- On "My Car Story" we're at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, AZ on 1-13-17.
We're looking at a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in Grabber Orange Paint with a 428 Cobra Jet Engine.
We’re talking with the Owner Jack Scanlon. Jack’s had this car since 2010. Jack & Chris Ledgerwood have a Restoration Shop called Platinum Unlimited located in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. Jack & John have sourced parts and gone to extensive measures to make sure this car has all original parts. This car looks like it just came from the showroom floor and is brand new.
ENJOY!
This brings back memories, probably the absolute best styled Mustang ever. As beautiful today as it was the day it rolled off the assembly line. The slats were more common on the Boss 302 but look great on either model. The shaker scoop and 428 CJ just put it over the top, what a car.
You have great taste in cars :-)
Boy, that is beautiful. My favorite vintage of mustangs for sure. Sounds like they just as much time researching and finding NOS pieces as they did doing the actual work. Wonder how much this beautiful car went for at the auction.
Hi Kramden, Not sure what the car sold for, however I agree with you they spend a lot of time making this one like a brand new car. Fun guys and great car to share. I'm sure the new Owner is going to enjoy this one :-) Lou
My dad just got his 1970 Mach 1 back. He sold his old one for $5000 30 years ago. He had a 351c in grabber orange. New ones 428CJr

Hi BOSS HOGG, Glad you enjoyed this one :-) Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Having owned just about every year and model of classic mustang as well as restored these as a living for quite awhile its very easy to say that this car in the video was"IT" . Ford had reached the summit in the mustang line . They could have carried the model further by enhancing brakes and handling but as far as styling and power , 1970 was the year of the mustang .
This was the perfect blend of the smaller years (64-66) and the 67-68 with a skin that is simply timeless . Engine options were through the roof as well as paint codes . In fact , 1970 may have been Fords best year in many categories . NO other manufacturer really came close . There has always been a Ford/GM war but honestly and factually Mopar was next in line behind Ford as far as sheer power and styling . The Dodges and Plymouth's that this mustang had to fend off in the streets of 1970 were all great cars as well.
Of course I may be just a tad Biased , I am sitting in the garage typing this with two of my mustangs looking on. One of which is this cars twin aside from the manual trans. :)
Hi Kyle Van Tassel, Thank you for viewing, sharing your knowledge, and adding to the story by sharing details on your two cars. Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Fend off? Lol the first money street race i ever seen was a 69Mach1 428cj 4spd -vs- 70 340Cuda 4spd. Cuda for the win. The Cuda was the guys wife daily driver. You had to get thru the Cuda first before he dug into his garage and pulled out the A12 SuperBee or 68 Hemi GTX..
I get this alot however the street races ive seen were looking over the steering wheel. And a 340 cuda just wasnt fast . They were all decent cars that had ability for sure but Chrysler was always chasing a ford .
What was the result of that auction?$?

I see Chris Rohde shared the answer.
Hay Lou forgot to mention the shaker hoop scoop , but you know I thought the fog lamp were round shape.on that modle.
Hi Carlos Cardova, The shaker is a great feature. Regarding the lights I'm guessing with the effort put into the restoration, everything on this car is correct, Lou
I think this might be the mach 1 my step dad had and sold to them to a while back.
Hi B A, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is actually better than a new 1970 Mustang. The build quality of the original wasn’t nearly as good as this.
Hi Dave, Happy to read you enjoy the work to get this 1970 better then original :-) Lou
gracias y compartido
My Pleasure, Lou
ok my friend
As you already know I'm a Mopar guy. I'm not a Mustang guy so I'm not sure if the '69 had the same body style. I'm pretty sure Dennis had a '69. Boss 351. Shaker hood, rear window slats, 4 spd. . Back in the late '80s I would always tease him. Should of bought a Dodge. The ride afterwards was worth it. We never street raced, but I think he would of beat the 69 Coronet R/T. off the line.
Hi Al Cyr, Sounds like you're having a good time in the 1980's :-) Lou
I bet it would beat it off the line. Most cars could. By 60mph it was all over as the mighty B body Mopar marched by. I dont care what it was. It better have a big lead on a 440 magnum car before 60mph. The 440 magnum had a big end lunge that really didnt begin till the end of the first 1/8 mile. That last 8th mile is a Mopar tail light meet and greet. Get used to the view Brand X.
boss 351 came out in 1971.
This one sold for $99,000. Here's the link to the car feature - www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1970-FORD-MUSTANG-MACH-1-FASTBACK-201031
