Chance is a modern day fisherman. Rob is a Cape Cod fisherman. Adam is Prince Eric from Little Mermaid. Austin is Sinbad from Sinbad and the 7 Seas. and Tim is Jack Sparrow.
I love that they even shout “hey” harmonically. Adam’s percussion absolutely drives this medley. As a lover of the sea, Chance has a tattoo of an anchor & treble clef on his arm.
This was Chance’s baby (first singer). He loves shanties on TikTok and brought the idea to the boys during Covid. They said ok and we’re so glad they did. Since they weren’t together during Covid the filmed themselves at home and yes, some were more into the pirate mode than others for sure. Tim (Capt. Jack Sparrow) was standing in a boat so he didn’t move much as he was afraid he’d fall over. He’s the bass and you could really hear him. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer was doing castanets!! How?! He’s amazing. Good reaction. Oh btw, they did a lot of content during Covid and they really helped me. Sunday’s Best, Folsom Prison Blues are some other songs during Covid.
HOME FREE doesn't just do their own version of something. They do it JUST AS GOOD or BETTER and sometimes multiply it. Take this one. From The Wellerman to a Medley of many Sea Shanties. Awesome. Great Post, Tauri. And thank you for sharing.
How good are these guys? The fun & energy in this is infectious. This was done during quarantine so none of the guys were even together. The editing of this was great & was done in the Tik Tok style. Love all the guys parts, with Tim's rumbling bass underlying it all. And Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal as always including sea swells & castanets. Amazing how he increased the tempo from one song to another.
You should do Patsy Cline's Crazy, and then Home Free's cover of it. Also, Don McLean and Home Free collaborated on a 50th Anniversary of American Pie.
I saw them sing this in the spring when they toured Canada. The audience had a lot of older people there, and they were pretty tame, so much so that Tim bawled us out for not being louder. Someone in the audience shouted, "Hey, we're Canadian," and he said he didn't care and that we needed to show more enthusiasm lol. But when this song came on, most of the audience stood up and cheered and clapped. I wanted to dance in the aisles, but just shouted and clapped as loud as I could. I love sea shanty medlies! x
My favorite little "hidden nugget" of this video is the little "HF" logo in the corner, it's a nod to the TikTok videos of sea shanties (ESPECIALLY Wellerman) that were popping up like wildfire during COVID. It's still hard to believe that they filmed this all separately, each singing their own separate parts, and it came together flawlessly.
Sea shanties were used to not only entertain, on ship, but to ease hard boring work. When it came time to hoist an anchor or raise a spar (horizontal piece the sails were hung on) up the mast, they would sing to keep everyone in sync. One man might be designated to lead the crew singing. Pirate ships would have "Articles" which each man signed. These were rules dictating everyone's duties, "shares", responsibilities, and even the rules under which they would handle prisoners. This protected them, somewhat, if arrested. We've all watched movies about pirates and sailing ships. The one most realistically detailing life on the sea is "Master and Commander". Check out the scene where they are sailing around Cape Horn. As the ship supposedly sails past the 'camera', you see (on the bow of the ship) one of the sailors sitting on a plank attached there with oval holes cut in it. That was their toilet. As they did their 'business' the waves would wash any waste off the side of the ship.
Hi Tauri 2 wow's firstly 51 percent so many congratulations, it is so richly deserved Tauri, now Home Free wow 2 what tremendous medley of shanty songs, I have heard these songs over the years at folk clubs and festivals but I don't think that I have ever heard them with such harmonic depth and richness. Graham
Fascination for the sea . . . . I so get it. Every time my landlocked self approaches an ocean's edge, the rhythmic thundering of the surf threatens to immolate my whole prior existence like a luckless sandcastle before the advancing tide.
Rob is a Merchant Marine , Chance is a Greenpeace Sailor , Tim is a Blackbeard Pirate , Austin is Persian Sailor & Rupp is a 1700 - 1800's Deckman Sailor.
These guys are always, always, always amazing ! But....... ADAM "FREAKIN" RUPP!!? !!!! what the he'll dude. Astounding.... he's a freak of nature... Supreme talent and epic hard work = home free.
Just a quote from something you mentioned... The human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all, but it is the most difficult to play. -Richard Strauss
Sometimes we were born before we knew.have memories of yrs ago.our souls travel for centuries. If you feel I've been here beforehand. Its cause you we're .its called a Old soal.you are.excepted it🤗
If you're interested in pirates check out the group Ye Banished Privateers, traditional instruments and vocals. These guys play live in renaissance festivals.
It was fun watching your expressions as this song progressed. Even more than usual, Tim's bass line is outstanding his first time through "sugar and tea and rum" (at 1:03 of your time stamp) rattled my glasses! It wasn't that deep (for Tim) really, it just smacked me! I LOVE the first section sung by Chase. Adam was superb (as always). Rob and Austin made the "top end" smooth and pleasing. I seriously doubt you will EVER tire of high quality a cappella. You'll get plenty of suggestions, but I like one of their "lesser-known" songs. Their version of Auld Lang Syne (And the PTX version as well) brings tears to my eyes. The first time I heard this (the PTX version) I actually had to pull over to the shoulder and hear it again. Which version is better? Yes. The song is very short, and there's no beat boxing... just pure, amazing vocal harmonies. I KNOW you'd like it, even if you don't do a reaction for it. Yet another great reaction, young lady!!
Loving pirates as you do, you should react to some Jimmy Buffet, If you don't already know him well. Two great songs you will like is "Son of a Son of a Sailor" and "Mother Mother Ocean". Peace.
For you it's the sea, for me the mountains. May I suggest "Misty Mountains Cold" by Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust? That's a rabbit hole you would enjoy methinks.
Loved your reaction. You should also check out Tim's new solo album. He has videos out for a couple of songs. I recommend "Will you love me tomorrow / Stay". He sings all of parts and layers it showing his full range.
If you love the sea and sea shanties then you should definitely play Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag it's in the Caribbean up to North Carolina, Florida, Cuba, and Jamaica, all about pirate's and also BlackBeard is in the game. In Assassin's Creed Odyssey it's in Greece and the people on the ship sings Greek music, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla they sing Viking music.
Chance is a modern day fisherman. Rob is a Cape Cod fisherman. Adam is Prince Eric from Little Mermaid. Austin is Sinbad from Sinbad and the 7 Seas. and Tim is Jack Sparrow.
Tauri, this song speaks to my soul too, being a sailor in the US Navy.
I'm an old swabbie, too! And I mean OLD! LOL
Sea shanties were sung by all seamen not just pirates! Home Free dressed as different seafarers x

