lived down the street from this house and biked passed it everyday after Kurt died. Olympia is the Capital and is near downtown. The houses are older and very cool.
Maybe Kurt is under the bed?
Chris Browne or maybe he's made a secret room in the secret loft and is living there, fooling people saying he's dead 😳
@Chimichanga DEX or dumb
Thanks for the video and thanks to Scott for letting us in. I'm visiting WA from the UK and came by this house tonight for a look. Crazy to think how much rock & roll history happened in that place....
Really cool to see this! Great video.
Tomnedreb hey dude I saw your videos hahah I suscribed to your channel
Tomnedreb Your guitar covers are Awesome.
I worked with his uncle and step dad, and people who knew him. Funny thing is Aberdeen is a rough town glad I can say someone made from the Harbor. RIP Kurt!
Just seeing pics of Kurt makes me cry 😭
Amazing footage! Thank you so much for posting!
Just amaZing to know the history there. I visited his first apartment in Aberdeen which is now torn down. Thanks for sharing this
What people never mention was that next door was Jo Mama's Pizza!
Lmao
$137!!! Thats a good fucking deal right there!
+Dylan Swinson $137.00 (1991) is 242.18 in today's dollars, prices were a "bit" different, but that sounds like a really good deal, if the house was alright?! 25 years isn't THAT long ago!!
Uncle Jericho Wants YOU!!! Location is pretty much the biggest decider when it comes to how much they charge, 750 a month but I can imagine you're in a decent area with a lot of stuff close by, this house looks like it's on the outskirts of nowhere lol
Millennial Smark Olympia isn't that cheap anymore same apartment is like 800-1.2k /month now
Thanks man. It means a lot to me for me to be able to see this apartment.
137 dollars Wow I wish I was born twenty years earlier lol
+Manly Men in 92 me and 3 buddies were renting a huge red brick house downtown with parking, backyard, basement jam room, and sunroom for 675$ a month.
Well it was obviously worth a lot more lmao
Thanks for this! I went by there a few weeks ago and I swear that same van is still in the driveway.
Very cool, brother!
I went to NYC just to see the Dakota and had to have my pic taken too..R.I.P. Lennon and Cobain.
Wow, Its almost like being there! Thanks for posting that :) I've been a Kurt/Nirvana admirer since I was 14 (Im 36 now) I'm def gonna check out more of your videos. ALso planning to go out there myself someday. That Scott guy is a real Cutie by the way!
That's fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Kurt;)-
I lived a few blocks away for awhile, in a place over the Alamo on Franklin. There's an am/pm up the way that had a corn dog special. The corn dogs themselves were nothing to write home about, but you could get unlimited fixin's with them, so I lived on those for awhile. So, I have read, did KC & Dave.
Great Decoration with posters and Specially Brian Wilson&The Beach Boys.👍🏄🎸🎶
Oh wow. Thanks for showing us this.
Amazing video, guys!!
how freaking cool.. I LOVE nostalgic experiences.. How much is the rent now? just curious!
Apparently it's less than $1000 but that was 7 years ago
That's so cool, Tracy was important in the lifestyle that allowed Kurt to create and then get successful.
All creatives need support at some point.
Well, thank you for sharing this amazing videos with the fans of Nirvana! Greetings from Brasil!
The tour would’ve been less dangerous with the lights out... 😆
Is it just me or that guy Scott's voice sounds similar to Kurt's??
it does
Kurts voice sounded more devilishly monotone, like when I first heard him I thought he sounded like a villan in a way haha.
He sounds like Layne Staley more though like legit
Can't unhear that now haha
Because he probably grew up in the same part of Washington. Dialect and such.
Maybe it is him?
History of a great artist..thanks for the show guys.
Me and my sister wore Teen Spirit deodorant and I always wondered why the song was called that lol! I thought maybe I was just tripping but glad to know it really was named after the deodorant. They had a bunch of fragrances and smelled so good, like candy 🍭
Kathleen Hanna didn't write that on the wall until after the song was already finished though, after hearing the song. That's the real reason she got punched, because she was trying to take credit for the song that she had no part in making.
