    In this tutorial I teach you how to Ribbon Spread cards like pro. Or like a magician. Or like a pro magician. Whatever! 🤪 Spreading playing cards on the table is an elegant flourish, looks impressive, but is quite easy to learn! Great for beginners! I will teach you how to do this, with extra troubleshooting tips towards the end... PLUS a bonus magic trick at the end! Using the very flourish you have just learned!! 🤯
    Aaaaand here are the links I mentioned in the video...

    Murphy's Magic 23"x16": amzn.to/3fa708q
    Magic Makers 18"x14": amzn.to/35RKdds
    I measured my close-up pad, and it is 19"x14". I would not recommend going much smaller than the mat I have. So either of the options I listed above are fine. And in fact, when I order a new one I think I will go for the larger size of 23" width (the Murphy's Magic option)... because it would just be nice to have more room to ribbon spread the cards.

    Thanks a bunch for a great tutorial! Managed to pretty much nail both the spread and the ripple in a matter of an hour with zero prior experience.
    One thing I noticed while experimenting - spreading cards *along* their length also works, and works surprisingly well. I initially tried doing the ripple on a quite slippery mousepad, and failed a thousand times, eventually moving to the carpet and doing it perfectly immediately. However, when I tried rippling the horizontally spread cards on the mousepad, I nailed it on my first try. I still can't do the normal ripple on this surface, but for some reason the horizontal one works every time. It also looks even more trippy than usual!

    Tried this over and over again and could not spread the cards evenly.
    Edit: I figured it out. I'm using cheap Maverick Jumbo's on a desk mat (giant mouse pad with felt top) and it helps to regulate your downward pressure on the deck along with using your fingers as a regulator at the same time. So, I'm pressing down on the deck to make each card "grip" to the mat while also letting it slip behind the rest with my index finger. Difficult to explain, but I'm getting better.
    You're essentially regulating downward pressure on the deck, momentary release with index finger while at the same time working all of this in relation to the speed at which you're moving you're hand. The speed at which you move across the mat determines how you regulate the downward pressure and release of the cards. It's all connected. Physics, eh?

    Do not underestimate the size of the mat you need. You can see that he almost barely can do the spread before running out of space. If you go smaller than that, you can imagine what would have happened.
    I just browsed Amazon before using the link provided. The ones listed here isn't very prominent on the first search results (however they are highly recommended by the amazon reviewers). The ones that are listed on top are very cheap, thin, and undersized. Do not get those.

    • @JasonParkerMagic
      @JasonParkerMagic  4 года назад

      Yep that's correct! I do recommend a large mat... like those I linked to in the description of this video 👍

    My favorite peek for a simple key card is to hold the deck in my left (off) hand (or on the table) and cut roughly half the deck. With the top half of the cut in my right (dominant) hand, I casually point to the bottom half of the cut and ask the spectator to place their free choice drawn card down. The action of pointing naturally draws the face of the bottom card of the top half of the deck towards me. This will be the key card. I can peek the key card while looking directly at the bottom half of the deck where I’ve just drawn the spectator’s line of sight.
    I place the top pack down, which pairs my key card up, and now we can do any number of whole cuts.
    This works as an easy out if the spectator wants to put their card in the middle, if your preferred method is to place their chosen card on top of the deck - although I find this method more believable.
    You can even have the spectator make the initial cut, so long as you scoop up the top half first.
    Another out is to use the waterfall and have them tell you when to stop. Where they stop is where they will put back their card. Then the cards are already positioned correctly in your dominant hand for multiple opportunities to peek a key card.
