  • I do not own any of this, this is just a song from Tv Show "Nashville", (season 2, episode 13: "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right" ). The song is called 'Black Roses' sang by young Scarlett O'Connor (Clare Bowen). Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :3
    EDIT :3 Lyrics:
I can see your eyes staring into mine.
    But it's a battlefield
and you're on the other side.
You can throw your words sharper than a knife.
    And leave me cold
    in another house on fire.
    I lay low, lay low,
and I watch the bridges burn.
    I lay low, lay low,
What more could I have done?
Now you only bring me black roses
And they crumble into dust when they're held.
Now you only bring me black roses
    Under your spell.
She told me twice, all her good advice.
    But I couldn't see
I was clouded by your lies.
Up in smoke, a vision she foretold.
    She said stay away
'cause that boy's a warning sign.
    I lay low, lay low,
    and watch the bridges burn.
Now you only bring me black roses.
And they crumble into dust when they're held.
Now you only bring me black roses
    Under your spell.
And I'm done try'na be the one,
    Picking up the broken pieces.
And I'm done try'na be the one,
Who says I love you dear.
    But I'm leaving.
Now you only bring me black roses.
And they crumble into dust when they're held.
Now you only bring me black roses
But I'm not under your spell,
    I'm not under your spell,
    I'm not under your spell,
    I'm not under your spell,
    I'm not under your spell.
    Oooooooh, oooh

This woman could be the entire show. Since the day she first opened her mouth to sing, I was lost in her saucer eyes and bottomless soul. Her portrayal of Scarlett never ceases to amaze - and one often forgets that she's singing with a foreign accent on top of it all. Accolades to the writers of this song and Nashville, who never cease to plumb the depths of their characters, their ultimate virtue.

What a beautiful song, lyrics are so painful. Black roses being a metaphor for "pain". Sometimes pain can be distress with words , painful as physical abuses. The lyrics of this song are just right on point on that subject . Hope Clare Bowen or anyone else suffering that type of parental relationship find peace and the strength to forgive.

Truly addicting to listen to this song. Clare does reach somewhere deep in her interpretation of this. I had to look up what the symbolism of Black Roses is, because in this episode, it's the first time we hear anything about her "mom" - so don't know if that means the mother is dead literally, or if figuratively her "good girl" shell is the part that is dying - the shell she built to protect herself from her mother's illness (mental/alcoholism??). And am hoping the pills she's about to start popping don't get a refill.

    • @alexrichard90
      @alexrichard90 10 лет назад +3

It to me from what I understand is that her mother is a alcoholic. Somethings she said stuck me in the episode that I had to rewind it cuz I herd bits and started to cry. My mother is an alcoholic so I cried because I understood what she was staying, I left my mom and removed her from my life. I couldn't pick up the pieces anymore :(

realwhispa Alex Richard I feel you guys. Both my parents are functional alcoholics that emotionally and psychologically abused me for as long as I can remember. It's only been since I went to university abroad, managed to distance myself when I truly began to realise how much damage they did to me... and even though I'm in therapy, on medication... they refuse to admit how much they hurt me, making me feel like I wasn't worth anything... that I was worthless and didn't deserve to breathe, and owed them everything.
Thankfully I have close friends helping me through my depression, helping me be free and not be "under their spell". I just graduated with an amazing degree, and working my way so I never have to rely on them again, my friends even promising to help me should they come to try get me back. I hope you both are doing better... just remember that we're worth more and we need to learn to not rely on the people that hurt us like this.

Same with Londoners and some other Britons. Ever notice how certain Brits have an American southern accent sometimes too? (Elton John and Mick Jagger on some cuts.) Interesting.

    • @kaseyh4620
      @kaseyh4620 10 лет назад +1

It's because when you sing you use different vocal cords than when you talk. And when you talk with an accent it is only because your mind remembers talking in that way but when you sing it does not remember. I just looked that up a couple of days ago because I was wondering the same thing! :)

I listen to every song of hers, love her, perhaps too much. But on this song I can hear her voice has grown, it's richer, mellowed and I think she is really growing as a vocalist. Could she improve in any other way? I doubt it, she's so close to perfection, where would she improve? Her natural ease and casual, soulful sweet delivery would be hard to improve upon!!

I just need to accept what has been done and move on. What is done is done. I can not change what has happened with my mother. Its a new chapter in my life that I have yet to understand on how to deal with it %100 to the best of my abilities. She will not change and I am done picking up the pieces when the day comes that she needs me I question myself will I be there? Will you say sorry when the time comes? Having to accept your mom may not make it to 60 and having the conversation with family is not something I wish on anyone. If you have a drinking or drug problem get help the damage that is caused is just painful.

      Alex,
You may be amazed at what you'll find inside yourself when someone else's end comes... despite the pain that person has caused, you'll find compassion that you didn't know you had. I spent weeks helping when I could (in-home care, etc.), and I spent hours alone with my stepfather on Friday night before he passed the following Monday... just talking. We cleared up so many things between us. He could go peacefully, and I could carry on peacefully. I hope you see this so that you know it's possible.
      Blessings on you... and her.