This is an awesome video and the guy who rents this place is really awesome too. Great job!
Neat thanks for sharing this
Awesome. Thanks for sharing :)
i swear the guy is Cobain !!!!
Hermann Bunde he looks like the drummer from foo fighters
Hermann.No he doesn't!
Hermann Bunde his talking voice sounded similar...
i swear you are an idiot who doesnt even understand what nirvana was. poser fanboys like you... kurt wouldnt have pissed on you if you were on fire.
Nathan Sheeks the band was a positive band & promoted mostly good themes in their songs. you are the kind of person “kurt wouldnt have pissed on if you were on fire”
this is so awesome man, i accidentaly lived right next door, my window facing his.
That was really nice of him to let us into the home
This is awesome
Thank you!
Wow. Great place to live. They should try to contact kurt with a quija board, his spirit might have a connection with that place.
Imagine that! I bet if they did actually do that, you'd get through to him! Amazing
brandon harrison fuck up
+brandon no. you'll conjure a demon posing as Kurt Cobain.
are u kidding, that would completely ruin that house forever, u should never play with that shit if u don't wanna get your house haunted.
Hey! It's Me! No house has ever been haunted. It's all made up. Fact.
I met Kurt about 12 times next door when I dishwasher at Jo Mama's Pizza. "This restaurant was the best pizzeria I'd ever visited", this is what I wrote on my application and got a job there in the beginning of 1991. The best part was Kurt Cobain lived next door and I remember saying 'listen to live music everyday is the best part of the job'.
"If pizza is art Jo Mama's got the brushes."
Did he ever speak/talk to u? What did u tell him & what was he like?
@@jamesvancam Thanks for the comment, I remember that everyone who worked there knew him but me and waitresses were talking to him when he came in. One time he was waiting behind me as I worked and said, "Hey nice shoes." He liked my low top green Converse All Stars with hemp laces... He was broke and newly single due to money issues and I felt he wanted my dishwashing job since I could drink beer. I felt we could have been friends... I found out about 79% of his songs were written at this time and that Dave Grohl moved in for a short time too. Hind sight is 20/20 wish I stopped in with a pizza to their jam sessions.
What a nice guy Scott is 😀
Thanks for the video. This has been an AirBnB property since at least 2016 now. It's rentable at $81 a night, minimum 30 day rental
This is really cool, I would love to live there
It’s awesome that another musician and Nirvana fan moved into the apartment. I kinda wish that the “Kurt smells like teen spirit” wasn’t painted over tho. Would be cool to see.
Not only did she write that on the wall AFTER the song was already recorded and then takes credit for the song title that she had nothing to do with, she vandalized the innocent rental owner's house and Tracy got charged for it, who then complained to Nirvana, and then Nirvana had to pay for the damages that Kathleen should have paid for and Kathleen has claimed she is owed money for the song she didn't help write. It's actually a really sore spot and the source of a lot of animosity that happened in Nirvana history. And now people go and spray paint it on the garage, owner paints over it, and they do it again. The owner got security cameras but fans just scope out the area for a blind spot and vandalize where the camera doesn't see. I'm surprised the rent isn't higher considering how much work goes into the place because of 'fans" defacing the property. Just look at the poor Hollywood Hills place for an example of fans destroying a place faster than the owner can keep up with repairs.
Bonus points from me for having that Beach Boys Smile poster up there!
@ Simon I was just thinking of that the other day
Cool! Garth Algar lives there!!
broanny This comment gives me hope for the future of the internet. Genuinely funny 👍
I can't watch this past the first pic of Scott. Oly brings too many weird memories, but He played my marriage ceremony, as a friend of the one I married, with music going over a sacred local lake. I hope he is still well. I can't stand to know what's happened there in Oly the last 18ish years.
i recall this place when it was on market
2:55: "Yeah it's a trip". Yes, I bet it is.Pretty cool clip.
The new owner even kinda talks like Kurt Cobain!!
