    Another awesome video. From someone who's spent their entire life reading mainstream superhero comics, For the Love of Comics has really helped me jump into the Indie scene and discover just how much potential comic books have as a medium. You've very quickly become my favorite comic book channel on youtube and I hope you continue to grow because you definitely deserve it.

      Thanks so much! It is comments and support like this that make it all so worthwhile and fun. I always say 'if you keep watching 'em, we'll keep making 'em!'

    Have barely seen a few seconds, and this is easily my favourite video from this channel (and yes I have seen each of the collection videos thrice. At least!) Absolutely love the direction this channel is taking. As always, more power to you good Sir! :)

    Totally second the thoughts of you stepping out more =)
    I loved the pacing and it's definitely one of my favourite videos done by you, thus far.

      Thanks so much! This was definitely one of my most challenging videos, but also one of the most fun! I just need to keep working on learning video editing properly, instead of just winging it and figuring it out as I go along! 😋

    How bold! Stepping outside the warm and protective confines of your house-- perhaps I should try that some day... Oh--original art: yes! Nicely edited video, and some good questions ('Why do you make comics?'). I haven't been to a convention myself in years, and perhaps things have changed here, but I was surprised at how many women attended the gathering--is there a strong comics interest by women in India, and does the Indian comics [establishment?] publish to cater to them, as many Japanese publishers do for Japanese women? The Bakarmax creator had an...interesting...historical view of comics, (a wee bit compressed, eh?), and not exactly how I 'remember' words and pictures ('they had caves, then they had paper') coming together, but a fun interview nonetheless. & yes, more 'field trip' videos would be quite nice, thank you.

      I think it is correctly something that the creators involved in this fest are proud of - the number of women on all sides of the tables. While it is ambitious to call the scene in India an 'establishment', independent and self-published comics seem to break through the gender barrier far easier than the superhero stuff. Of course, it's all relative because the numbers are so tiny, and so concentrated - for now - in the upper middle classes, at least from what I know.
      And yes, Sumit Kumar (the creator of Bakarmax) is a pretty funny guy; and as with his comics, you can decide what you take seriously and what is absurdity, and watch for the intersects!
      So glad you liked the video - I had no idea what I was doing with camera and lighting and sound, but had fun nonetheless!

    This is a superb new vlog style of video! So pleased to see FTLOC expanding its horizons.
    I’d love to see more of these in the future 😁
    Indi comics are indeed a worthy avenue to pursue. I was in fact, at a very similar smaller convention recently with Mark Millar and a few less well known comic book writers and illustraters.
    Day trips like this always seem to be enjoyable.

    This is so cool! As a Korean American, I also latched onto the detail at the beginning that this was hosted at the Korean cultural centre. I'm glad they made a space for such an event. I've never really read any manwha (Korean comics) aside from Uncomfortably Happily which got the English translation done by Drawn and Quarterly (my Korean is nowhere good enough to read untranslated materials). I'm keen on checking out more non-US comics, including Indian indie comics. I am fortunate to have the Small Press Expo (SPX) comic festival occur not far from where I live, which brings the cream of the crop indie comic creators in for one weekend, but yeah, again very US creator focused.

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  4 года назад

      Ah, I've heard so much about SPX and would love to make it there one day! I'm not very familiar with either Korean or Indian comics myself, but that's one of the great things about this channel - I'm constantly hearing about and being recommended comics (I've just added Uncomfortably Happily to the list!) and discovering so much out there (if I can get my hands on them of course).
      I'm planning a small spotlight on a handful of Indian comics very soon; as with most videos, it is waiting for me to find the best shape for it to take. Cheers!

    Another feather in your hat! Nicely done! and yes, please "get out" of the house often ... lol
    I love that you picked up posters, and other swag apart from the comics... I usually do the same and it takes weeks, sometimes months to go through them all. However, the purchases not only support, but also encourage these self-published comics creators. Cheers!

      Thank you so much!
      Haha, I may have opened a can of worms by asking if I should get out more ; I was so safe and comfortable at home!
      As much as I resist the merch in more commercial arenas like a Comic Con, independent and small creators/publishers are a whole different thing. It's great that it helps support the artists, but they also feel much more personal and vibrant to me most of the time. Now to find the wall space!

      @@ftloc Oh, boy!
      I have so much to ask!
      -what are your sources?
      -anything other than LCS and Amazon?
      -how about used books?
      -I personally am not a big fan of single issues because of unavailability of options but where'd you get them?
      -would you like to sell some off?

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  5 лет назад +1

      Hahaha, it's a veritable interview!
      I buy mainly off Amazon.in and infibeam.com, both of which have/used to have very good used deals from time to time through third party sellers as well as discounts I keep watching for.
      For the hardest-to-find and rarest of my books, I have used ebay and gotten friends, family, colleagues to bring them back from the US for me. (International shipping is prohibitive)
      If i get lucky enough to travel, I fill my suitcase up with comics on the way back.
      As for selling, I'm not a store or anything, but I do sell some comics online from time to time (through Facebook/Whatsapp groups) when I have doubles, want to upgrade, or just need the space.
      If you're interested in chatting about that, write to me at ftlocomics@gmail.com
