I do love how masterful and assertive he is when he drags Cazador from the coffin and throws him like a ragdoll. THAT'S exactly who Astarion can be with some tender loving care. He's strong, he's powerful, he's beautiful. He doesn't need to ascend to become all he's dreamed of being. He already is that. He just needs someone to help him see it. And in this moment, it's obvious to everyone.
I love how the "most replayed" part of the video is when Astarion says "I can be better than him" and then murders the shit out of Cazador lol. We all came for the same thing
I love how Astarion hauls Cazador's ass out of his coffin like "I dont fucking think so you piece of shit" that was awesome. And his howls of anguish after he stakes the monster who tortured him, just....to quote Inigo Montoya "that is the sound of Ultimate Suffering." He's finally free. 200 years of pain, finally over.
Imagine the satisfaction of FINALLY having the upper hand on a man that turned you into a monster, that has abused you, tortured you, kept you as a slave, and broken your spirit for CENTURIES. Imagine the catharsis that would come from stabbing him with his own knife over and over and over again until he's a twitching, bloody, pulpy mess on the floor. Imagine knowing that you no longer have to live in fear for the rest of your (eternal) life. I can barely even comprehend the emotions Astarion must have been going through.
i haven't even played this game, just know some of the lore from videos, and i was literally crying from how cathartic that was to watch knowing what Cazador has done to him. gorgeous scene

I mean he doesnt really have the upperhand in anything either way he loses he cant walk in the sun ever again and on top of that if he ascends hes not the same. So either way he doesnt really win its just sad.
@@LouisMopeNot going in the sun vs being physically, mentally, and sexually abused. I think not going in the sun is the least of his concerns now that he’s free from Cazador
I've been in an abusive controlling relationship, a couple actually, and to see Cazador get stabbed like 30 times then the wailing of Astarion afterwards... I immediately understood what he felt....true freedom...freedom from the terror that haunted him his entire undeath, freedom from the tormentor responsible, freedom from his own hatred and pain. You know, my Tav and Astarion REALLY didn’t get along for most of the game (Vengeance Pally with a selfless streak, so you can imagine how much they clashed lol). There was even a point where Astarion would greet me with active DISDAIN. I was honestly ready to kill him should he flinch at stopping the ritual. But as the game went on and I got to know him, I grew to really feel for the guy. I ended up becoming so invested in his story that I actually became emotional with Astarion when he was weeping after killing Cazador. Such incredible writing in this damn game. It had no right to be as good as it was lol

@destinygalearies7382 I don't think I've ever had a game make me feel so much emotion the way I did when I saw Astarion's reaction to Cazador's death.

I think this is probably my favorite scene in the entire game, I made him ascend but then I reloaded an old save because letting him ascend just didn’t feel right, and I’m glad I did because this cutscene was far better and had wayyyy more emotional weight. Those screams he did after Cazador was dead were of pure anguish and relief at the same time, that entire thing literally gave me chills.
Call me all the names you want to, but I had tears streaming down my face during this entire exchange. Get it out, Astarion, he can never hurt you or anyone else ever again.
I don’t know if this was added in a recent patch or if it was a bug but when Astarion broke down after killing Cazador, the classical version of I Want to Live started playing in my game instead of what played here. To me, it made the scene 10 times more emotional and really added a lot, almost like Astarion saying he wants to be free of Cazador, and he finally has it
I want to kiss the animators for such incredible work with emotions, the moment when Astarion falls to his knees and cries kills me in the good sense of the word
I get that hugging him wouldve been incredibly awkward and slightly inappropriate but..... I wouldve really liked to be able to do SOMETHING. Like go and sit next to him, gently touch his shoulder or upper back, give him a hug AFTERWARDS. SOMETHING THAT ISNT NOTHING.
I feel like after all of those emotions and memories flashing in his mind, in such an emotionally-heightened environment, he may not be as immediately welcome to physical touch. Although I actually kind of like the idea of letting him sit with it himself. To feel free by himself for a bit.
Your character looks lovely! I like (genuinely) that you gave Shadowheart just regular-ass well-made armour but then your Tav was like "I need to have Style"

