Remember back to Claire and Jamie relaxed and replete on the rug after some hearty make-up activity. He asks her what the F word means. Then he asks her what what Sadist means. I don't know that the word had been invented yet, but even with a good education for the times Jamie likely wouldn't have come across it just because of it's sexual connotation. It took a lot longer for words like that to "get around" in those more puritanical societies. Christie would very likely gone to his grave never hearing Sadist or masochist but that he heard it from Claire. I love how Jamie gives her his "I'm not helping you out of this one, Sassenach" look.🙊
"Sadist" is in the 19th century originated word, and was not around in the 18th century, and it doesn't only have a sexual connotation. Sadist is simply a person who likes to inflict pain on others, and it can have nothing to do with sex. And also "masochist" is firstly defined as someone who takes pleasure through sexual humiliation and pain, it is not the word's only meaning. It can be simply a person who enjoys pain - again, pain which has nothing to do with sex and it is also a 19th-century word. Those words weren't around at the time. If they were, these men would have known them.
@@alexanderdean8682 The word Sadist comes from the Marquis De Sade, renowned and unrepentant Italian promoter of perversion, and author of many books on subjects of non-nomative sex. He spent more than a few years in prisons for it. He died in 1814. The word most certainly does originate from a sexual connotation, even if some are trying to "clean it up" lately.
“People who prefer to suffer pain” 😂😂😂😂😂
I love how Jamie just walk out lol 😂
Claire: This masochist refuses the ether
Tom: ???
Jamie: Sassenach we covered this 30 years ago, not a good idea to use words not in use yet
This reminds me so much of the scene where she calls Jamie a f** sadist LOL
Jamie’s look 😂😂😂
