"Suddenly you're ripped into being alive. And life is pain, and life is suffering, and life is horror, but my god you're alive and it's spectacular." -Joseph Campbell
Thank you Watsky. Your poetry and music has inspired me beyond words. Your ability to stay true to yourself regardless of how many views you get is unlike what many can say. I just wanted to thank you for your artistry because you have been a big inspiration to me. As a result, I decided to pursue my dream to start my own RUclips channel and begin to give back to the world by inspiring people to chase their dreams. Thanks again Watsky, your words are profound and they have resonated with me. Peace and stay true brother.
sadly because its not about money or women or drugs. its about life and the reality we live in, an a lot of people don't like to face something like that(just my opinion)
There's 7 billion 46 million people on the planet And most of us have the audacity to think we matter Hey, you hear the one about the comedian who croaked? Someone stabbed him in the heart, just a little poke But he keeled over 'cause he went into battle wearing chain mail made of jokes Hey, you hear the one about the screenwriter who passed away? He was giving elevator pitches and the elevator got stuck halfway He ended up eating smushed sandwiches they pushed through a crack in the door And repeating the same crappy screenplay idea about talking dogs 'til his last day Hey, you hear the one about the fisherman who passed? He didn't jump off that ledge He just stepped out into the air and pulled the ground up towards him really fast Like he was pitching a line and went fishing for concrete The earth is a drum and he's hitting it on beat The reason there's smog in Los Angeles is 'cause if we could see the stars If we could see the context of the universe in which we exist And we could see how small each one of us is Against the vastness of what we don't know No one would ever audition for a McDonalds commercial again And then where would we be? No frozen dinners and no TV And is that a world we want to text in? Either someone just microwaved popcorn Or I hear the sound of a thousand people pulling their heads out of their asses in rapid succession The people are hunched over in Boston They're starting app stores and screen printing companies in San Francisco They're grinning in Los Angeles like they've got fishhooks in the corners of their mouth But don't paint me like the good guy 'cause every time I write I get to choose the angle that you view me and select the nicest light You wouldn't respect me if you heard the typewriter chatter tap tap Tapping through my mind at night The same stupid tape loop of old sitcom dialogue And tattered memories of a girl I got to grind on in high school Filed carefully on rice paper My heart is a colored pencil But my brain is an eraser I don't want a real girl, I want to trace her from a catalogue Truth be told I'm unlikely to hold you down Cause my soul is a crowded subway train And people keep deciding to get on the next one that rolls through town I'm joining a false movement in San Francisco I'm frowning and hunched over in Boston I'm smiling in Los Angeles like I've got fishhooks in the corners of my mouth And I'm celebrating on weekends Because there are 7 billion 47 million people on the planet And I have the audacity to think I matter I know it's a lie but I prefer it to the alternative Because I've got a tourniquet tied at my elbow / I've got A blunt wrap filled with compliments and I'm burnin it You say to go to sleep but I been bouncing off my bedroom walls since I was hecka small We're every age at once and tucked inside ourselves like Russian nesting dolls My mother is an 8 year old girl My grandson is a 74 year old retiree whose kidneys just failed And that's the glue between me and you That's the screws and nails We live in a house made of each other And if that sounds strange that's because it is Someone please freeze time so I can run around turning everyone's pockets inside out And remember, you didn't see shit
To those who've just experienced the greatness of Watsky, welcome. However, I do need to point out a few things. This isn't 'new music' and it doesn't matter how you've found him. He's rather old for a performer (in terms of years with a stable career and fanbase who love him dearly), he's done free form poetry (check out 's is for lisp') for longer than he's made music. He's a human being who talks about his mistakes so we'll talk about our own. He's been therapy for many of us, when we just needed someone to listen to and remind us that it does get better - if you stop having so many expectations and enjoy the ride. Watsky isn't new, your experience with him is. It doesn't matter where you came from, you're here. So again, I say... welcome.
+Twiggy Morris I kind of get a little hipster "I listened to Watsky before you guys thought he was cool" vibe going on right here. Other than that, good comment.
Hunter Hughes I really dislike how, any time someone mentions they've been a fan of something for a long time, they automatically get called a hipster. Since when did being proud of the time you've devoted something become part of a subculture no one cares about?
