Being an Uber driver in LA will make you hate it on another level, because you have to deal with the traffic and the people.
As a native Angelino, I can see that especially during rush hour which is getting longer and longer.
I did Uber too and it a actually made me like people. It totally changed my perception of most people.
There are a variety of kind, funny, interesting and friendly people I didn’t know were out there because I was really never out there.
@@ferrivera7159 I feel you. The traffic was horrible, but the people were way better than I expected. It taught me so much about people. It was great to make so many human connections. I even met my wife through Uber; I was her driver!
i drive Uber in L.A too, but i'm also from L.A so the traffic doesn't bother me....
@@toomworld, you guys remind me of a quote. May not be exact but something like "people suck but a person is usually alright".
Makes sense since, strip away all public persona/statuses, we're all just doing what we can on this absurd little journey called life...
The people born and raised in LA are great people BUT the people that keep moving there are FUCKED UP! #truth
So True! I just hate that L.A or California in general get a bad rep because of the transplants. I moved to Texas for college and I have had people get surprised I'm from California because I am a nice person. Many people think that everyone in California are shitty people.
@@ceceria860 I lived in LA for 4 months and met incredible people. Especially in Koreatown. The people who moved there were VERY fucked up!!! Very low morals and values.

S Lo yes!!!
Amen lmao
yup, the non wanna be famous natives are pretty cool though
LA is awesome!
Lmao
I was born, raised, and currently live in LA & you’re right. There are people here that suck and it’s a shame that my city has a bad reputation because of people who aren’t even from LA have made it that way. In my experience, true angelenos are very very nice, laid back, and caring. In my experience, I come across maybe one rude person for every 100 people I come in contact with. I’ve met some of the nicest people ever here.
Exactly. It’s the little youtubers and iNfLuEnCeRs who come here and make this place a shithole
Couldn’t agree more it’s sad that all these out of town RUclipsrs and influencers are giving us locals a bad rep
I often watch these first time ever in LA youtuber vlogs from vapid types that come to LA an fulfill the stereotypes. They go to all the same places and trendy places like pink walls, alfreds, urth caffe, melrose, sur, catch. Pretend or not like they just came off the Clueless movie with Alicia Silverstone talking like her. Coming from the SGV, I sometimes go to the westside and eye roll at these people. Not all, but where the hell are these people from? Cuz living here most of my life i have sheltered myself from these types by living away from that area. but then you go visit that part of LA and it is like being in an alien world.
As a fellow native Angelina, I totally agree with you 👍
"true angelenos" Get fucking real. People "from" LA are assholes too. And It's run by stupid liberals that love having homeless junkies in the street. LA's glory days are LONG GONE.
LA native by birth and bred here. Got an offer from Manhattan and will move to NYC in 3 months. I absolutely love living in LA but I can't wait to experience NYC.
Bill Chen NYC is the only city worse then LA in my experience. Cost of living is just as high except you don’t have access to the outdoors and the traffic is just as horrible.
@@dirtydinner2432 NYC is much better than LA. I mean who needs a car in NYC if the MTA has 26 lines easy to get around NYC, I live far from Manhattan but only takes me 35min to get to Midtown Pelham Bay Park -> 59St/Lex
Johnny M I just couldn’t imagine not having a car and being able to travel where ever I want. I’m not sacrificing my freedom to live in a cupboard in an overcrowded and polluted city.
@@dirtydinner2432 The area I live in only has 8k people and is more relaxed while still having the city feel not far from home.
Johnny M I live in a shack on the edge of the Panama Canal. I have been shot with poison darts from angry natives so many times that I am now immune to them. My neighbors want me dead but I wouldn’t trade this lifestyle for anything.
I missed this quality content! glad you're back
Thanks!
These things apply almost exclusively to the Westside/Hollywood/Downtown/Burbank areas. Between LAX and Long Beach there are plenty of normal neighborhoods and people, among other areas.
J Garcia South Bay is a bubble of realness
love the honesty - very relatable, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side
Thanks!
Especially on the east coast (and pacific northwest). It's literally green. Deep, beautiful, green. LA the grass was brown and crispy, and eventually disintegrated. To maintain that beautiful disintegration your LADWP bill was about $750/mo. 😋
@@DividedAsOne I was on a flight from Dallas to North Carolina. The guy beside me had never been on the east coast (he lived in LA). When we go to NC where you could see the lush green & trees he asked me "what is all of that???" hahahha he honestly had never seen anything like it he said lol