This is nearly identical to all the choices I made just now. First run of the game for me, loved this scene! Made re-starting the game and working for his approval worth it ;) I'll prob do an evil run and let him ascend next to see how its different. Thanks for uploading!
Watching this after choosing to let him ascend is making me so sad... this is clearly the better option in my opinion. I don't think I had high enough approval to persuade him not to, but still. I really bought into the fact that these people were already dead, and it would be too dangerous to release them. I made a choice based on what information I thought I had but if I'm willing to give Astarion a chance, I should have been willing to give it it them to. Really got me out here questioning my morality 😅
These scene, as well as Karlach when she kills Gortash, actually brought me to tears. It was so freaking realistic, and shows exactly what happens to those that have been traumatized. I also like the scene when Astarian ascends....a bit macabre. How delicious!
Personally I would choose the same, but not the part choosing for the other spawn to free or die. I would say they are indeed innocent, but the cuts after shows that they can't even live a peaceful life and suffer from all the hunger itself, begging to relieve the hunger but they can't. It's not that I hate them or anything, but if I have to end the whole catastrophe of what Cazado made. I think killing them and end their suffer would be the best option instead.

I'm a year too late but F that... BG3 have a lot of beautiful moments but one thing that I don't see anyone mention - and what is also really meaningful to me - is not the fact that Astarion killed Cazador or he gained freedom. But the moment when he looks at Cazador's body and breaks down. Our Vampire didn't just realized he's free. He was abused, tortured and used like a dog on a leash. And in many ways he didn't realised that he's the scared dog here. He have power to overthrow his Master and kill him. To be free. He was in a way when he was infected with the tadpole. Scar on his back is as literal as his mental scars. When he look at Cazador's body, he realize that his entire world just collapsed. Illusion of power vanished and he grew from a child into adult, making his own decisions and live how he wishes to live but without sacrificing himself. He didn't just changed. He grown and endured unimaginable pain to live a better life
Okay, one thing that gets me is….why is he not a true vampire after this? If a spawn drinks their master’s blood, they become a true vampire and no longer a spawn, right? You can’t tell me that Astarion didn’t get any of Cazador’s blood in his mouth as he was going ham on him. It’s on his lips! All he’d have to do is lick them!
2:25 "Isn't that what you want?" For the longest time, I read this line in bad faith. Astarion is willing to manipulate you throughout act 3, slipping further into his old habits the closer he got to Cazador. But I think he's being genuine here. He is so scared and lost. The only thing he knows is that he wants to be enough for the person he loves and he doesn't believe he's enough as is. He doesn't want to be free for himself, but because he believes ascending will somehow make him whole enough to be loved. He won't be that pathetic, bloodthirsty spawn who died years ago. It's fitting then, that by showing compassion to the other spawn, Astarion finds it within himself to start living again.
Does anyone know why the second half of this cutscene (the decision about what to do with the spawns) does not trigger for me? it cuts off right before his siblings talk to him :(
Mine went really differently, like Astarion did everything himself (with me going "for the love of gods just kill him already!). Did you trigger the dialogue where Astarion becomes part of the ritual?
I got a bug, there were no cutscenes of him talking with the other Spawn or a choice to release or kill the captives. After kill Cazador and cry he immediately grab the staff and broke it. (Well even if the cutscenes play, I would still make the same choice anyway so I'm not mad about it. There is no cure for the kids nor the 7000 captives so... killing them is the most humane thing to do There is no "living" in the Underdark... 7000 are not a small number vampire or not if the Drow or Duergar found out about them they're gonna be killed anyway)
@@virgi92riku this video was taken before Larian started patching hard decisions when it came to his character. It doesn’t surprise me that they no longer make you roll for it. Considering they’ve also started making his evil ending….less evil.
I just noticed that the background music was different from what I heard in the same scene. I just wonder why🤔 Was it edited because of the copyright issue?
@@discendos I see! Yeah, that might be it. I really like the current version because the music complements Astarion’s behaviour and actions very well, but it’s a beautiful scene nonetheless!!
Has anyone ever seen the line we get from choosing "[INSIGHT] Look into your lover's eyes..."? I'm so curious and can't find it anywhere :( PS.: I tried to do it myself but Tav is an idiot with no Wisdom and also had a -1 debuff for obvious reasons so I couldn't pass the check. I tried several times before giving up.
Am i losing my mind? Everyone i talked to thinks this is the way. I personally think he should ascend and kill all 7k other vampires who would def harm and kill people in the hundred thousands if left unchecked. Having an ascended vampire against the absolute is good. Plus he is loyal to the mc in case he goes fkn around in bg4.