+Twiggy Morris guess I have become jaded from people making comments like mine. I apologize. I have been a fan of watsky for a while now, myself. You've definitely given me another perspective to it, one I used to have. Thank you.
"Hey, you hear the one about the comedian who croaked? Someone stabbed him in the heart, just a little poke But he keeled over ‘cause he went into battle wearing chain mail made of jokes" Ah man. This song was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about Robin Williams. :( What a loss for this generation.
God, when he performed this live he put so much emotion and movement into it, it was amazing. I got goosebumbs just listening to this with the memory of it.
When you came to brisbane Australia in 2014 I think it was I saw you perform this twice once in the spoken word session and again during the concert with the band. I will forever remember your show at the sweat pool that was the Alhambra lounge. This song has helped me since I was a teenager to remember to believe that I matter even though im reminded constantly thats a lie. But your right I prefer it to the alternative ive got 2 gorgeous kids now that I need to ensure they smile more then me and not end up like the fishermen. Love your poetry watsky. Its kept me here all this time. And will continue to. Let's not even get me started on roses and conversations when my dad was having heart issues and cancer. Reapect.
It's like... I can listen to this a million times over an there's a new meaning each time... I wish this guy would get more credit for his work because damn.... That hit me hard...
Absolutely!! Don't know if it's my imagination or not, but I swear his voice breaks with emotion towards the end - "Someone please freeze time so I can run around turning everyone’s pockets inside out. And remember, you didn’t see shit."
I need someone to reply to this who genuinely got effected by this in a way like a arrow through the heart so I have hope in people for taking things to heart like this. I don’t know anyone else right now aside one person that can appreciate this like the beautiful art it is. I can’t imagine living a life where you’d never be touched by this but everyone else around me IS living that life.
I first watched this 3 years ago and I remember liking for the way it sounded and because i thought it was deep even though I only understood 2 lines. Now I'm listening to it and I'm suddenly understanding what it all means.
+Colby Jennison we need each other. Love each other instead of manipulate and use each other because the house we live in is made of ourselves. The more anger and resentment we create with our actions, the less amount of time we, as a species, will survive. When people choose ego over each other, it starts a cause and effect chain that leads to bad things EVERY SINGLE TIME. That's pretty much what the gist is (for me). Much love fellow universe citizen.
I've been a fan of watsky for years and his songs and poetry have never lost meaning depth or soul. I love him for all he is, mistakes and stupid actions included. he's accepted himself as imperfect that's what we should all take notes on, how to love our imperfection.
Not only is this my favorite right now from Watsky(even though everything is amazing) but the comments are great on this video too. My type of people. I saw him in New Orleans on the 24th of October and it was an amazing show, and I met him and he was pretty great. And his poetry is amazing. He did this one and part 1 of tiny glowing screens and I was amazed. So inspiring!!
I couldn't agree with you more, Mikayla. Every time I give this another listen I peruse through the comments...I'm pretty sure this is the only video on RUclips that hasn't been swarmed by trolls and the lowest denizens of the web. Would love to hit one of his shows...I envy you! :)
You'll be able to see him one day and be just as amazed as me haha. Its was absolutely great. And I can't wait wait until he writes and records new songs.
Holy... fucking shit man... I've heard this song a thousand times, and cried my eyes out to it before, but just now... Just now, I truly felt something. Something I've never felt before. Thank you so much Watsky. You create a link between my dead brother and myself. At least in my heart, you do...
life is one of the most profound, memorizing beautiful things our mysterious universe has created. When we adjust our perspective to the context of the universe, we see just how rare and beautiful it is to experience existence.... Just look how hard it is to find intelligent life, the odds are astronomical. Maybe life is just an random chemical reaction but hey, so is everything else in the Universe. There are 7 billion people on this earth and EVERY one of those precious lives matters.
This is something I heard years ago and had almost forgotten about, but it's honestly never meant more to me than it does now. Thanks Watsky, I really needed to hear this. Keep keeping it real.
