So far 60 got delivered (20 from German army inventory and 40 from the storage of the industry). 40 more are currently being refurbished by the industry, potentially more might get ordered from the industry next year.
The Marder’s uniquely valuable now because we suddenly have a need for a mobile gun system that can deal with cheap drones (among other things.) Until recently its value was kinda questionable. But hey, I’ll take it! 🇺🇦
This was made in former West Germany during the Cold War where it has been designed to fight up against Russian BMP-1 to BMP-3s. What ukrainians can do is probably modify the turret to fire Stugna-p atgm provided it's needed to do so.
It's still got a nice gun tho. I don't think ifv mounted atgms are typically that useful in Ukraine fighting. If I understand correctly, marders are used to drop off infantry then move around while providing fire support for the infantry advance from a distance. The infantry can then use handheld atgms from closer range. If the IFV is directly facing a tank the situation is already a bit fubar.
I am sure Germany has some Milan missiles - but not for export. Those things were quite expensive in my active duty time and not manufactured in high amounts. The practical use was limited when firing from the Marder, because you can not use the turret system anymore properly, when the Milan is equipped for the IFV commander. The Milan was more practical when used by the IFV-troops with a tripod off-board - but the equipment was heavy and you needed 2 - 3 soldiers for a full loadout. So - meh.
Sadly, we germans have not much more in our depots to offer. I would also recommend the "boxer" as IFV, it has a bigger gun, is better protected and much faster. Also it is produced in several nations, that includes britain and australia, it will be available in much larger numbers.
As of now, 100 Marder 1A3 were delivered, 20 more being refurbished. It's a good question whether there will be a regular supply of them. Those 120 belonged to Rheinmetall, and their stockpile is empty now. Of the around 2100 1A3 the Bundeswehr had in the 80s, around 350 were sold around the world, 74 were upgraded to 1A5, and those 1A5s and around 270 1A3s are still in active service. And they will remain in service until fully replaced by newer Puma IFV and Boxer APC, which will take...a while. If there are still Marders stockpiled by the Bundeswehr in some depot, those could be refurbished too, but if they have all been scrapped over time - then that's probably it.
Ukraine should not hope that more of these vehicles will come from Germany to Ukraine. The Ukraine must start producing its own vehicles. Ukraine should finally achieve success, otherwise I assume that international support will dwindle sharply.
Those are Marders from my brigade. Our Panzergrenadier forces can't properly train anymore and have to resort to using unarmored four-wheelers instead, "imagining" that they are inside their usual IFV. As a soldier myself, I can neither support this donation, nor the continuation of this senseless war.
Its a decent vehicle and it provides WAY better protection than the BMP's However BMP-s are stabilized and have better armament. I really think that the Marder could use a replacement for its 20mm but its netter than nothing

The German Army have been having serious trouble replacing these for well over a decade now. Good to see they have started putting some serious effort into it now.
@@hustensaftvernichter3785 marders are like the warriors and Bradleys. Very good vehicles especially for protecting the crew and carried infantry but are obviously getting too old now for any peer on peer conflict. All need that 50mm bushmaster cannon, more engine power, some better system for firing atgm missiles and space to incorporate technology for things like drones or even radars. Still been impressed by the marders especially though. They will be great use for recon with the thermal sights and the flat open terrain and they are better than any BMP or other russian IFVs what are germany replacing them with? Loads seem to be going with the CV90
@@Ukraineaissance2014 The Marder definitely fails to outperform the BMP 2 and 3 variants. I do not know about the Warrior as I have only trained with British Rifles and Paras so far, both of which did not use IFVs. The Marder has a clear disadvantage in terms of firepower and the gun is not at all stabilized, which is also visible in the video shown here, whereas the BMP 2 and 3 (The 3 is ''overkill'' for the Marder -absolutely no contest in duel situations.) are stabilized, meaning that if the BMP crew keeps the revs up and the vehicle moving, the Marder is in serious trouble as it will have to try to outmaneuver the opponent who, given the firepower, already packs the bigger punch. Duel situations are always a nightmare, though. I have seen both models in direct comparison (Marder 1A3 and BMP-2 while training with Eastern European partners) and can conclude that the Marder has far better optics at its disposal and a roomier and safer squad compartment in the back compared to the BMP. Therefore, I would only feel somewhat ''safe'' when put up against light, unmechanized infantry. As the latter is getting more and more rare, I think getting rid of the Marder was more than just reasonable. The German Army has been doing its own thing with regards to replacements. In order to keep the sourcing organic (or so I assume), they have stuck with Rheinmetall and its ''SPz Puma'', which packs a 30mm fully-stabilized auto-cannon and an overall much better balance between firepower and armor. Night and thermal vision in it are definitely top-notch stuff, as well. The problem is, that it is the world's most expensive IFV and on top of that the Army has been slow to adapt so far with relatively few that are fully operable. There are in fact still quite a few Marders in the mix and I reckon that phasing them out will indeed take some time -We're getting there, though.
Well I'm really like BMP-2 it better than before maximum time, second there is really like made "marder 1A3 IFV" it's seen as really good before this one, keep up on good work.😎👍