@@DividedAsOne L.A. is a mediterranean climate you bozo. None of us should have huge green lawns. It makes no sense. And I would gladly have brown grass than to deal with constant rain and/or snow.
@@stevenhillshow He must have been wondering where the city was. Please, SoCal has every climate. In 2-3 hours you could easily be in the mountains and you have pine trees as far as the eye can see. Same goes for the desert or the ocean. Not so much in NC and we don't have to deal with hurricanes either.
I love LA but I was born and raised here. It’s great! I love how different parts of the city are. You get DTLA, the beach, Hollywood, Pasadena, K-Town and there’s tons of events, premiers and concerts. Most of the people that I know that start to resent and dislike LA are people trying to get into the entertainment industry(which I’m not in). That’s the real problem. That’s when people confidence starts to drop and you see some of the crazy lengths people will go like plastic surgery and non stop “networking”. It’s a tough industry that some people are desperate to get into and there’s a lot of vultures hovering around that entry level.
It really depends on the people you hang out with. I am not surprised if you find shady and non friendly people in the entertainment industry. California overall is a beautiful state. We have beautiful national parks and beaches as well. I love SoCal because there's so much to do. I was born and raised in SoCal, but moved to Texas for college. I do plan on coming back here. Moving out of California made me appreciate her more and I miss it so much. Some people don't understand why I want to go back despite of being a high tax state.
Cecilia Yes I agree 100%! CA is so amazing! There is so much to do! Plus you don’t even have to live in LA! There are so many other cities and places to live in out here.
I agree with you! People think that LA is ONLY the entertainment business. LA is soo soo so much more. and you're right, the really bitter ones are the ones who can't break into the entertainment business...and then they go posting negative videos on our awesome city and give it a bad rap. I'm sick of that.
I think this is it in a nutshell. The LA that people actually live and work in is so different to the Hollywood/RUclips/Influencer LA. Do I know people in "the industry" sure but I know them from all the other normal yet interesting stuff I do like skating or knitting etc.
If you have a normal job you'll probably live a normal life here but with better weather. I moved here 20 years ago to live with my husband who grew up here and I've never felt 99% of what these youtubers complain about.
Natasha Estrada agreed! they’re young and foolish and bitter and they’re trying to be “youtubers” whatever that means. Maybe they should get an education and find a real job!
Honestly I’m proud of you for realizing that LA isn’t good for your happiness and taking action on that. I hope Seattle treats you well! :)
Let's get this straight. It's not L.A. she couldn't make it in. It was the entertainment industry in L.A. That's a very different animal, and it's only one small facet of the City of Angels.
I’ll go back LA someday. Some snobs in LA,but otherwise found people nice.
Unlikely....every place is what YOU make it. The city doesn't make you happy or unhappy. YOU make you happy or unhappy. She will be unhappy in Seattle as well.
@@theexmann That's true but it's really costly to live here
True, but Seattle has some uncomfortable problems as well.
I moved to LA to be an editor and dang everything you’ve said is true. Makes me miss Chicagoland.
Don't just miss it....hit the bricks!
I'm also from Chicagoland. I plan on staying here because you get the fast-paced hustle of the loop, but you can head to Lincoln Park and just relax. There's just something about being a Midwesterner that's so comforting and homey. I would love to visit California but I don't think I could live there.
Been watching your videos for a while -- love your QUALITY content and creativity! You can definitely tell that you put forth effort and genuine care when you create your videos. And I can completely feel you on why you left -- the older I get, the more I realize there is value in simplicity and just doing you. Great video. I currently reside in LA and have lived here 25+ years. It is super hyper competitive and people (some) can be a touch superficial. If you like that sort of thing great! But when I moved here from the Midwest, it was a difficult adjustment period. Obviously, I grew to love it....but it is not for everyone.
Love this. This is so real. We appreciate your honesty Monica!
Everyone has a place that they call home in their heart. For me it was the exact opposite. I lived in LA most of my life. I left LA for Dallas, but never really became comfortable there & moved back home to LA.
Dallas was not a good choice
Getting off the plane in LAX once, some dude said audibly, "Oh, L.A., you reality-checking b*tch." It was confirmed that I do not want to live in L.A.