Wow, I know the feeling. Every time I sit down to program, I wonder what I can do that hasn't already been done a thousand times before. But the only thing to do is something, anything, to learn and grow and gain a better vantage point. Maybe my purpose can be seen from up there.
tra brew i like the comedian line, but the mention of chainmail made of jokes bothers me because it's implied that the jokes are the problem. chainmail does not protect against stabbing so even if you had real chainmail and you got stabbed, you'd still get stabbed.
Josh Cummings i understand the line completely. my problem with it is the lack of understanding of terminology. most people seem to think that it will protect against ANYTHING, there are even some idiots i've known that think it's bullet proof.
ishouldplayzelda Idk about "bullet proof" but they can't make chain mail that blocks bullets, generally speaking? Call me an idiot, but that surprises me...lol
"You wouldn’t respect me if you heard the typewriter chatter tap tap Tapping through my mind at night" I connect to this line so much. It's amazing how well this is put together.
Once you take out the concept of music having to be correct the world is your instrument and you are unstoppable. music is what soothes you and makes you proud, it defines you and its a tiny part of your life that controls you. Music can be anything. So this IS music and it is one of the greatest thing I have EVER heard.
To be honest, I watch this every time I need to fill myself with emotions and understanding, that I'm not the fucking only person in the world and I will be forgotten quite soon after a pass off. Thanks for this video, George.
"Hey, you hear the one about the fisherman who passed? He didn't jump off that ledge he just stepped out into the air and pulled the ground up towards him really fast, like he was pitching a line and went fishing for concrete" This is by far the most influential video i have ever watched. This is insanely effective about today's world and I congratulate you Watsky!
"The reason there's smog in los Angeles is because if we could see the stars, if we could see the context of the universe in which we exist, and if we could see how small each one of us is against the vastness of what we don't know, no one would ever audition for a McDonald's commercial again." Freaking best line I've ever heard in any song. It hits home because it's true and when we hear it, we all know it.
Man, this song always hits me like a sonic brick between the eyes. So good! Still thanking the Epic Rap Battle guys for introducing me to this amazing artist.
simple? i get what your saying but most artist cant even comprehend what hes writing here. no "lean" or "laffy taffy" wheres the snap pop and lock dance? no offense to people who write that style of music but they dont have the brain capacity.
haha my favorite "don't tell em, don't tell em, don't tell em" its all they say! watsky speaks the truth! thats not a simple task, especially how society is now
Randy Loera i know this first hand, if only you could see my english class.... my teacher is a philosify teacher and if she asked what the meaning of live is most kids would say, internet, or shoes. its a sad sad generation. and here i am stuck in it, god forbid i do anthing original id be 'Weird'. weird is good, strange isnt.....
I play this song on repeat everyday when i have to focus on something because it always keeps me on topic and writing. such a powerful song and i love it!
"The reason there’s smog in Los Angeles is ‘cause if we could see the stars If we could see the context of the universe in which we exist And we could see how small each one of us is Against the vastness of what we don’t know No one would ever audition for a McDonald's commercial again And then where would we be?" Why do I feel this one just glancing over the recommended page
I thought this was going to be a actual song, and then when I heard it I was so shocked I forgot to breath. "Hey you hear about the guy that died from listeining to Watskys poetry because it was so fucking amazing"
Just saw George live in san francisco a week and a half ago, and he started the show with this. It really brought the energy into the building and had everyone cheering and speaking along. Absolutely legendary.
I didn't quite get the part where he wants to stop time and turn everyone's pockets inside out... Is that just the child in him wanting out, or is there a deeper meaning?
i think it essentially represents him wanting to be a kid again. to a simpler time when life wasn't so complicated and their was so much to worry about but eventually everyone has to grow up.
I think it means he wants to expose what is inside you, inside your pocket is a metaphor. What do you keep hidden from everyone else that is making you into the person you are. That is aa Jessie we all should deal with and there is a correlation between holding things in, not being open to allowing everyone else to feel what you feel, and depression and other mental illness

154 don't want to see anything outside their tiny glowing screen... I'm on one, and I'm as guilty as anyone else, but I understand, that this, is the most real shit, I have ever heard.
