  • An impacted tooth refers to a tooth that is fully or partially trapped beneath the gum tissue and cannot properly erupt into the dental arch. Some impacted teeth, such as wisdom teeth, can simply be removed because they are not necessary for oral function. Canine teeth, however, are important for maintaining a healthy bite and must be guided into their proper positions.
An exposure and bonding procedure is performed to treat impacted canines and can benefit children, teenagers, and adults who have impacted teeth. After an orthodontist prepares the mouth with braces, we will expose the tooth and attach a bracket. Then, your orthodontist will use braces to pull the tooth into the dental arch and align it with the rest of your teeth. Our oral surgery experts work closely with your orthodontist to create a custom treatment plan for you or your child.
