Well done. This is the most versatile coil setup I have seen so far. Especially with the multiple clamp/tap options.

Thank you for the positive comment. I’m enjoying making them and selling to those who are not into making one themselves. 😊

Hi Marty, just ordered mine now. The product looks superb. The decision for me was your tuning collar. The other company's oversized collar just looks MacGyvered.

It was nice to meet you in person at Sunfest recently. I would like to have spent a bit more time looking at the coils but unfortunately I was busy with the club table but one of my mates bought one and the telescopic whip so I will be able to have a closer look at his coil.

This looks like a well made product. I saw Walt’s video yesterday of him using the 40 version on a parking garage in VA. I ordered the 80 version with a few collars. Thanks Marty!!!!!

Question: Is the base stud also grounded? Or should I say, connected to the Black Banana Plug connector?
Patience is a virtue, the later part of the video description answered my question.

I dont have a HF radio yet but this looks great and awesome SWR and not as high Q as I thought. Having 3 tap's on at the same time and just plug and play is an awesome idea. I will be checking out more on your products my friend.👍🤠🇦🇺

Tried out my 80M version during the past week, with a 5.6 meter whip which seems to be the length now sold by the usual Chinese vendors on Aliexpress and eBay, Marty. Used the recommended 5 lengths each 4.5 meter counterpoise wires. 20M and 40M were easily tuned using two of the clamps but with those still in place, I couldn't get enough inductance in the coil to also tune it for 80M. 4MHZ was as low as I could get any reasonable SWR result.
With 3 clamps on the coil, it seems too many turns are shorted out to get it on the 80 meter band. I ran out of daylight before I could try it with the 20M clamp removed but I wonder whether a narrower clamp that would short out fewer turns could be devised?

Hi Bill, yes for 80m you need pretty much the full length of the coil with the one collar set down the bottom. With the 2nd collar it does push the 80m SWR up a bit.

Any chance the collar might be re-designed to attach to a a single turn rather than shorting three?@@maddogshamradio3407

A 102 in 10:05 ch (2.59m) whip is very common in the States. Are there enough coils to go all the way from 10m to 80m?

Hello Marty, I read your response to someone trying to tune 20,40,and 80 with three collars. You mentioned placing only one collar at the bottom . I did achieve a good tune on 80.
My question is: using the 80 m coil and 17 ft whip can I get 20, 30, and 40?
    Thanks
    Thomas

Great family of coils. Is the 80 meter coil limited to 80 meters? IOW, if I adjust the whip shorter, it it possible to tune 60 and 40 meters? How far up in frequency can I tune?

Hey Marty great to see you selling these coils. I have a mini buddipole kit. Would I be able to use the Mad Dog coil instead of the Buddipole coil. Your coils look a lot more robust than the standard buddipole one. Regards Chris VK3IK / VK3AWG

    • @maddogshamradio3407
      @maddogshamradio3407  Год назад

Hi Chris. Yes you can as long as the threads match. I presume the Buddipole is 5/8-24 thread.

Just so I’m clear, new Ham here, I have the Mad Dog 40 and a Chameleon 17 ft whip. I leave the whip fully extended and then just adjust the collars (I have 2) on the coil?
    Thanks!
