- Time for another session on the Porsche 356! In the previous episode, we stripped out all of the interior components of the car. Today, we focus on the doors, and discover a few more surprises...
This Porsche is a huge restoration project, but as far as classic cars go, it's my all-time dream car. I've always loved air-cooled VWs and Porsches, and I can't wait to drive it!

Everyone needs an Honest Jon! What a great friend and the perfect person to help with the 356 project. Good stuff Dom.
He is definitely handy to have around!
Dom and Jon I could watch you for the rest of my life xxxxx
Jon has a fantastic attitude well done lads
Oh don’t tell him that.. haha!
@@DominicChineas lock him in the garage till it’s finished, cracking car and it looks like everything isn’t straightforward ,good luck with this one 🤞
I am really more of a motorcycle than car lover but this restoration has really got me watching! Between you and Allen Millyard entertaining me, I should cancel the Sky contract and bin the telly! Thanks again Dom.
I can recommend furious driving as well, he's working on various interesting projects.
Another great episode, Dom. I’m loving this restoration. Also, the new television show is amazing. What you are doing for all these crafts is superb. You’re a true ambassador for all the hand manufacturing and repair skills. You need a huge pat on the back. The new show gives us lesser morals great encouragement as your enthusiasm for these skills is second to none.
Thanks so much, I really do appreciate the positive Comments, I am very proud of the show and everybody involved in creating it
The new make it to market is inspiring and so interesting. Thanks for all your brilliant input Dom
That’s great to hear thank you!
Really enjoied this episode of the build, crack on with project and John will use his extensive knowledge to help you get it finished.
The amount of work is mind boggling 😮
It’s a bit scary isn’t it…
Yep, me and my work collegues are hooked on Make it to Market - I want to get into crafts and take a modern classic car thats ready for salvage and cut in half to make a juke box or beer fridge + seperate engine coffee table, car seat chairs etc - Would love it if your producers would do a series on just upcycling called "upcycling to market"
Can't believe how happy I was when the door fit in the opening! Can't wait to see what happens next. Hope we really don't have to wait five more years to see the finished door go back on!
Having been watching Make it to Market I am thinking about doing my own Business. I hope there will be a 2nd series of it.
Another great episode Dom. Please be careful when sanding leaded parts. You do not want to be inhaling that. Make sure you have a proper respirator not just one of those paper jobs. Also be really careful with the dust, don’t sweep it, vacuum it.
And get extra hose and put the vac outside.
Dom, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in Sept. 2021.Regarding your 6 year completion date, I don't think I have that much time. But I will try.
Thanks for keeping my mind active from my issues.
Lowell from Canada
Hang in there Lowell! From England.
I am so sorry to hear that, I wish you all the best, and I hope you get to see many more episodes, thank you
Love Make it at Market. Enjoying seeing the super-skilled people going onto sell their work. I really hope they make a living out of it.
Thank you I really appreciate that, there is another week left!
Great watch as always. I've felt bad seeing you be bummed about having to cut so much off, but seeing your joy about the matching doors was really nice. Can't wait to watch the next episode!
Hi Dom, already bought from Sarah Brabbin who was on Make it at Market, within 2 days my little owls that id bought from her had arrived and she was so helpful and friendly, hope to buy more from her, its a brilliant show, great idea. Honest John is a tonic, I love your friendship, look forward to the videos every Sunday 👍
That’s great to hear, thank you for supporting the makers
@@DominicChineas what a lovely lady, so helpful and looking forward to buying more from her, would never had known about her if it wasn't for you and Make it at Market 👍
Loving the restoration, first drive of the 356 " Make it to Margate" the Road Trip
Think Make it and Market is brilliant Dom. Being a Jeweller by trade it's great to see new folks using their skills to start a business 👍. That Porsche is a huge job, will follow the restoration with interest
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy the new show, I appreciate it
Hello Dom . My goodness ! Not for the faint hearted ! I did a major rebuild on a 912 . Put a complete front end on including the bulkhead . It had a terrible previous repair and the left inner sill was creased about 18 inches back from the bulkhead . With no jig l plumb dropped the car and once finished it was only 4mm out from diagonal front to back. And l also did extensive rust repairs on a 911 T and fabricated all the repair sections . It taught me a lot about fabricating . This was back in the early 1980's . Cheers !