If a spawn drinks their master’s blood, they become a true vampire and no longer a spawn, right? You can’t tell me that Astarion didn’t get any of Cazador’s blood in his mouth as he was going ham on him. It’s on his lips! All he’d have to do is lick them!
SAME I was like... the blood is RIGHT THERE, just... be a full vampire ?? I assumed that was the end-goal for him initially
Cazador needed to willingly give his blood
Wish my character could hug him
I CRIED I CRIED I CRIED 😭. I FUCKING SATISFIED RN. ASTARION DESERVE THE FREEDOM. AFTER BEEN TORTURING FOR DECADES 😢
Great. Now I regret giving him what he wanted... this is so wholesome
Best performance :)
I CANNOT STAND THAT THEY CHANGED THE MUSIC IN THIS SCENE. It was so much better this way.
Oh my god... that's so adorable
Does anyone know why the second half of this cutscene (the decision about what to do with the spawns) does not trigger for me? it cuts off right before his siblings talk to him :(
same here!!! ugh i was so pissed off and sad!!!
I think it's bugged because it happened to me too.
I FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED, if you have the daylight spell active, the spawn will run away!! deactivate it before you finish the fight!
That does not look like someone having the best day of their lives.
Those are weeps of releif.
Finally free, Man he gave one hell of a performance here.
Why does no one do the insight check? I've watched through so many videos and nobody does insight
Did not expect caz to look like some slender Asian dude
How is everyone so clean after the fight? My party was absolutely covered in blood and grime
Your character so pretty ^-^
Thank you!!!
Oh, my baby..
I get that hugging him would be too much in this scene...but putting at least a damn hand on his shoulder? Larian? 😭😭
Bro on my save he was already covered in blood, it was a blood bath so enjoyable
this felt like a mass effect moment
Your tav looks amazing , that is why I miss mods on consoles
They changed the music for this scene a patch ago and it's really jarring. I prefer this version so much more
Why does he sound like Cicero from Skyrim?
I think that's his VA, actually
7000 are not a small number vampire or not if the Drow or Duergar found out about them they're gonna be killed anyway)
same the cutscene didn’t play for me it cuts off
3:26 if you want your heart broken
I was so engaged in this game. Had skilling the spawn broken my oath i would have been ok with that
Holy crap i never brought him so i missed this 🍿😎
This was the point at which I stopped hating Astarion.
(Ty for your patience w/ the serial comments,,) The animation got REAL for a minute there, holy SHIT
oh my god i forgot astarion has abs
That's curious. I romance Astarion and it didn't need roll nothing. Only some dialogues appeared. Maybe because I have a high approvation with him?
@@virgi92riku this video was taken before Larian started patching hard decisions when it came to his character. It doesn’t surprise me that they no longer make you roll for it. Considering they’ve also started making his evil ending….less evil.
I just noticed that the background music was different from what I heard in the same scene. I just wonder why🤔
Was it edited because of the copyright issue?
Nope! It could be that it’s from before the game went through patch 1 I believe?
@@discendos I see! Yeah, that might be it.
I really like the current version because the music complements Astarion’s behaviour and actions very well, but it’s a beautiful scene nonetheless!!
Its almost as if serana is destroying molag bal
Unscripted sobs. Our baby :
Cazador got that 🤓 accent honestly
I know Astarion is supposed to be the focus in the video but I can't stop staring at your character. Is this a mod?
It is
What did he carve on the stone?
He carves his new date of life.
Has anyone ever seen the line we get from choosing "[INSIGHT] Look into your lover's eyes..."? I'm so curious and can't find it anywhere :(
PS.: I tried to do it myself but Tav is an idiot with no Wisdom and also had a -1 debuff for obvious reasons so I couldn't pass the check. I tried several times before giving up.
You see that he’s not only scared but that being surrounded by so much death and blood has filled him with a lust for power.
well damn thats a hot character!
