I was there, some of y best memories as a kid were on this ground supporting Wigan.
So many greats in that pitch that day, from both sides.

Remember being there on the day. Thought we would hammer stains like 1989, but they put up a strong performance and it took a bit of magic from King Ellery to beat them at the end.

Was in the stretford end. Soon as Hanley got the ball I started to walk out. I was 15. Was gutted at the time but pleasure to see him play. Amazing player. Pretty sure it wasn't a semi too 😕

It was a semi, hence the neutral venue. Great game though.

St Helens and Wigan are both coal towns traditionally and St Helens is in Merseyside which makes them Scousers. Ellery is the greatest.

Wrong. Just because they are in Merseyside is doesn't make them Scousers. Wirral and Southport is in Merseyside and they aren't Scousers either. Only people born and brought up in Liverpool are Scousers. We don't call St Helens people fellow Scousers as they are all Woolybacks. Going off your spin on things all you Wiganers are Mancs then as you lot come under Greater Manchester.