I love the discovery aspect of a dismantle on the project. Finding original bits, and lots of surprises. You've got a good resource in Jon!
You’re a brave fella taking that on, good luck🏴👍
I like Johns approach, brilliant.
Brilliant, you two, just BRILLIANT. Thank you....😎😎🤠
Thank you!!!
Dom, thank you very much to share your restauration, very interesting ! Full of détails! Hope that Jon won't miss too much actions ! 😁
Can Jon make a brew, that's the sign of a true mate ha'ha'. Enjoying the progress I enjoyed the glass blowing episode, Always wanted to give it a try.
As a suggestion , leave all doors on so you can check the alignment at all time while rebuilding what is necessary , if you need to have the doors off for any reason or inners repairs , make sure to weld bars across the aperture before taking the doors off and check again ,as far as the back section make sure to have a good pattern of the rear window prior to take any inner panels off so you can check the window opening if it has dropped or got out of square , it also would pay to have a support between the floor and the roof to make sure that it does not drop the roof line or the angle of the panel between the rear window and the boot lid , some goes for the front bonnet opening etc .I have done a few of those 356 and they are a pain in the a**e if not supported properly . Once the whole body is done and welded together do the doors frame and skins last . All I can say is GOOD LUCK........ PS the last 356 that I complete rebuilt doe to rust and very bad repairs, it took (after striping the body from all parts) around 1,650 hours from start to finish .
Your Make It To Market show is extremely interesting, watching those hopefuls make their own things, being talked to by mentors on how to improve. Truly inspiring and a must watch show…..being a maker of stuff myself. Good on you Dom.
Insanely impressive what you can do Dom! As much as a mental challenge as a physical one!
Good stuff Dom that motor will be superb when your finished, but wow what a task before then. Thank you for keeping us entertained in all you do. Love the new show hope the BBC commission another series.
You are truly inspiring Dom.
Thought that was a mouse🐁 when you took the first door card off
John is a card 885😂
Hope you don’t get demoralised from all the rust at every stage
Keep on keeping on 👍
B pillar👍🏻
Hi Dom. The new program is excellent very talented people & the repair shop as always perfect.
Good to watch you & John taking the car apart again.
Take care.
Hay Dom I really like your 356 Restoration You Tube show.I used to have a 356 B. Cab. 1961 I miss greatly Thanks for bringing back Memorizes!!! Brent Gordon of Canada.🙄🤟
Thank you! Next week is a good one, I hope you’ll stick around for it
Love the 356 tear down and restoration- thank you!!
Dom, This channel is getting better and better!!! Dream car and dream build. Always love your content!
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much
Dom love this restoration and the way involve others, this is one of my favourite channels on RUclips!! Your new show on the Tele is a breath of fresh air, when they come on at the start they seem quite shy or nervous, but to see them grow in confidence and the smiles they have on there faces at the end is breathtaking. Well done and thankyou!!!!!!
Yeah Jon is right “you’re mad” 😂
But that hasn’t stopped many a genius. Not saying you’re not a genius Dom, I’m just saying “ YOU’RE MAD 😂✌️🇬🇧
Currently puts me in mind of the circus - keep going, but keep a bucket of confetti to hand!
Great video, love it when John gets involved, 👍👍👍.
Love the constructive criticism coupled with approval and/or praise in “Make it at Market”. Great show and worth watching.
Really wondering where you will end up with Porsche but also want to see the restored Zippo in its own vlog! 👍👏
Great progress Dom . . . well done.
I love these videos! I had a chance to buy a 356 in around 1992 for $1500 but shied away bc someone told me it was full of bondo 🤦🏻♂️. I need a Time Machine lol
Love this series Dom. Looking forward to more of your adventure with this car
Thank you, the next episode is a scary one, cutting lots of rust out!
@@DominicChineas I hear ya. My 68 Shelby was a nightmare of rust
Brilliant. Jon always laughs when he moans... what a star. And Dom emerges from a cloud of dust to continue with the Porche detective work 884 / 04.1957, colours and welding jobs. Keep up the good (great) work.
