Many years ago in Australia I managed to sever off the index finger of my left hand. Rushed to hospital with severed finger and was operated on by a top orthopaedic surgeon. Finger successfully re-attached. The whole process, surgery, recovery in hospital, follow up physiotherapy cost me zero dollars and zero cents. And I have ten functioning fingers.

I took myself to my local hospital emergency in a rural area a few weeks ago. I was in pain and thought I had gall stones. They did blood tests, urine tests and a scan with contrast. I was there for about 2 hours while they did that, and the results were that I had pneumonia. I left with antibiotics and didn't pay a cent.

You were lukcy. I had an infection in my leg and I went to Westmead emergency at 7pm and was still sitting in ermergncy at 10am the following day before I got admitted
I went to the infectious diseases ward.
One nurse thought it would be funny to 'joke' that he thought that I'd lose my leg
Another nurse b*tched constantly about how she didn't get support from her colleagues
I needed assistance with mobility. And in the days I was there I only got a shower on half the days.
On the final day I went three hours after lunch without any food because they'd decided to send me home, but hand't told me about it. So I was wondering where my lunch was... but they'd cancelled it
I should have been taken home by patient transport but instead the wheeled me down to the taxi rank and left me there... which didn't take into account I had to get FROM the taxi into my home.
I did however get free scripts though I had to fight to get them to fill it out. They gave me the presciption for me to go to the chemist myself - but as I had a mobility issue this was going to be difficlt. In the end they filled it out themselves and gave me the meds

Sydney trains were worse when I was a kid, but are getting better
They never made sense. Country trains that go up into the Blue Mountains would stop at Penrith, but wouldn't 'pick up' pssengers (just set them down - for people coming down from the Mountains) and then speed on to Parramatta, Strathfield, Redfern, and Sydney Terminal (Central).
But it made no sense not to pick up from Penrith a major urban area, when just one stop prior, at Emu Plains they'd pick up and set down passgeners
And Emu Plains was such a minor stop that the train was longer than the platform

I'm a venue manager (hospitality. Which is among the lowest paid industry in aus) I'm fulltime and earn just under $30 p/h.
I've had 6 surgeries over 22 years (4 kids, gall bladder removal and appendix removal, it didn't cost me a single cent) I did have an elective surgery with no health insurance...i paid out of my own pocket and it cost me $25,000. It was my choice. One of my kids is a type1 diabetic and has been hospitalised many times over 15years...zero cost. His insulin costs us $6 for roughly a month supply under our heavily subsidised pharmaceutical system. It has it's problems but am so grateful to have it. Both me and my son would be dead, without it.

Plus it was in a public hospital and I can not find any problems with the way I was treated, luckily they got all the cancer so no follow up required which would have cost me nothing as well.

The metric system is the most widely used measurement system in the world; it is also the primary measurement system used in the medical field. Healthcare professionals, including medical assistants, must have the ability to convert units of measurement within and between the metric and US customary systems.

Mind you, I refuse to have private health insurance and happy to forego the AUD$900-1000 bucks in Tax at the end of the financial year, because either I fork out over a grand for private health (50 yo single Male, Defence for 25 years but been out for 4 years now) or pay it to the tax man, so I just pay it to the tax man. the public transport is debatable, in Sydney it's amazing but if you try to catch a bus in adelaide they don't even have maps on the stops (or names of places the buses are going, only bus numbers), so unless you actually know where the bus is going it's very difficult for a tourist. Also the super depends, if you have a hard job which they have trouble getting people to do they will pay super on top. If you have a very easy job they take the super out of your pay usually

How are you going to advertise with sales tax included when every county and city has its own tax rate? Your catalogue and advertising will be incomprehensible, if not outright illegal!
In Australia goods and services (except for certain essentials like fresh food and tampons) are taxed at a flat 10%. If you buy something for business you claim back the 10% on what you paid but then you have to remit 10% on what you onsell it for. It's the same nationwide.

I visit my Doctor at least, bare minimum, once a month, never, ever, in my life, have I ever paid a single cent for it. I’m a graphic designer that works for themself @ over $200/hr + I work full time as a marketing manager @$47/ hr. I don’t have a degree, but I do have almost 20 years experience. I understand that not a lot of people are in the same sitch, but the % of people here that are is far higher than in the US. It’s having that that allows us more freedom. By that I mean, my income made it possible for my husband to quit his job and start his own business, this frees him. In return, I will soon be able to do the same while he becomes our support. This means we’re both free and the masters of our own destiny. That to me is the absolute beauty of our country. On American stats, as a mixed race, ‘uneducated’ female, these options wouldn’t be available to me. But Australia is the land of opportunity. We can be responsible for what we become, the only thing that holds us back is us.