Tracy does not live there anymore?
Props to the guy having The Posies poster.
Dave would mention he would have to pass through this room to get to the bathroom.
Does he still live there itd be awesome if he did
This is more a tour of this guys posters. Didn't even see the whole rooms. No bathroom ?!
Fyi, Kurt did not kick me out, my name was the one on the lease. I found a great apartment in Tacoma that was twice as big for $250. Also, I wasn't the one who rescued his equipment when he was evicted. greymattervandal JoMama's was awesome, but too expensive for us to eat there most of the time. Or cats used to go to the kitchen door to beg for food.
And were supposed to believe you're Tracy marrander right?? Ok.
hahaha.... come on. pretending to be someone else on youtube is sad. i happen to know for a FACT that you are not Tracy. 100 percent fact. So stop acting like you are, that is annoying.
So, answer away, TRACY.
this is the ghost of Kurt and yes I did!
I guess I'm the only one that thinks it's totally possible that this could be Tracy. I hate when people don't believe something just because it seems unlikely. Maybe she'd have an interest in seeing this video.
I used to live on Pear street passed that apartment house all the time.
$137 has the same buying power as $238.13 in 2014's currency, when this video was posted. So if that's the current rent, then that's still pretty damn good. Most apartments around here in West Virginia are not under $400 per month.
7 years later and that's the equivalent to $309.55/month. Still pretty damn good.
What's the name of the documentary he said about Kathleen Hanna called?
It feels like Kurt took disguise of this guy... and now living as him. saying as a joke.
but he sounds a lot like Kurt
Justin Belieber Naw it's me. I never died, got mixed up with the cartel over some bad shit. faked the divorce, the suicide. Made my money and am living free, ever wonder why courtney...LOST so much money. She didn't lose it, it was my cut. Good-by
What was the documentary about Kathleen Hanna called? Can't quite catch what he says
That was cool to see 👍
That door oened up some by it self to the bedroom while you were talking check for his ghost. Never know.
What a cool guy! I hope good things for him..... EDIT: I'm talking about the guy who's showing the apartment, just in case anyone is confused about who i am referring to.
Kurt killed himself in 1994
Very disappointed we never got to see the toilet.
very nice apartment i 😍 nirvana and kurt was a awesome 🎸 player and person
Cant believe you can actually see the top of his head through the doorframe, thats Kurt's corpse
Lol, did his room not have a window?
I’m coming over to stay the night. Kidding, but that would be cool just to take it all in as a Nirvana fan.
Such a nice guy!
this guy with a beard reminds me of Big Head from Silicon Valley, a very cool guy that gets really lucky but yet humble af
How does he open That bottom drawer with the bed in the way? Might have gotten a twin bednstead
Kurt and Grohl shared the bed for awhile... Dave lies about sleeping on the floor because of homosophobia.
wouldnt you peel the paint off lol i would tear that place up looking for stuff lol
That would be disrespectful to Kurt's memory.
It's none of my business but does your rent reflect the fact that Kurt lived there? Roughly how much is it if you don't mind my curiosity? Please and Thank you so much in advance .
Is the apartment still there?
it would be soo cool to be in that house
without that centre rail youd be all over them damn stairs.
What's Scott band's name?
The Hard Way
What would be cool if specialists could remove that paint to reveal the iconic "Kurt smells like teen spirit",probably would be like finding a banksy and that wall would then have to be listed and protected.😃
Love seeing that Smile Sessions poster. This guy knows his shit. Everyone needs to listen to the Smile Sessions, whether or not you think the Beach Boys are stupid. Listen to it.
I lo e Olímpica. And I would like to know about a grouo knom as kutamba they play big marimbas
the room guide is the first Nirvana drummer
He does look like Chad right? 😀😊
The room at 1:14 was where Dave stayed with the turtles: ruclips.net/video/oZe08wtCah4/видео.html
he decorates great luv it
137 bucks a month in 1991 is equivalent to only 304 dollars in todays money. WTF why is rent so expensive now
