  • This week we hiked up to the top of Blanca Peak! One of the fourteeners located in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range here in Colorado. The view from the top of Blanca is incomparable with anywhere else. We could see far to the front range all the way to Wolf Creek! We camped on the east side of Lake Como (there are a ton of fish), and summited to the top of Blanca Peak that next morning. Bring bug spray! We rate this hike as a 10/10. Stunning natural beauty at every turn, and good times all around.

    Blanca was my first 14er. For my first 14er it was more difficult than I anticipated, but to this day it is still my favorite 14er. Was great to visit it again in your video!

    Maaaaaan, that is incredible, it's like a different planet out there! I don't know if I could do that honestly haha I remember hiking up one of the seemingly near 90° angle mountainsides off of 160 West through the mountains where it's all loose rocks (where you can pull over on the side of the road) and someone spelled out/wrote: "Jesus

      It is 100% different planet haha! It can be alarming getting into exposure at first, and you can train your brain to be calm over time. It’s like a muscle. I still get a little what we call mountain dementia. At heights sometimes it takes a moment or two for your brain to adjust looks like an optical illusion. I’m sure you could do it! This route has a spot or 2 that’s kind of tricky. I’d say this is actually pretty mellow as compared to other climbs. On this one I didn’t get that altitude fatigue really. We camped at the lake which is I believe 10- 10500 ft so we had a little more acclimation for this climb. Love Monte Vista I’ll have to check out Lu’s, but Cavillos in Alamosa has my heart if you’re passing through check it out! Happy Trails!!!

      @@TheDreamologist oh interesting! That's good - no altitude fatigue. Thanks! I'll try them next time I'm around there that sounds good. I've been to the bbq place down the street from there they were pretty good woody's Q shack. Just past the mtns on the way to Monte Vista off of 160 there's a small house and the fence that goes around their backyard is all snow skiis! Thought that was the coolest thing haha

    This is giving me so much anxiety when you guys reach the peak 😂 We were just in this area last weekend. Beautiful mountain, I wish I could have hiked this one but had my infant so we went to the sand dunes instead

      That’s awesome congrats getting the baby out early. Way to go. The dunes are a great compromise no doubt was just thinking of heading back out that way this weekend. The top ridge is an experience no doubt! Beautiful no doubt. Thanks for watching, stay in touch with us hit subscribe for future videos. Trying to squeeze in as much as possible before the big cold happens.

      @@TheDreamologist I honestly don't know what to expect. I've only done some casual hiking in Virginia. We're going out to check out the area and look around Alamosa a bit too. I'd love to at least make it to the lake area, I just won't know until we get there. Looks beautiful.

    Hey cool vid!! Headlamp was still on... What time did you start the ascent to Blanca from Como?

    • @TheDreamologist
      @TheDreamologist  4 года назад +1

      I think about 5am. We went up came back to Como, packed up, and hit the road. Got back to the valley floor about 4pm just in time for a giant storm to roll in up there.

    Did you use a bear bag or canister? Also, do you recommend hiking with less water then filtering at the lakes? Thanks

    • @TheDreamologist
      @TheDreamologist  4 года назад +1

      Bag for sure. I’d say the hike to como you’ll need to pack some water. Once there filter from the creeks.

    In your opinion, where is the best campsite? Prior tho the lake? Are there camp locations after Lake Como?

    • @TheDreamologist
      @TheDreamologist  3 года назад +1

      There are a couple spots before the lake that are a little too close to the trail for me. Best camping is definitely around the lake. There are some more spots after the lake, however you get above tree line not far from the lake.