Thanks Tauri - glad to see you back with some Home Free! Glad you caught the castanets, many don't. 🖤🍟
When I first heard this sond I was astounded about the energy in this medley. They made this a unique piece of music.
I loved your reaction. Honest emotions and you caught good details. Thank you.

"Adam Rupp's Drum Solo" is something to check out to see just how amazing he really is.

Tim was out in the backyard, wonder what the neighbors thought? His bass just rattles thru all the way thru!!
Believe it was his brothers in law' boat he was standing in. I'm sure the neighbors had a blast. Thank you for your great reaction.
I've probably watched 50 or more reactions to this, yours is one of my favorites.
They did this in concert I went to. Everyone sang, I joined with the "huhs".
Did you catch Adam Rupp's ocean waves crashing against the ship's hull? He is amazing with his castanets too.
I didn't, I will have to re listen for that!

Thank you so much Graham!

Love this song, thank you for this reaction 😊

This is so awesome! These guys are incredible! Love your reaction!
Did you notice "Captain Tim" was standing in a tiny "jon boat"?
Let's talk about Rob's mustache.. LOL, love it.. We see you Austin!
I love that shoulder tattoo! Not many stay that vibrant! 💞🥰💗😍🙏
Thank you!! It is still fairly new though, only got it done last year ☺
These guys are always, always, always amazing !
But....... ADAM "FREAKIN" RUPP!!? !!!! what the he'll dude. Astounding.... he's a freak of nature... Supreme talent and epic hard work = home free.
I've always loved ships too. Love your tattoo.

The tattoo on your arm looks badass and very well done.
This was one of the first covid vids and Sea Shanties were popular on TicTock so Chance suggested this as a subject for a song/video.
It is same for me but then I grew up in the High Coast, it is just water and mountains.
If you would like an adventure on the sea, watch this. I think you will enjoy it.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction Tauri! I swa homefree live a few months ago and they were amazing!
Sometimes we were born before we knew.have memories of yrs ago.our souls travel for centuries. If you feel I've been here beforehand. Its cause you we're .its called a Old soal.you are.excepted it🤗
Did you notice the waves crashing against the hull of the ship in "Away Santana", Tauri? ... Well I guess you will have to listen to it again.lol
Another that I've come to enjoy is Eva Under Fire. You will not be disappointed.
So many reactors miss the castanets from Adam. Glad you noticed them.
Home Free - have you checked out The Butts Remix? It's hilarious
I feel just like you do
Great reaction !
If you're interested in pirates check out the group Ye Banished Privateers, traditional instruments and vocals. These guys play live in renaissance festivals.
You need a place where the mountains meet the sea.

I'd suggest living on Lake Superior but then it might be super super cold
Aw, you'd like Oregon then, where the mountains come down to the sea. No need to choose. :)
Quarantine wardrobe

Hi Tauri..nice reaction and nice to see you. Next..please react PMS a new single from VOB
if you were a pirate in a former life. you gotta have a listen to Alestrom, pirate metal
I like your tattoo
As you like pirates, then a reaction to Alestorm is recommended.
I'm just curious as to who authorized giving Austin a sword? Lol the Sea Shanty Medley is amazing!
Hahaha I think I read it’s a relative’s sword
Austin has that sword on the wall in his home. And yes, I think it was handed down to him by a relative.
Loved your reaction. You should also check out Tim's new solo album. He has videos out for a couple of songs. I recommend "Will you love me tomorrow / Stay". He sings all of parts and layers it showing his full range.
Pirate life?? I just binged Black Sails on Hulu 😉 great show. I don't know if you'd ever consider a movie or TV reaction channel.
Such a fantastic show!! I'm not sure how they do it with all the copyright lol
If you love the sea and sea shanties then you should definitely play Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag it's in the Caribbean up to North Carolina, Florida, Cuba, and Jamaica, all about pirate's and also BlackBeard is in the game. Imo the sea shanties in black flag would have been awesome if these guys sang them

New subscriber here. great reaction. You should have some fun reacting to their Butts remix :)
I assume you're a fan of Alestorm then? And of course you've heard of Grace O'Malley, Pirate Queen of Ireland?
Nooooo - NOT Sea Shanty!
