Why am I only finding you guys 4 years after this was released!? I’ve been watching servo/stepper videos for over a decade and this is this is finally in my feed.
I’m finally using a teknic in one of my projects, so the algorithm must think me worthy at last…
I'll second the customer support. Has been fantastic and very helpful.
One moar vote for the shirts. XL, as long as they're not hipster fit.
In a future build will you think about a plasma table build? Then you can cut a metal unicorn with all the hard work.
Definitely on our list
I think that's a good idea. That would be a really useful and straight forward build, the problem with plasma tables is space. They just kinda sit there taking up a lot of room.
@@PhysicsAnonymous Shave your cat, it's gross.
Instructions unclear. Shop is full of llamas.
servos for a dovetail machine, perfect combination👍🏿👍🏿
is the metal unicorn song something you guys made, or is it something i can listen to on spotify when i need to feel motivated?
roots - no synths
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the login password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Braylen Jefferson Instablaster =)
The cat seemed to be waiting for a pop-up clown. But it never came.
Cat has seen enough
Cat looks ready to pounce on it and claim it as a napping spot
Spinny Spins, puppys, cats.... In short get a cat because they tick the bears and lamas box. Jon will make sure you have the right cat with the right lama legs
The puppy description is perfect!
Loving this channel. Rock on DMU.
“It's koala mixed with rattlesnake, chimpanzee, cactus, shark, golden retriever, and just a smidge of dinosaur. Should add up to normal humanity. “
Success 🤘what's up guys? Great video as always! 🦄
what is the metal unicorn's theme song? is it original?
also sign me up for a XL unicorn shirt!
roots - no synths
The unicorn needs a PA tat(oo)!...right on the rump :-D :-D
DMM tech are AC servos. I believe they are made in Canada. Very good customer service and the cost is also not a lot more than servos.
That is one concerned kitty
Honestly that first bit was funny, love this video style guys!
Metal Unicorn for President 2020! I'd buy one, Size M
Thumbs up for the cat @5:55
SOLD! I'll take a large metal unicorn tee or hoodie!
Also, how about t-shirts with pockets?
Me... Drools...
Thanks to quarantine that led me to this channel!
Amazingly interesting!
Keep up the good work!!
Love the unicorn shirt idea. Large
I'd really like to use Clearpath servos for my projects - they seem a really nicely integrated system. Unfortunately they want to charge a decent fraction of the motor's price for shipping to Australia :(
Hi Damien,
Teknic recently negotiated better shipping rates, but we agree that international shipping prices charged by FedEx (without any mark-up by Teknic) can be pretty high depending on the country. We'll keep looking into lower cost international shipping options and directly pass any savings on to our customers.
Erik M - Teknic Servo Systems Engineer
@@TeknicInc It would be cool just to have a distributor down here.
Same but I went with a hybrid, integrated stepper motor instead. Much cheaper and includes some advantages of a full servo motor.
I don't usually buy merch, but I think I could compromise for the death metal unicorn.
Also, can we call agree there needs to be a death metal unicorn emoji? 🦄just doesn't cut it.
I assume you will have to recalibrate the Z axis after adding the weight of the head back?
Yup, we have been through the tuning process a few times as we keep adding stuff to the head. It's not too picky with a few pounds here and there though. But the tunning is so easy, we end up doing it more often the we probably need to.
Had the same question/observation watching the video, then the comment about the correct Z-axis motor came up and PA's answer below also confirms that they know that drive tuning should be done with the weight (head) applied to that axis.
Cool channel Physics Anonymous... Subbed!
GLORIOUS!! it moves!
I heard llama's and now all I can think of is, "Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail"
Counter weight engineering required? The funny thing is, I could sense the giddy feelings of success even with time delay. How exciting! And the outro was classically funny. Grand slam all around. :)
Yes for Death Metal Unicorn t-shirts. Need a 3X here. Momma raised a big boy.
Greetings from Argentina. Good video
You guys must have really got a deal on those motors as they are about 10x as expensive as the steppers I plan to go with. Hardly similar in price.
Steppers with a good driver are about $160 to $200 per axes with China part. If you go with Gecko driver ,which are vary nice, you will be around $225. The X and Y CP are $400. They are a first rate product made in USA with a better encoder than most others use.
I am working with a few import steppers and driver now. I was having problems with the tuning on the driver so I asked for the tuning software. They did send it to me, too bad it's in Chinese.
Sounds like Teknic deserves checking out. I have quite the stockpile of machine tool building components. So generally, I will try to get away with using whatever I have on hand to build or upgrade machines or systems in my home shop. Sometimes I have to reach out to support from from which ever company's devices I am working with at the time to assure compatibility. Some support teams only have their product specific breadth of knowledge, and are sometimes unfamiliar or unwilling to help with anything outside the scope of their particular product. Up to this point, I have found good motion control support, but not anything I would call stellar. So I will definitely be looking into their motors!
As I said before, I have tons of machine building components. Some items I think you could use also. DM me, with a few specifics, and Ill send a care pkg. OH yeah, +1 Death Corn XL Shirt!
Yes to the t shirt idea. XL
Thought of something. Perhaps a carefully selected gas piston would counter-balance the head. Just something to consider.
large and i would buy it! love the work your doing i know how hard it is to complete projects and i am not even recording them!
Sees video on recommended, posted 50 seconds ago. Well, looks like i know what i'm doing.
One XL shirt would be nice) Also just started to dabble into CNC machines a little bit (now modifying and learning to operate 3m x 1.5m plasma table) - that stuff is super fun!
Definitely shirts and hoodies, 3xl
So how much did these cost?
make sure when going to computer control...install a back.up power supply..or when you shutdown lose parimeters
Love the outro, still too short.