Damn, i remember when this came out... id stay up all night and listen to cardboard castles and linkin park... now im staying up all night again and reminescing on when times were harder... so glad i found watsky hes made my living hell of a life so much more... worthwhile
You know... I would actually really like to know why those people didn't like it... do they have actual criticisms to offer, or was it just not their preferred style of music?
Ryland Betario Thank you for telling us your opinion! I appreciate you letting us (or at least me, since I can't really speak for anyone else!) know why you didn't like it. :)

trilogy camp camp
Idk I guess we'll never know what would've happened if another sperm got their first... lol
this song takes me to a place that no other song has ever taken me, its really hard to explain
I know exactly what you're talking about
***** Slam poetry.
Austin Casper spoken word
Seth Myers That's debatable
It's slam poetry, what he does best. :)
Used this as my monologue in my Theatre class. Did pretty well.
Nyce
+FallingIntoBlack lel
Thinking about using this in prose at my forensics competition.
I did the same for a Theatre show.
I did it for public presentation.

Teddy Baldassarre Thanks for starting RUclips, I really like your videos!
Your channel seems Interesting, I'm going to follow!
Wow, 6 years later and almost half a million subs lol
Why isn't this insanely viral.
It was popcorn that you heard.
sadly because its not about money or women or drugs. its about life and the reality we live in, an a lot of people don't like to face something like that(just my opinion)
Randy Loera Sadly true Randy :c But, things will change. I know they will.
Randy Loera said very truly, our generation would give a life opertuinity to have 14 seconds of fame
yeah, this should totally be on Upworthy or something.
I hope he knows how many lives he changed with his work. We love you Watsky
to this day i never get fed up of this. it's just so powerful and emotional that it just summarizes so much about life in general.
i have the chills why couldn't i have discovered this sooner
Agreed.
In George Watsky fashion, be happy you discovered it at all :)
I wish I could rediscover Watsky for the first time, but his music gets better and better the more you grow as a person and the more you listen to him
Hard to believe this is 10 years old... Feeling so old.
This will always be peak George Watsky, spoken word , truly an amazing poet
7 years later and I've still never heard anything more beautiful and meaningful
one of the greatest songs, and at the same time... one of the greatest spoken word peoms - of ALL TIME.

Zandman 134 why not ? (:
Yupia why not use it if we have it ?
Yupia he saved us the effort, so yes, he is super cool and kind.
Tyler - awesome

bless your heart for saying what most have us have been thinking for the longest time.
this is my first time listening to him, and I just wanted to say thank you for the welcome, I'm so happy to have found this new experience

0:07 .... There's 7 billion 46 million people on the planet.
1:41 .... There's 7 billion 47 million people on the planet.
Watsky is beyond clever.
I have been listening to this song 11 years and it STILL brings tears to my eyes when listening
This trilogy of songs gets angrier for each song.
Sarah Norén I didn't like the third one, I liked it as a song but I didn't think it was good as part of this series
Listened to this song at least like 7 times and I can't shake the chills. :/
How am I just now hearing this beautiful piece of art??
This is genuinely one of the best poems I've ever heard, and im writing my own poetry now. Jesus.
"Hey, you hear the one about the comedian who croaked?
Someone stabbed him in the heart, just a little poke
But he keeled over ‘cause he went into battle wearing chain mail made of jokes"
Ah man. This song was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about Robin Williams. :(
What a loss for this generation.
I was thinking the exact same thing
***** Didn't Robin Williams hang himself?
***** ahh thanks.
Thanks, now I'm sad again
You know something that always makes me sad? He died on my birthday
God, when he performed this live he put so much emotion and movement into it, it was amazing. I got goosebumbs just listening to this with the memory of it.
shoutout to invisible Inc, the group that George was in before he became watsky
hes always been watsky, as that is his name. george watsky.
+Josh Brucks yeah, sorry about that. i meant before he was an independent artist
wasn't Invisible Inc after cardboard castles?
+Michael Gosling nope, it was back in 2007
Benny Forman oh, TIL.

How have only 1 million people listened to this? This is a work of art.
this is no work of art. this is a masterpiece that poets of old would become envious of.
It's like... I can listen to this a million times over an there's a new meaning each time... I wish this guy would get more credit for his work because damn.... That hit me hard...