Wish we could see your new show here in the US. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the wheeling machines, and the Porsche; can't wait to see the whole car media blasted
I think make it at market will be on britbox soon if that helps?
Lovely video Dom and I shudder to think if you dipped the dipped the body what ever would be left. You are on an epic journey and the end will certainly justify the efforts. Well done lad. Looking forward to the next installment in resurrection of this lovely car. Cheers mate!
It’s going to be blasted in a week or so so stay tuned to find out haha
Dom John lovely work, take your time and enjoy the build as much as I am ❤️
Thank you, really appreciate it
Hey Dom! Tell the powers-that-be that we miss Repair Shop in the US, and would also love to see Make-it at Market ! Alas, we only have RUclips.
Sorry that’s way out of my control!!
Honest Jon, diamond geezer.
New Show is Brilliant
Thank you
Getting there Dom enjoying the restoration and "Make it at market" what you all are doing for the craftspeople is outstanding
Got your book for Xmas (thanks Mum) been playing toolbox bingo! Make it to Market is great and inspirational!
Thank you!
Exciting to see it coming along. I love those cars so this is very satisfying.
It will be better once we are welding new panels in!
Thanks for the video Dom, things seem to be going well and the door fit seems manageable.👍👍
I am so pleased that the doors fit, I was worried with the rear end damage but it seems all good
The A pillar is the one at the front at the side of the windscreen.
Make it at Market - what brilliant idea, and good to see your presenting chops in your own series. I especially like the balance between the craft and the people. It’s addictive. Congratulations! And more please.
Great job Dom and John!
I am thoroughly enjoying these videos. Thank you for sharing 🌞
Keep it coming Don, great to watch this restoration and I will stay watching until it is finished😊
Am I the only one who thinks you look a lot like Jimmy Broadbent? 😂 Love your content.
Totally admire your and Jon’s commitment Dom. such a wealth of knowledge between you. Loving Make it at Market. Such talented people, great to see them getting their craft out there. Hope we get a second series showing different skills. Good luck with the Porsche 😊
Hi Dom and Jon, another great episode. I wouldn't be surprised if that rust at the top of the B post just wasn't there when the lower section was repaired 🤔.
Loving Made it at Margate! Very well produced, with some really talented makers. Uplifting viewing! 🤗
Cheers, Martin.
I’ve been following this project with interest Dom, and wow this is extreme engineering on this 356. You have a good man in your friend John, and like you we’re on a journey with you. Understandably your channel isn’t all about the 356, it’s about all your projects; new content keeps things fresh!
Oh by the way, your tools book is an interesting read, like it a lot…👍🏻
We all have that mate who likes the gas axe 😊, great episode Dom & John 👍
Rig up a pulley / block and tackle to get stuff up onto the shelving Dom.
Always fun watching the Dom and John show, a great video and real progress. Well done, kind regards, Richard.
Great video. Make it to Market is an amazing program. I am lucky enough to have left behind my career of 35 years to restore original Irish Phoneboxes and manufacture exact replicas. I have restored a couple of English Phoneboxes(K6) as well. It’s great to see the support and mentoring the craftiest are getting. Keep up the good work Dom. I’m loving the progress on the Porsche
Really like the new show Dom, it's great to see these artists being given a leg up to follow their dreams. Will there be another show in 12 months or so to catch up with them and see how their businesses are progressing?
Absolutely love this project! So interesting seeing it past unfold and the great future it is going to have 🎉
Glad you are finally into this in anger! I wish I could binge watch all the episodes going forward. I thought about waiting till the end of the month and watching a few back to back, but every time I see a new one pop up I just can’t resist looking at it! I love ‘em…. Anyway, keep ‘em all coming… a daunting project but step by step will get you there - that plus a wodge of cash. Unfortunately I can’t watch Make it at Market as I’m in Canada 🇨🇦.