You're not a potato, you're really beautiful :-)
Thanks :,)
I second that. Every time I watch Monica's video I say the same.

You two should date.
I’m so glad you made this video. I was the exact same way when I left Dallas to live in San Francisco in my early 20s. This was 10 years ago when the economy crashed, hard to believe its already been that long! I went with the goal of becoming a photographer while finishing art school there.
But I felt the same way after 3 years, wanted deeper friendships and found dating very difficult and shallow. So I moved back to Dallas, which has changed a lot over the years! This is now a booming city where it wasn’t really before and I love it. I’m 36 now, married and planning for a family. But I’m very thankful for the opportunity to experience SF, it just wasn’t for me long term.
Monica, you're literally a model!! omg it made me so sad that LA made you feel anything less than that... glad you got out! keep crushing it!!
I LOVE THIS video so much! I lived in LA for 6 months and it was EXACTLY how you described. It is so glamorized but nobody talks about how sad and fake it really is.
Great vid, Monica! Seriously. You have grown soo much and i'm proud of you!

"To be a storyteller, you have to be inspired by life"
Amen, Monica! I love your genuine philosophy on life 😃 GREAT quote.
Yes to everything you said! It is so true. I currently live here- since 2014!...wow how time flies! It’s been the same experience and now I too crave deeper friendships and a relationship- which seems very, very rare to achieve here. It’s taken me a while as well to leave because of some of the same reasons you mentioned. My need for change has become much bigger than my want to live here. With that said, I will be making the move soon.
To me this is oh so ironic because the vibe you got from LA was my impression of Seattle.
Definitely

Same. I visited Seattle a few weeks ago and people were really cold and unfriendly
Brittani Janee so bizarre
I'm not even kidding when I tell you this morning I had a break down, tears and all because I'm a junior in college and realized I didn't like my major. And am so back and forth between trying to decide what to do. Then I watch this video where you literally say it's ok not to know whether it's your major... like wow. I think I needed this video and somehow it fell in my lap at the perfect time.
Do not feel pressured to do what you think you have to do in life. Do not think of what others want you to do. Take a break if you need to. It may sound dumb, but write down what you are good at and live to do- research careers that fall with them and switch degrees/courses. You are in control of your life and what you want to do!
Everything you said is 100% true and good for you for getting out, I know a lot of people who have left LA and have amazing lives now!

I LOVE that even fairly mundane videos like this are still BEAUTIFUL FILMS 😍😍 your content inspires me so much. Also, I don't blaming you for leaving LA, it sounds quite hellish tbh

I have been living in LA for 2 months (I moved here for school). I knew from the beginning that this wouldn’t be where I would live long term... but I didn’t expect that I would already be over it. I love my school and my roommates, but when I graduate, I’ll be ready to leave.
Wow!! what don't you like about it?
Monica Church it’s a lot of the same things you mentioned in this video. I feel pretty trapped in the 6 block radius between me and campus since it is so hard to get around, I don’t really care for the people, and so on. I also don’t like that everything costs so much money. It’s virtually impossible to have a low-spend day if I leave my home. There is such a distant and superficial feel to life in LA, and while it can be fun here and there, I find it stressful and annoying most of the time. I think I like the idea of living in Irvine. My sister used to live there and it is close enough to enjoy the fun parts of LA, but far enough to not have to live the LA lifestyle.
Nikki Mirhosseyni Orange County is better then LA way cleaner too and less crime

I visited LA with high expectations coming from France and I was soooooo disappointed because i felt like it was really dirty, everything was far, everyone was so fake but now i feel like that's just really the vibe there. We're not made for that type of city and it's totally fine, I'll go back to the Bay where I feel the most at home
This is insane because i felt exactly the same way when i visited in Paris! I live in LA and I was thankful to live in a city with cultural diversity after my horrible experience in Paris. I felt most of French i met in Paris were racists and obnoxious/rude. I mean, i have many complaints about living in LA, but at least i felt respected as a human being? Or maybe my experience would be totally different if i were not an Asian or young female?