One of the most powerful pieces of music I've ever heard.
Feels good coming back every once in a while
Everytime I listen to this song, by the end of it, my eyes are full of tears and my heart heavy
It is pure genius, I love it.
Same. Love it!
I visit this poem on the nights I feel most empty and lonely and It saves my life every time...
"Someone please freeze time, So I can run around turning everyones pockets inside out. And remember...you didn't see shit."
Every single time I hear this it gets deeper and deeper and MORE amazing
Fuckin' goosebumps every time man..
Absolutely!! Don't know if it's my imagination or not, but I swear his voice breaks with emotion towards the end - "Someone please freeze time so I can run around turning everyone’s pockets inside out. And remember, you didn’t see shit."

I'm here.
helps me every day. I have "We live in a house made of each other and if that sounds strange, that's because it is." beside my computer.
One of the best pieces of poetry I've ever heard
This is my favorite of all the tiny glowing screens.
Sends shivers down my spine
I first watched this 3 years ago and I remember liking for the way it sounded and because i thought it was deep even though I only understood 2 lines. Now I'm listening to it and I'm suddenly understanding what it all means.

Watsky deserves to be so much more known.
I find this really really deep, and like... very close to my own thoughts.
I know a fair amount of philosophy, this is deeper than most of it
I sat for 9 minutes contemplating what I just heard, and the only adjective I could think of describe this is awesome. Because it inspired awe.
I've been a fan of watsky for years and his songs and poetry have never lost meaning depth or soul. I love him for all he is, mistakes and stupid actions included. he's accepted himself as imperfect that's what we should all take notes on, how to love our imperfection.
This was amazing, thank you pandora
I know same
Samee
The first time heard this I teared up alittle.
Damn dude this was deep! I love how it has more of a poetic vibe to it rather than a rap song. Just a great piece dude. Much respect here!
I definitely agree with you. It's very different, i like it. Good if you need some motivation.
Real talk!
I completely agree
At least in my heart, you do...
i still get chill every time to this day.
life is one of the most profound, memorizing beautiful things our mysterious universe has created.
Samantha Bohn Oh I'd be honored! It's so fulfilling to think my words are appreciated. Thank you so much :) if it becomes a card, please let me see!
+Jesse Jacobs Would you care if i quoted you my good sir? that was beautiful.
Rune Greenfield Please do! I'd be honored!
Maybe my purpose can be seen from up there.
there is an art to this song i can’t fathom
00:58 Best line in any song ever.
I like the one about the fisher man
tra brew i like the comedian line, but the mention of chainmail made of jokes bothers me because it's implied that the jokes are the problem. chainmail does not protect against stabbing so even if you had real chainmail and you got stabbed, you'd still get stabbed.
ishouldplayzelda it implies that the comedian was insecure and used his jokes as a way to combat this
Josh Cummings i understand the line completely. my problem with it is the lack of understanding of terminology. most people seem to think that it will protect against ANYTHING, there are even some idiots i've known that think it's bullet proof.
ishouldplayzelda
Idk about "bullet proof" but they can't make chain mail that blocks bullets, generally speaking? Call me an idiot, but that surprises me...lol
.... there are no words to describe the awesome
when your drunk friend is getting deep and tell you to look this up😂
Literally @ me for the exact thing I just did get out of my bedroom window
im the drunk friend
A beautiful classic.
this gives me goosebumps.
"You wouldn’t respect me if you heard the typewriter chatter tap tap
Tapping through my mind at night"
I connect to this line so much. It's amazing how well this is put together.
Still my favorite watsky song ever. Thank you for creating this. Really helps me think.
Once you take out the concept of music having to be correct the world is your instrument and you are unstoppable. music is what soothes you and makes you proud, it defines you and its a tiny part of your life that controls you. Music can be anything. So this IS music and it is one of the greatest thing I have EVER heard.
This is poetry at its max! dammit can't stop listening to this piece of truth!
...oh..my...fucking...god... I have no words right now for the amount of truth that just poured out of this song...