Just keep going as you are…. Love these Porsche vidz … 😁👍🏻
Good episode Dom, thank you. Also loving Made it at Margate 🤣 (and the humour, Jon). I hope there’s a second series of that planned. When I think of the cars I’ve cut up, that now would be thought “classics”.. Morris Minor, Mk2 Escort, Cortina Mk 2.. all went under the angle-grinder... you could have fixed them.. two of them were runners! Oh well, water (or cars) under the bridge! Les
I'm watching and enjoying this with great interest!
I've got 1960 356 myself that needs some door repairs so will be using this as motivation. I wish I had an honest Jon to help though!
Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your journey!
Loving the restoration with the Porsche, team work makes the dream work. Congratulations on the Make it to Market another enjoyable program seeing other hidden skills in the country.
Jon is awesome, I like Jon.
That’s good, I like him too..
Great episode, thanks.
Dom, Interesting adventure...Would you like to see some photos of a "finished" resto of a 356.? I spotted one for sale when on holiday in Cape Town last November.
Intriguing to see you getting through the layers of the Porsche and uncovering its history. You’re a ‘carchaeologist’ (you can have that one…) 😁
Love it thanks haha
Great to see some original panels still left in it. I swear Johns hat gets longer every week
As his hair grows the hat grows with it haha
Great to watch Dom and good reference for work on my BT5.. keep it up pal quality
So fun to See u with the Restauration. I got my 356 t 5 1600 to be done. I use your Videos as a blueprint if you dont mind :)
Hi Dom, I discovered your channel last September and it really takes me back to sitting in my dad's workshop as a child and watching him tinker (although we never had a porsche!!).
Make it at market is excellent, you have given me itchy fingers to try a new craft ( crochet , I might have managed a scarf by next christmas!)
By the way, I've been working my way through your vids and I'm desperate to know what happened to the little red biplane, it was on the coffee landy bonnet.
You have to drink every time Jon says that a part cannot be reused!
Nice one, another Porsche episode!! Been Looking forward to this . Make it at market is a marvel .
Thank you, I’m glad you like the new show, appreciate it
Great video. Wish I had a friend as handy as Honest Jon to help with a resto!
It's so wonderfuly relaxing to watch your videos. You guys are so positive working this project, it's heart warming!
Really have enjoyed your channel and how it has developed from the start.. also loving making it at market, the mix of old and new crafts and seeing the makers develop is great. Also good to hear the wee "since leaving" updates at the end, sincerely hope there will be more to come after this season..
I hope there will be another season, it’s been so fun working on it helping the craftspeople has been brilliant
Hi Dom, great to see this episode. Nothing beats a true friend. It truly inspires to keep working on my '50 split. Guess you know simonsen356 panels for body parts. Enjoy the time. J.
Great job it will be worth it in the end well done dom johns awesome
Loving watching this Porsche build coming along. Very cool. Really enjoying Make it at Market too. I love woodturning, and have always been tempted by markets, and this show is definitely pushing me in that direction!
Brilliant, love the new show too
Am loving the new show Dom, the people coming onto the show are really relented already. Think so far I have 3 favourites, but others will no doubt have more or different ones. But sticking my neck out they are the lady that was willow weaving the animals, the guy who's a stone mason, he carved the cat on a plinth and lastly the 2nd glass lady. But Like I said they are all brilliant.
Oh I can never have my favourites haha!
I’m glad your enjoying it though, wait for the next weeks episodes, some more super talented makers
Dom I thought the new shows concept was great, really interesting to see the difference with a knowledgeable person assisting the craftsmen with their business development.
Great update guys, well done! Loving these Porsche videos.
Thank you! Next week is even better!
I’m loving this!
That makes 2 of us!
Keep going, this is great to watch.
B-Pillar, Dom. A-pillar is the windscreen surround upright, C-pillar is the rear screen surround. on a 2-door coupe.
Sorry I’ve never been good with the alphabet haha
Same on any car not just a 2 door coupe. On a 4 door, Front pillar drivers door hinges off, A post. Centre pillar rear door hinges off, B post. C post is where the rear quarter fastens.
Excellent stuff. It's almost like vehicle archeology. Make it at market is a great show, my wife and I love it. 😎👍🛠
Loveing the new show.