This video you made is so important for a lot of people to watch who are so feeling the same way and yet staying there out of fear of being a failure which is total nonsense.
Great job.
Did you ever consider moving to another part of Southern California like San Diego or OC?
OC is just like LA move to SD. So much better.
i was born and raised in san diego my whole life and i still live here almost 20 years later and i absolutely love it
I believe she lived in OC before..
It's about the people. Monica wants to surround herself with different people. She could have found it anywhere, but Seattle is where it feels right
I love San Diego so much--lived there the past 8 years. But the housing market is harsh and jobs are minimal. While it's cheaper than LA, it's still hard to live there for the average person. The growing homeless population has unfortunately crippled a lot of the downtown areas, as well.
I’m originally from Seattle, grew up in Houston and then moved to LA. I’ve had a similar experience and I’m not in the industry (just old fashioned advertising). Dating here is tough too. I understand where you’re coming from and I’m happy to hear you’re following your heart to where it is that makes you happy. I really resonate with a lot of what you shared. Cheers to you girl! 🥂 And thanks for a great video.
I love living in Seattle, but people do not drive "normally" here, and traffic here is often brutal lol :)
This was nice for me to hear. I move to LA from Seattle when I was 18 to become an Actress and It took me a year to accept that I didn't vibe with it and that was okay. I moved back home and now I'm 19 and thinking of moving to NY but trying to not put as much pressure on the idea that it has to be what I think it will be. 10/10 agreed with everything you said in this
*Thing is, not everybody makes it in the industry. That's why people get frustrated and end up hating L.A*
The thing is, LA fucking sucks and the majority of people who live there are assholes.
spicecrop just stay in the cornfield..
@@spicecrop people are assholes Everywhere DUH
@@spicecrop Bro u gonna keep spamming the page with your BS?!
Its ok that you're *BROKE* and cant handle it out here 😂
Yes our government and infrastructure sucks
@@NAT-turners-Revenge- So true LOL she was trying to keep up with old money, looks like her money ran out quick
Second generation native to LA. It wasn’t always so bad. Traffic is horrible now. I hate driving. Thank you for the honest video! Bravo!
I've been living in LA for 3 years and this is exactly how I feel. Well said.
Have you considered of living in another part of SoCal?
Leave you don’t belong here
Hey girl major love. It's not easy to admit something isn't working out for you, but I'm glad you followed your gut. Taking care of your mental health is so important. I hope you get and find what you're looking for in Seattle.
Sooo true..I am from NY but I moved 20 years ago to LA for business it was nice then.. now it's very hard. I lived as a single person for so many years so I moved back to NY.. CUT to met my husband in NY then moved back to LA. It's still different so we might move but it's a tough decision as to where. . I feel what you are sayin though. Good luck to you! You seem very smart you can soar wherever you are.
Moving back to Seattle after 5 years in San Diego - it will be hard in some ways, but it's the right thing to do....really needed to see this right now. Life is a journey, a series of episodes...you're not a failure!! It's just the next chapter :)
as someone who just moved to la, I can confirm all of these things and it sucks. The goal has always been Canada, so until then I’ll adapt I guess
Monica I was born in LA and recently left. The first thing u learn is the quality of life is so much better when u leave. Where I live, u can actually drive on the beach and not see anyone all day. In Santa Monica, I could not even find parking. The air is cleaner and it rains almost daily but stops so u can enjoy the rest of the day. In LA it did not rain at one time for 3yrs and the air was so thick and brown (smog), u could cut it with a knife. I am happy I left. I return every other month (Family & business) and cannot wait to get back on the plane. Nice presentation. U are good at what u do.
This place is a dump. I can't wait to get out of here.
Only if you lived in the Hollywood bubble. Other parts of the town are nice.
I have been really caught up too the past few years with the idea of being in LA but watching videos like this reminds me I should be content with where I am (currently NC) ❤️
