    About time the councils stop wasting our money

    • @mrslushydaminator4974
      @mrslushydaminator4974 27 дней назад

      councils getting budget cuts isn't always good when i was growing up councils had crews to manage everything from water / power / waste / garbage tips.... now everything is being sub contracted because inflation wont allow budgets to work... if you want rate help government needs to increase budget to take the resources back and inject funds back in to community's if they keep cutting budgets you will loose more and more in your area and it will be contracted at your rate expedience this is exactly how 2 waters almost started councils cannot replace water pipes from the 60s and this time government will not pay unless someone gets a contract....

    • @samocooper9070

      @@mrslushydaminator4974 as in the example he talked about it's not the amount of money it's the spending on vanity projects over decades and not replacing pipes. There was no funding cuts just directing councils to spend their money on the basics

    I for one am happy, I am tired of my council splashing cash on wants and then expecting me to foot the bill, 20% rate increases are unsustainable for the majority and councils need to tighten their belts!

    No matter how much money you give these central and local govt bodies they fail to deliver the basics let alone any material improvement. Despite the billions spent on consultants from Deloittes, PWC, and other consulting contractors; can anyone name a single central or local govt department that is better run than it was 20 years ago. They have all gone backwards. Wn council is more interested in cycle ways, rainbow crossings, upping car parking costs to discourage shopping in the golden mile, than it is fixing and investing in council basics like pipes and sewage. Luxon nailed it here.

    No more 'super cities' that have super spending on non productive or needed services. Auckland city has spent so much on building its 'super image' and on what it deems makes it number 1 instead of running its services for its inhabitants properly. Electricity, water, waste removal, roads are not their priority but doing up the viaduct, sprucing up government buildings, building stadiums and the like are. We don't need more bike and bus lanes carved out of already congested, poorly maintained roads that increase gridlock but better design, planning and provision of transport infrastructure including roads. Watercare and AT have big budgets but nothing to show for the ratepayers money they get - where and on what are they spending the money?

    Unfortunately our social system is governed by an unsustainable, non-scalable money system with a leader thinking he can run around fixing it like a whack a mole game.
    What luxon doesn't realise is that he is not in control. Real sustainability doesn't start with an apparent individual but all individuals working together as a human collective.
    If luxon real wants to help then he should provide people with a better governance system, one in which all New Zealanders can participate in and manage polices (i.e. rules governing the behaviour of services) together both on a local and global scale.
    Jai Adi Da!

      The rates will most likely not come down because of this. And if they did somehow, actually come down the public will be paying more money in some other capacity. Tax cut yay! Oh but now you have to pay more for the bus, or for prescriptions. If you judge them on outcomes, rather than promises, they suck.

    It sounds like you're quite frustrated with the ongoing rate increases and the slow progress on the Cathedral restoration. Many residents share similar concerns, especially when they see their rates going up without visible improvements. The restoration of Christchurch Cathedral has been a complex and costly project with numerous setbacks, impacting the timeline and costs. If you haven't already, it might be helpful to attend city council meetings or reach out to local representatives to express your concerns and seek more transparency about the use of funds and the project's progress.

      In 2023, the Anglican church has assets worth $ 2.87 billion, so they have more than enough money to fix the Christchurch cathedral. Stop taking the ratepayers and taxpayers' money. What a rip-off greedy people, how about you use some of your billions instead of begging off hard-working NZers