outgunned by the BMP - even the Ukrainians admit that the armor only protects from machine gun fire and hand grenades, not machine cannon fire let alone the 30mm.
bmp-2 would turn a marder into swiss cheese, the 20mms cannot even reliably penetrate it's slopped upper plate, on top of that, the bmp-2 has atgms aswell as the marder, iirc bmp-2 also has a stabiliser, which the marder 1a3 doesn't have, it's simply outdated it's only good for anti infantry work and scouting stuff
It's a difference in doctrine. The Marder and the troops it carries were always supposed to operate in close cooperation with the Panzer Forces. The Marders and Panzergrenadiers cover the Tanks against enemy anti-tank infantry while the tanks cover the Marders against armored vehicles including other tanks.
I love the Marder but in the end it gets knocked out just as easily by drones or ATGMs as any other IFV or MBT. Just this week saw another video Marder 1A3 got destroyed by a Kornet in full drive.
The MG3 eats dust like a monster. It's a very simple gun and you can put it through a lot before it starts malfunctioning, as long as you keep it well lubricated. What you see in the video is virtually nothing. Afghanistan and western Africa have shown that the MG3 barely has any issues with dust and sand, even at much greater quantities.
@@hustensaftvernichter3785 dude I used MG3 in one form or another for several years for a living. And there is not a dust issue...there is s rust issue...and if the guns are kept that sloppy that they rust on the outside...I don't want to know what their insides look like
@@RoninTF2011 I second that! But the stuff you see in the video is still alright, I would say. Especially the bit under the iron sight is a classic spot for rust on these. If the receiver does not look like that, there shouldn't be any problem.
They are a bit outdated nowadays, and the 20mm lacks firepower.. At least 10 to 15 marder were already destroyed or pretty badly damaged in the last few weeks with some artillery and atgm hits wounding the crew pretty badly 🤔
If you mean the BTR80 series they were first build in the 1980s. BTR60 and BTR70 are not in active duty anymore or are used on the frontlines ( only BTR70 as command vehicel and such)
It's not up to par with most BMP variants. Especially without the rockets. This is the exact reason the Germany has decided to replace it. Better than no IFV at all, I guess, and it's not necessarily ''bad'' either -just outdated. If you're fighting enemy infantry without own IFVs at their disposal, this thing is definitely still going to cause serious havoc.
We saw the outcomes near Verbove... None Marder survived there more than 30 minutes. Does the Marder fire more shells? But they're not the same caliber..... 20mm on the Marder and 30mm on the BMP2. Please make comparisons on the same weapons. Next.
2 Marder have been destroyed and 1 damaged and abandoned, thats 3 in total. Not bad as they are since months in service. Russia has lost until now 538 BMP-1, 30 of 37 BMP-1AM, and 1.015 of the BMP-2(K), 25 of BMP-2M Berezhok, 13 of BMP-2 675, 128 Unknown BMP-1/2, 293 of BMP-3, 23 of BMP-3 688M. The Marder is also equiped with Milan guided anti tank missile.
Caliber comparision? The question is, who survives being hit by the other. With 15tons, the BMP-2 has not much weight for armor. As such, higher fire rate + better tageting gear + sufficient penetration = more deadly.
@@AkselGAL There is no BMP vs. Marder dogfight if they are use propperly. The MBT (Leopard) and Marder (IFV) form a joint strike force were everyone protects teh other, they rely on teamwork. If thsi works well in combination with air defense (like Gepard) they are undestructable. Using them separately is missuse.
@@AkselGAL The BMP2 fires only lead shells, the Marder can choose between 3 sorts of shells and the APFS rounds of the Marder have more penetration power on the most distances - up to 2.000 m deathly for the BMP2, depending on the side of impact - front or side.
@@Rick2010100 How many Marders in Ukraine ? 60 ? Marder are not used as much as BMP2. The Marder burns just as well as a BMP2 or a Stryker. @@lelolson3373 I am aware, but I'm annoyed with uneducated "journalists" and media sources trying to show of their "wunderwaffen", on both sides respectively.
@@axlfrhalo I would like to point out that the video also states quite ambiguously that the ''infantry can't be reached'' by incoming BMP2 ammo. That is an entirely false statement and they also know it, as their own factsheet shown in the video tells you the exact opposite. 30mm AP from a BMP2 cannon will 100% certainly pierce the sides and back of the Marder and also most of the frontal hits. What they mean (most likely) is that the driver's compartment is seperate from that of the squad, meaning that while it might kill the driver, it will not hit the Infantry in the squad compartment. I tihnk that is a peculiar statement, as it still implies that the IFV is destroyed, leaving the Infantry without its most valuable asset. It is almost a little cynical to say that in such a way.
@@hustensaftvernichter3785 The factsheet is wrong. The 3UBR8 APDS-T used on the BMP-2 can penetrate some areas of the front of a Marder 1A2 and M2A1 Bradley at ranges in excess of 1,500 meters. However it can not penetrate the uparmored M2A2 Bradley and Marder 1A3 at the frontal 60°. They are probably down to 3UBR6 AP-T stocks now anyways, even (considerably) worse performance.