I know what I want to see you make next. You both went to art school. I want to see you make your own metal unicorn.
question: why would i use servos when i can use closed loop (hybrid) steppers?
I think you have that question the wrong way. Servos are much more powerful for the size, are silent, and have much higher speeds without losing torque.
Have you tried to use servo for machine spindle
Also, definitely want the death metal unicorn shirt in Medium or Small for sure
Just noticed, cant see a cooling fan in your control box. Doesn't it get a bit warm ?
Good to see the cat is back and helping out.
I noticed you are using an ethernet smooth stepper. I have a similar set up with an ESS, C62 BOB from cnc4pc and clearpath motors. My clearpath motors are wired using the c34cp adapter to a RJ45. For some reason i cannot enable the motors. I keep getting an error on my Break out board. Did you guys have any issues?
LEGENDS!
Clearpath servos are amazing. They are inexpensive (for servos) and so easy to work with, and don't mess with your electrical cabinet. I just don't get why most DIY CNCers prefer DMM. Is that because of the industrial look ? My only regret as far as Clearpaths go is that you only have one feedback line which you MUST use for fault. I would appreciate a couple more for index, homing, ...
Yes! Shirt! Please! Black! M(European)! Metal AF!
I totally want that shirt in XL
Really think you should mention stepper with encoder isnt much more expensive then without
need that shirt! large
Watched Metal Unicorn 3 times because,,,, Unicorn and Metal and Machining. Great Stuffs. Unicorn needs a PA brand, and make the "T's" you will sell them all.
2XL unicorn shirt for sure
Hallo, which controllboard did you use?
Would love an XL shirt, as long as it's long
I see you are one of the few that have this "xsy at1" VFD
Can You Pleeasee tell me how to controll it over wire?
I don't even like print t-shirts anymore. But I need that unicorn in Large.
Do you have a safety brake on the Z-axis? With a ball-screw supporting the whole spindle, it could easily fall if power fails. Or does the Z-axis just have that much friction?
YOU MUST MAKE DEATH METAL UNICORN SHIRTS!!!!!! Ill take one in 4xl if possible. Love your videos!
Death Metal Unicorn T-Shirt! XXL!
Please make the death metal unicorn tshirts, XL and in black. I would proudly wear that during my flight lessons and flight school courses.
I would like several death metal unicorn t-shirts
Would love a 2XL-Tall T-shirt (grey would make a good background)
Holy fu*k I made it to the video :O
Have you guys listened to Babymetal??? You gotta check them out.
i cant follow whats goin on anymore , are we still on a grinder build or is it a cnc mill now or are we resurfacing a lathe bed. I got lost somewhere along the way and im just sitting here like oohh cool machines, shiny metal 😋
Stepper Motors can have ABSOLUTE and INCREMENTAL ENCODERS too.
Why the denegration ... ??
WWWWHHHHHYYYYYYYY ????
Ryan is nuts! Please make me a large metal unicorn shirt!
Let me get on that shart train. XL
What size was the original z axis motor used what did u upgrade it tooo
Hi, I'd like a unicorn shirt. My body type doesn't fit traditional sizes, so please print it on one of those tents they use when they fumigate houses.
Adding to the death metal unicorn t-shirt noise! Large plz
After a year can you update your assessment of the clearpath servos ? Are your particular servo sizes adequate, what kind of rapids and feed rates are you able to run reliably.... etc, etc :-) and thanks for your videos, I have a PM940 myself and am considering ditching the DMM DYN4 for Clearpath.
2XL on the shirt!!
Nema 34.
Not big 'nuff. Want to chooch more spinny spin.
Masso G3 Touch.
Cnc Mill retrofit.
7.5HP cat 40 spindle.
20x16 table need to go zoom zoom 600ipm.
What to use?
LOL!🤣
I would buy a medium shirt!
3x unicorn shirt. With a pocket.
What controllers do they work with. UC300ET?
I would order two one medium and one large
this was overly marketing video
Please share your experience with that cheap Chinese VFD. XSY-AT1? Mine runs my motor hot in a short amount of time but it could be my motor not the VFD.
Unicorn++
XL shirts!
What a horrible video. Bears, llamas etc, you didn’t even talk about interface or control board🙄
The erroneous apostrophe in the thumbnail is making my eye twitch
what kind of deal did you get?
Hey what servo motors did you use for the z-axis?
Unicorn t-shirt XL but can you ship to the UK? Pleeeeease?
XL. Thanks.
I would like a Tall XXL please
If you ship to the UK, i'll have large one, please.
DO THE TSHIRT!!!!!!!
Need a long hair wig for the outro, says a bald headed non head banger
Nice👍
"Most companies don't let customers talk to the engineers. " You never dealt with the industrial sector...
Shirt, Please! XL!
Are the ball screw mounts and motor mounts from arizonavideo99? If so how do you like them? I'll be doing this with a Grizzly G0759 for my winter project, and have been trying to find axis conversions and mounts.
They sure are, we did a bit of a review video for them a few videos back, but the tldr is that the kit is awesome. Really well designed and made. Seems like pretty good quality on all the sourced components as well.
Nice, I'll check it out.
Do you guys know if he offers a kit with extension blocks to increase column axis travel?
I think the way these are designed, the motors actually go under the moving part of the axis, so you kind of get over travel by default. I know on our machine, if you want over travel on the Y you have to cut a slot out of the center of the base. We opted for no over travel to start, mostly because it's already a bigger machine then what we are used to.
@@beachboardfan9544
I do hang around sometimes.
For the G0704/759 I just to the kit no add on right now.
