I'm so glad that there seem to be lots of people who appreciate the genius of the old-school Tomb Raider games. They may be outdated graphically, but the gameplay was always top-notch. There was no hand-holding, and the games were often unforgiving when it came to the traps and puzzles. The old-school Tomb Raiders weren't afraid to make you think or let you get stuck in an area until you exhausted every solution and figured out what to do next, and I appreciate that. I miss games like this. Thanks for playing it and reminding us how awesome it is!
+Brandon Moore I have a good friend who grew up with the Tomb Raider games while I just wasn't able to get a PS1 at the time, so I've looked at it more with "fresh eyes," so to speak, and I've been floored over the level of care and detail Core put even into the tiny things most people wouldn't anymore: Lara has to plant her feet and brace herself before she makes a huge leap, she has to turn her legs and pivot her body when she's sliding down a slope, she grunts and has to push herself put when she climbs up a wall, she has to maneuver her body around so she doesn't break any of the support she has to climb, she has a "counting meter" when she goes underwater until she runs out of breath, and when she comes for air, she actually. . .well, gasps for air and takes a minute to collect herself, like anyone would. I could keep going but it's just amazing to see all the love and care Core put into this series to where you just don't see that level of pure detail that much, if at all, anymore.

Anyone remember the Jampack demo? I must have burned up 20 hours on that disc alone, just combing over every inch of the available map XD PS1 era was when gaming for me, went from something you did for an hour or two, to all night binges! TR and Resident Evil changed gaming for me forever.
The first level of this game takes me back man. Idk why but whenever I even think about this stage I feel completely at peace. Its like going to my happy place or something.
We first got a Playstation on christmas day 1997 along with FF7, Crash Bandicoot and Tomb Raider 2! That year my mom got this new job and she told me and my big brother to choose a new game console to replace our SNES. My brother played the original TR at a friend's house and wanted the (then) upcoming TR 2 and a Playstation to play it on. I didn't want to leave Nintendo and wanted the N64. Mom told us to ro-sham-bo for it, my brother won and we decided on the PS, much to my chagrin. During the super bowl a tv spot for FF7 came on showcasing the impressive FMVs. I decided I had to have that game and wanted the PS too. On christmas we did indeed find the presents we asked for under the tree! It was the most exciting christmas ever! We beat Crash Bandicoot and frogger and even FF7(with the help of a strategy book) but TR2 proved to be too tough. Me and my brother spent hours playing and we didn't even get past the first level. Now after all these years I can finally see what other parts of the game are like! Thanks for the memories!

When I came back... There he was :) Great memories. For me the first 4 Tomb Raider games were special, but this one is my favourite.

Being an SNES kid, I remember how these graphics were totally mesmerizing. All I I had was the demo CD that came with about 5 mins of TR2. But I would play that little blip for hours and not get bored.

I used to play this game with my little nephew who was in kindergarten. I was really bad at those jumping, and he would help me with it. I showed him the way, where we should go and find the secret. Now my nephew is in college. How time flies :) but this game is still one of the best game I've ever played.
That T-Rex on the China level though, I never knew it existed because I never knew how to get down there so I always thought there was nothing down there xD

I remember going into Dixons in High Wycombe and seeing a demo of Tomb Raider. This was back in late 1996. It was breathtaking to see such a detailed 3D world. Until that point we had Duke Nukem (or something like that) and it paled in comparison to Tomb Raider. There was a huge amount of excitement surrounding TR...it really felt as if we were on the cusp of a new kind of gaming. Turns out we were.... Ive got many happy memories of playing TR 1, 2 and 3 + Resident Evil 1 & 2 with my dad.
whether or not something is bad is entirely subjective. Some people don't understand nor comprehend the elements that made tomb raider such a good game. Sure, I will admit that the controls were clunky, but the graphics aren't really a factor in older games. The levels in tomb raider were well designed, the puzzles were challenging, the enemies were pretty smart AI wise (for the time) and it really gave you a sense of adventure that is unmatched by many modern games.
9:28 lol, I always wade to the left before the saw blade shooter and jump up and hang from the crack in the wall, swing all the way down to the other corner, drop in, swim under the saw blade shooter there, and come up in the corner. You don't lose any health that way. But hey, this works too. :)

i remember when i played this game for the first time when i was 7 and it toke me 5 month to finish it and few month ago i play it againg and finish it in only 12 hour but no mater how long the time will take me to finish it it was and always will be one of my favorite games from my childhood memories 😊😊😊

Then the rumors started to swirl it was canceled and I was working software retail at the time and saw it removed from the upcoming release list. I was crushed. At least I was compensated with the PC version which ran decently on our WIN 95 comp. Now these days the optimized PC versions rule. Got the TR1-TR6 batch on GOG.

this is one of the memorable games - especially the first level when i used to get very jumpy with the spiders - it made a very eventful attempt to complete level 1
The frickin spikes part in the first level gave me anxiety the first time I played it, especially when you realize this game has no checkpoints if you forgot to save and you have to do everything again. This game is still hard to this day to figure out where you have to go. I dont know why I got it on my PS Classic again :P

My favorite lvl was Venice, was beautiful back in the time also extremely hard at the end. Good old times!
My favorite levels are all of Maria Doria's shipwreck. The crazy level design and whole atmosphere of that ship is fucking awesome

The best tomb raider game ever made
this is one of the memorable games - especially the first level when i used to get very jumpy with the spiders - it made a very eventful attempt to complete level 1

i remember watching my father playing this game,i was so young and i was afraid to play....nice memories
The frickin spikes part in the first level gave me anxiety the first time I played it, especially when you realize this game has no checkpoints if you forgot to save and you have to do everything again. This game is still hard to this day to figure out where you have to go. I dont know why I got it on my PS Classic again :P
