    You made the exact correct call steering away from the questionable path! Second guessing a clear alarm signal and staying the course without verifying is foolish ! Been in my share of close calls but always have been saved by making the prudent safety first call.
    Now that’s a epic dingy adventure!

      @TeuluTribe  3 дня назад +2

      For real! Better to take the safe route than end up in a sketchy situation. Glad we’re on the same page! And yeah, that dinghy adventure was one for the books!

    I lived in California for 20 years and loved steelhead and salmon fishing on the coast. The winter rains would open the river’s mouth and wash all kinds of debris into the ocean, including large tree logs - if it rains had enough. The beauty of the river flowing again to sea after a dry summer also allowed the steelhead and salmon to swim upstream to spawn.
    I don’t know if tree logs are that far south though.

    • @TeuluTribe
      @TeuluTribe  4 дня назад +1

      It could well have been a tree, we have got close to ones before!

    Always keep the dinghy tank full. it balances the boat and in an emergency you don't have time to faff about filling it. Don't lock the engine down unless you need to. That way if you do kiss the bottom it will generally just kick up without damage. About that sea mount, if they are volcanic they are not fixed, they can grow. I think the drill is to get the lat and long and report it to the Admiralty so the charts get updated.

    Most small outboards have a lock pin that allows a partial tilt for shallow water navigation to protect your prop and helps protect from ingesting sand into the water pump. This only allows for slow speed navigation but it’s safer crossing shallow water. Enjoy your channel and safe travels !

      I spend several months each year in Mexico and have for the last 20 years. Only in the biggest cities have I had a problem. You can feel it when a place has positive vibes or not. If you chose unwisely, the locals will let you know. I simply stay away from the USA/Mexico border and get to know then Rancheros further south. The further south the better. The Team Vestas IMOCA 60 was badly damaged in the 2014 Volvo Ocean Race when she hit a reef in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I can't see it being a water inversion if you hit something solid. Water tends to not act like a solid regardless of it's temperature, unless it is ice. So to me it would suggest you were in shallows, above a previous wreck, or found a whale underneath you.
    Personally, I'd go with the wale version. Much better to tell your friends.

    So, This issue is super common, a reef is on the map but not always noticeable on the screen. Why can’t Navionics OR Any mapping app write a simple audio “Alarm” into the app that, based on current heading you will run aground in x feet/meters? It seems like a simple procedure to add but nobody has it, am i wrong? Instead you can get forward facing sonar from B&G and others that require expensive hardware (and would work for both marked and unmarked hazards) but 99% of run aground would be saved with a software driven app.

    Be very careful there been a lot of people kidnap in Mexico.They killed a U.S Marine on his way to see his dad for his birthday. This is the second time this is happened in the last year. They might mistake you as tourist from the US so just be careful.❤❤❤❤
