I grew up in Maine and we had a variation of Shepherd's Pie - called "China Pie." I think it's a Franco-Canadian recipe from Quebec? Difference was the addition of Campbell's tomato soup. Was delicious! Mom would heat it up the next day in a cast iron skillet that nicely browned the mashed potatoes...Mmm, mmm....
@davestelling: Was it made with lamb or beef? I know traditional shepherds pie is made with lamb but I know a lot of people make it with beef which I actually prefer. I’m sure I would have loved the addition of the Campbell’s tomato soup.
@@cak813 Since it was made with beef it's actually cottage pie which is English. The Irish equivalent is shepherds pie made with lamb. Both are delicious :)
Nothing like taking a scenic drive in New England and stopping at every general store along the way. Would love to see a story on another New England staple "House of Pizza"
It's a delightful story. I'm not being bitchy but I love the phrase: we've been in continuous operation almost the whole time. . . Just take a moment to enjoy that.
You should check out a couple of stores in Vermont. Hastings Store is West Danville and Martys First Stop in Danville. Martys went from a small gas station and small market to A full blown store with a deli serving a kinds of food.
Sadly all over Maine we have a lot of general stores that are suffering, for various reasons. Especially sad is where the population has become so seasonal that it can't really support a store. But also a bummer is where the area is so upscale that the general store loses it's draw and connection to the community.
If noone is seen eating this food then why spend time documenting it? Beer, Wine, automobiles etc are put into use in their respective coverage. Why not here? This is every video on this channel, never changes does it? Tuning out for good. 😊😊😊
@lisaherring7725 Oh yes, it is often made with beef, the only difference being the beef one is called cottage pie, the lamb one shepherd, because, well, sheep.
Well that's her thing. No beef it's lamb to much butter, no smoked paprika . Under 20 dollar meal. Not 60 dollar. Defeats the purpose of this meal out in the yard or anywhere unpleasant.
Nothing like popping into a general store for a coffee and ice cream after a hike in the Whites!
Love general stores, brings back great memories
Love New England! ❤

@@DSmith-gs4tr I prefer cottage pie. I’m not a big lamb fan.
Willys Stove in Greensboro, Vermont is also a place to visit. Thanks for making my Bucket List bigger and better. thanks
All that food looks soooooo good!
How I wish we had stores like those here in the Twin Cities.
Great video about our country stores ☮️♥️

I love this. I wonder if we have any general stores in upstate NY

Dan & Whits, Norwich VT! ❤
Must be an older video of Harrisville, I don’t think she’s worked there in a couple years.
And only $10/LB...that is not today's prices.
Very generous offer and you’re a credit to #ytpc, but you actually had 153 entries. I didn’t see my name and you said I was entered. :(
Hi Samantah Rule
This shepherd's pie is the French version of shepherd's pie.
Why cant people just source the best available?
You folks are aware that New England is more than just New Hampshire, right?
This is one video, genius.

Not Mom & Pop. INDEPENDENT!
Cottage Pie is made with beef. Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb.
First thing I was thinking too when she said that. It's a North American thing to call it Shepherd's Pie.
Shepherds pie has lamb. She’s cooking up Cottage Pie.
Cognoscenti - I appreciate your distinction.
Right??? I was gonna say!
First time I had it (pub in London), they called it cottage pie. Love at first bite! Made it for my kiddies (all grown up now), but sweet memories.
Not in New England, everyone I know here uses beef. Born and raised here 🤷🏻♀️

That is your version of shepherds pie. It Is not true shepherds pie