To be honest, I watch this every time I need to fill myself with emotions and understanding, that I'm not the fucking only person in the world and I will be forgotten quite soon after a pass off. Thanks for this video, George.
Same-
Your unbelievable watsky your music is always awesome man, never stop
"Oh girl this boat is sinking.. there's no sea left for me." This music is from a Macklemore song lol. I love it.
geeze, this is one of the best spoken word i have ever heard..
When I listen to this, I feel like im listening to a modern day Gandhi or Confucius, its that amazing and inspirational.
"The reason there's smog in los Angeles is because if we could see the stars, if we could see the context of the universe in which we exist, and if we could see how small each one of us is against the vastness of what we don't know, no one would ever audition for a McDonald's commercial again."
Freaking best line I've ever heard in any song. It hits home because it's true and when we hear it, we all know it.
And then where would we be?
@@danwojtowicz3040No frozen dinners and no TV
Lyrics give me goose bumps real music good job watsky
Man, this song always hits me like a sonic brick between the eyes. So good! Still thanking the Epic Rap Battle guys for introducing me to this amazing artist.
Truly an old soul. I'm so glad that someone special introduced me to Watsky. I'm beyond impressed and touched. True talent.
this song has changed the way i think about thinking
Any rappers that hear this and still wanna call themselves the realist need to sit down. Watsky speaks the truth.
Dammit Watsky, you're making me question existence and that's the third time this week
i question it every night
gah for me it's the fifth this month
Totally Not Conner when you take a punch, don't you ever forget...
I think of these words everyday❤😢😊
wish more artists would keep it simple like this
simple? i get what your saying but most artist cant even comprehend what hes writing here. no "lean" or "laffy taffy" wheres the snap pop and lock dance? no offense to people who write that style of music but they dont have the brain capacity.
haha my favorite "don't tell em, don't tell em, don't tell em" its all they say! watsky speaks the truth! thats not a simple task, especially how society is now
Randy Loera i know this first hand, if only you could see my english class.... my teacher is a philosify teacher and if she asked what the meaning of live is most kids would say, internet, or shoes. its a sad sad generation. and here i am stuck in it, god forbid i do anthing original id be 'Weird'. weird is good, strange isnt.....
Damnit Watsky, the feels are coming
***** Your lisp is so damn cute. It's unique to you, and I love it. Also, this peice, it's so strong. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
since when does he have a lisp?
I play this song on repeat everyday when i have to focus on something because it always keeps me on topic and writing. such a powerful song and i love it!
this. is. beyond. beautiful. ♥
This is so deep
"The reason there’s smog in Los Angeles is ‘cause if we could see the stars
If we could see the context of the universe in which we exist
And we could see how small each one of us is
Against the vastness of what we don’t know
No one would ever audition for a McDonald's commercial again
And then where would we be?"
Why do I feel this one just glancing over the recommended page
This is timeless .
I thought this was going to be a actual song, and then when I heard it I was so shocked I forgot to breath. "Hey you hear about the guy that died from listeining to Watskys poetry because it was so fucking amazing"
We live in a house made of each other....fuckin beautiful
I'm using this as a poem in speech and debate 👌
Make sure to give credit to Watsky, he worked hard and stuff... plagiarism is bad.
Lexco. skittimations oh yeah dude. Definitely giving credit
I was going to do the same thing
Just saw George live in san francisco a week and a half ago, and he started the show with this. It really brought the energy into the building and had everyone cheering and speaking along. Absolutely legendary.
Bro, that's deep
I didn't quite get the part where he wants to stop time and turn everyone's pockets inside out... Is that just the child in him wanting out, or is there a deeper meaning?
i think it essentially represents him wanting to be a kid again. to a simpler time when life wasn't so complicated and their was so much to worry about but eventually everyone has to grow up.
Jack Lomas theft or snooping
I think it's saying he wants to make a difference in the world that people will notice even if its miniscule. I may be wrong however.
This is the second part of another of his works' and he wants to turn the pockets inside outside to rid the world of the tiny glowing screens
JUST IN CASE ANYONE NEEDED LYRICS... I KNOW I'M LATE, BUT HERE THEY ARE
There's 7 billion 46 million people on the planet and most of us have the audacity to think we matter
Hey, you hear the one about the comedian who croaked? someone stabbed him in the heart, just a little poke.