An Australian politician referred to America as our cousins today. This couldn't be more wrong. yeh we get saturated with American culture through music, television, internet and movies and young people copy your actions and expressions, but it fades pretty quick. We both value freedom, empathy for others being victimised except by ourselves, and we appreciate American bravery, and we find American visitors polite and agreeable.. However we are not cousins, in fact our cultures have nothing much in common and are more likely to be the opposite. We have democracy, America has quasi democracy. Our freedom is different than yours, you are afraid our your government, our government is afraid of us .We don't have a law that gives freedom of speech and we don't need it, as it can be an excuse for the worst crimes, and we just say and write whatever we want anyway, Our education and health systems are opposite, as are our financial systems, our work and remuneration culture, our gun cultures, our political system to your presidential system, our patriotism compared to your hand on the heart under the flag thing, Our federalism to you state ascendency, our elections to your ridiculous election processes, our local policing to yours, our justice system, our prison incarceration system, our rejection of capital punishment, our corporatocracy compared to yours, Our directness compared to Americans. Our avoidance of the top 3 deadly sins of Greed, Religion, and ideology compared to America. If anyone is cousins to Australia it is New Zealand and some pacific islands

Thinking on your throw away “slavery” comment, I guess the Australian basic wage rate coupled with other benefits like paid 4 weeks annual leave, maternity leave, child care benefits, sick leave (accumulative each year if not used), paid long service leave (after 7 years of service in my State), penalty rates in some job sectors and other numerous wage entitlements like time and a half or double time pay rate for overtime etc, can, when compared to the erosion of wages and benefits in the USA over the last 40 years does sound like American may have a degree of economic slavery for low paid workers … I will stand corrected if I am wrong as this is just my take from a lot of comparisons made on RUclips between the USA and other capitalist countries. The excessive monetisation of healthcare/insurance, co-pays and higher education 🤷 sorry, going bankrupt for something that your taxes should provide as a basic human right doesn’t make America look like a workers paradise to the average Aussie.
BUT, America has cheaper housing and so much liveable space to house people that our 6% of arable land means the majority of us live in the State Capital cities.
Australian houses are getting bigger on smaller building lots which takes two average wages to pay our overpriced houses off after we save the big deposit. Housing stock and rental availability are a huge problem at the moment.
Chicken salt is great to season chicken 😂.
The drinking age here being 18 is based on if a person can fight and die for their country like an “adult” then they can have alcohol, just like you said. And, I did match my employer’s contribution to my Superannuation and had a nice little nest egg when I retired but it wasn’t an entitlement until the 1980’s so, 20 years too late to make a huge difference to my retirement.

If tax wasn't included, smokers would lose their minds.
It'd be something like, $7 for a pack of smokes, +$33 tax.

There are only three counties in the entire world that cling to the Imperial system of measurement, Liberia, Myanmar and the United States of America. they are all Third World Countries that can't afford to modernise or update their infrastructure.

At the end of this video, you said, I love America we do a lot of things great, what? I’m not being dismissive, I’m really asking, what do you consider America does really well. Just have to add that on top of our much better wages, we also get 4 weeks paid holidays every year, sick leave, maternity leave, stress leave, all paid. And if you work a public holiday you get paid either time and a half, double time, or even triple time, depending on which holiday it is and which shift you’re working. You guys are being robbed every single day!

I'm white and I don't get any help from the doctor and this is in Australia friends of ours down the road where we lived came to my place to get an ambulance because they were aboriginal and couldn't get the ambulance to come to their house. When I travel on the train and I don't anymore, there is fumes from the undercarriage that are so strong they make us go to sleep and bloody oath it's dangerous on public transport here, I know people who have been raped on trains. Anything I need here I can't get I was never allowed to have a driver's licence. We can only get houses to rent that are full of mould and filth in the roof that leaks through and made my children really sick and then they say we're not looking after our kids and try to take them. Australia is as bad as America just in more hidden ways.