Sucks that the French haven't given Milan ATGM's that can be attached to the Marder
The French should provide more Caesars, if anything.
According to "Le Monde" the French have already given Milan ATGM to Ukraine, in 2022.
So - meh.
@@Tepnox We gave all our Milan we could spare to the Kurds / Peschmerga years ago 😔

Sadly, we germans have not much more in our depots to offer.
I would also recommend the "boxer" as IFV, it has a bigger gun, is better protected and much faster. Also it is produced in several nations, that includes britain and australia, it will be available in much larger numbers.
the boxer is wheeled and therefore not quite on the same level. the _puma_ is considered to be the successor for the marder

Ukraine should finally achieve success, otherwise I assume that international support will dwindle sharply.
all german tanks have predator names. noice.
Anyone who says a BMP's 30mm gun can't penetrate a Marder is smoking crack.
Das Eisenschwein.
Those are Marders from my brigade. Our Panzergrenadier forces can't properly train anymore and have to resort to using unarmored four-wheelers instead, "imagining" that they are inside their usual IFV. As a soldier myself, I can neither support this donation, nor the continuation of this senseless war.
Ist dem Tatsächlich so? Erschreckend.
Its a decent vehicle and it provides WAY better protection than the BMP's
However BMP-s are stabilized and have better armament.
I really think that the Marder could use a replacement for its 20mm but its netter than nothing
Marder really doesnt provide better protection than a bmp-1 or 2 at all.
@@YorkshireFlea ???
Frontally Marder can stop BMP-2s 30mm AP rounds and the sides can stop 50. cal

It looks like the Milan Launcher is missing in this config of marder 1a3
The MILAN is not permanently installed on the Marder.
Britain needs to hurry up replacing the warrior IFVs so the old ones can be sent to ukraine, rather than dicking around pledging support to israel without public support and when israel has done nothing to help ukraine,
The German Army have been having serious trouble replacing these for well over a decade now.
They will be great use for recon with the thermal sights and the flat open terrain and they are better than any BMP or other russian IFVs
what are germany replacing them with?
I wonder if will ever see Marders and Bradley’s fighting together against Russian BMP’s.

Well I'm really like BMP-2 it better than before maximum time, second there is really like made "marder 1A3 IFV" it's seen as really good before this one, keep up on good work.😎👍

bmp-2 would turn a marder into swiss cheese, the 20mms cannot even reliably penetrate it's slopped upper plate, on top of that, the bmp-2 has atgms aswell as the marder, iirc bmp-2 also has a stabiliser, which the marder 1a3 doesn't have, it's simply outdated
it's only good for anti infantry work and scouting stuff
It's a difference in doctrine. The Marder and the troops it carries were always supposed to operate in close cooperation with the Panzer Forces. The Marders and Panzergrenadiers cover the Tanks against enemy anti-tank infantry while the tanks cover the Marders against armored vehicles including other tanks.
I love the Marder but in the end it gets knocked out just as easily by drones or ATGMs as any other IFV or MBT. Just this week saw another video Marder 1A3 got destroyed by a Kornet in full drive.

Dudes, take better care of you maschine guns...the TMG looks like shit. You don't want it to fail in contact do you?

Nice promo video but we haven't seen much footage of it except a few destroyed ones.
Ja ne, is klar! Was sollen die auch anderes in einem solchen Propagandavideo sagen!

The Marder lacks gun stabilization, pretty pathetic for a "modern" anything and significantly reduces it's abilities while mobile.
The marder is not modern
@@jonny2954 That's what I thought. Sloped armor makes a huge difference in the front. Eats too much space on the sides and is impractical in the back, though.
Glad to see I am not the only one who realized that the information there just does not add up. The Marder is good -but it's just not ''that'' good and you gotta take a BMP for what it is, especially when you are in a Marder.
Бмп вас фаготом сожгет а вы выстрелы считаете. Вон сколько их в степях Донбасса сгорело
Der Marder hat die bessere Panzerung und die bessere Bewaffnung, dein BMp ist Schrott.
Bmp is soviet era rubbish, just like most of the ruzzian army.