But he keeled over because he went into battle wearing chainmail made of jokes.
Hey, you hear the one about the screenwriter who passed away? He was giving elevator pitches in the elevator
Got stuck half way, he ended up eating smushed sandwiches they pushed through a crack in the door,
Repeating the same crappy screenplay idea about talking dogs till his last day.
Hey, you hear about the fishermen who passed? He didn't just off that ledge,
He just stepped out into the air and pulled the ground up towards him really fast,
Like he was pitching a line and went fishing for concrete;
The Earth is a drum, and he's hitting it on beat.
The reason there's smog in Los Angeles is cuz if we could see the stars,
If we could see the context of the universe in which we exist,
If we could see how small each one of us is, against the vastness of what we don't know,
no one would ever audition for a McDonald's commercial again;
And then where we would be, no frozen dinners and no TV, and is that a world we want to text in?
Either someone just microwaved popcorn,
or I hear the sound of a thousand people pulling their heads out of their asses in rapid succession.
The people are hunched over in Boston, they're starting app stores and screen printing companies in
San Francisco, they're grinning in Los Angeles like they got fish hooks in the corner of their mouths.
But don't paint me like the good guy cuz every time I write I get to choose the angle that you view me and
Select the nicest light, you wouldn't respect me if you heard the type-writer chatter tap-tap-tapping
Through my mind at night,
The same stupid tape of an old sitcom dialog and tattered memories of a girl I got to grind on in High School,
Filed carefully on rice paper.
My heart is a colored pencil but my brain is an eraser.
I don't want a real girl, I want a tracer from a catalog, truth be told I'm unlikely to hold you down
Cuz my soul is a crowded subway train and people keep deciding to get on the next one that rolls through town.
I'm joining a false movement in San Francisco, I'm frowning and hunched over in Boston, I'm smiling in Los Angeles
like I got fish hooks in the corners of my mouth and
I'm celebrating on weekends,
Because there's 7 billion, 47 million people on the planet and I have the audacity to think I matter,
I know it's a lie, but I prefer it to the alternative because I got a tourniquet tied on my elbow,
I got a blunt rep filled with compliments and I'm burning it.
You say got to sleep but I've been bouncing off my bedroom walls since I was hecka small,
Where every age at once it tucked inside ourselves like Russian Nesting Dolls, my mother
Is and 8-year-old girl and my grandson is a 74-year-old retiree who's kidneys just failed;
And that's the glue between me and you, that's the screws and nails.
We live in a house made of each other and if that sounds strange that's because it is.
Someone please freeze time so I can run around turning everyone's pockets inside out,
and remember...
You didn't see shit...
This song just rko'd my heart to the bottom of my chest
this song is fucking great why havent i saw it earlier
154 don't want to see anything outside their tiny glowing screen... I'm on one, and I'm as guilty as anyone else, but I understand, that this, is the most real shit, I have ever heard.
*****
Oi man I'm bloody worse than all of em', I could say at times.
Watsky's gotten really introspective lately, hasn't he O..O Well I guess if you consider 3 years "lately" which I do.
I was gonna comment about that, not very "lately" hahaha
Damn, i remember when this came out... id stay up all night and listen to cardboard castles and linkin park... now im staying up all night again and reminescing on when times were harder... so glad i found watsky hes made my living hell of a life so much more... worthwhile
I watched this on my tiny glowing screen...
we all did buddy, well all did, and thats what hes talking about.....so deep
161 people weren't listening.
You know... I would actually really like to know why those people didn't like it... do they have actual criticisms to offer, or was it just not their preferred style of music?
How do you decide if a song has a meaning or not? You don't know anything about Watsky's life...
Ryland Betario This isn't a song. This is spoken word poetry.
Ryland Betario (reply to first comment - no meaning) many say the same about the Bible...... guess its relative, my friend
Ryland Betario Thank you for telling us your opinion! I appreciate you letting us (or at least me, since I can't really speak for anyone else!) know why you didn't like it. :)
This song made me feel ok about my imperfections.
this gave me goosebumps, Watsky is one in a generation
