You guys saved my butt again. On my way back from Sturgis this year, the spring detached itself from the kickstand. I'm not clear on how it happened, but when I went to put the stand down, it was obvious something was wrong. I looked up your video, leaned the bike against a building and was able to get it fixed in about 2 minutes. Thanks for all your great content.
I have done this the hard way so many times I thought I’d look into other methods. I saw guys stretch the spring and stick pennies in etc. When I saw your video I thought - it couldn’t be that easy, maybe it’s because he’s working on a softail and mine is a 4 speed shovel. After being frustrated the first go round I headed back out to the garage and went on the attack (it’s 97 degrees) even though it’s HOT! It was that easy! Thanks for the tip Ryan! I’m subscribed.

Can't get any better than that Edit next day: You may have guessed I watched this video because I needed to change my jiffy stand spring I was wondering why stand up to remove bolt, stand down to put back on.......duh Took me a little longer, I left the floorboard on and my fingers didn't fit in there real easy, and the old spring bottom hook was crimped, the old spring was also bigger diameter and longer........ probably thought crimping the end would hold it tighter Doc Harley said the reason the bike rolls forward a little causing mini heart attack is because the top bolt is not tightened to spec I paid attention to the effort it took to loosen, putting back on to 20lbs was way more effort. Now I have jiffy stand that stays up and doesn't let bike roll forward when I get off. I was looking at my Dyna, totally different contraption
I’ve peeled them off twice, once in sturgis and again last week loading a dead bike on a trailer. This is by far the easiest way to replace. Don’t ask me how I did it the first time in sturgis… not good! Thanks!

You make sure the kick stand is not bent at all then you make sure there is no slop at the mounting bolt.and make sure after a while the mounting bolt is not comeing loose.if it is after 4 monts.replace it with a new one with nylon thread they stay tight..if this dose not solve it then remove the kick stand anput a steel one on never was a big fan of aluminum kick stands or rear brake levers on any harley

Om.misding some thing here maintainance on.a kick stand ah no...with the old harleys you oiled the pivot point maintanance over why all these issues for a kick stand unless yhe kick stand is bent or screwed up the spring should never come off
Is there supposed to be a lot of play in it? This is on my road king. I’ve never really paid that much attention to it to be honest. Went and bought a new spring and put it on just like your video. Seems like there should be something under the bolt and washers at the top? I guess not according to your video. Does seem like there is a lot of play. Guess there has to be according to how it’s designed.
This is not the way to do it . Lean the bike to the right on a wall or on a jack stand ,remove the 1/2” bolt and little locker plate and rotate the arm all the way forward and then the spring won’t have any tension on it and it’ll pop off with a little spin and the stand will drop out of the sleeve. Clean up the old grease and grit and apply a little never seize grease, slide the arm back in it’s sleeve and hook the new spring on from the front side and finger tighten the 1/2” bolt making sure the locker plate is oriented correctly and the washer and lock washer are on the bolt and a little blue Threadlock is a good idea. Rotate the arm back and lift up on it and torque the bolt to 18 ft. Lbs. and you’re golden .
Very sorry , this was the best video of them all and the only way to do it and regrease etc. at the same time . Very clear & concise , excellent work . I was trying to tell guys on the other crappy , unsafe 10 penny method video to watch this one .
You guys saved my butt again. On my way back from Sturgis this year, the spring detached itself from the kickstand. I'm not clear on how it happened, but when I went to put the stand down, it was obvious something was wrong. Glad we could help Dan! I hope all is well with you and yours.
Put the sring back on abd this time push the spring closer and close the hole where it mounts then it can't fall off
I have done this the hard way so many times I thought I’d look into other methods.

Nice video, however probably among the easiest scenarios. Did you make a film on replacing the jiffy stand on a Dyna Wide Glide yet? That is a bit more complicated i presume. I have a 2000 Dyna Wide Glide and need to replace the jiffy stand ...
Not yet, but we are continuing to product vids for this channel.
Once the springs back on move it sideways and check for exess movement sould be very little if any movement
Thank you so muche, it's very clear! You save me!
What do you do when you replace the spring and it's still not holding up in place
I'm wondering why they even have that little bit of slack,
Excellent video. Well done.
I'm not sure if I placed spring in the correct hole or I need a new one. I knocked it off stand while loading on trailer
I'm only 5'3" and my softail slim kickstand is a bit of a reach. Is there something that can be done?
Great video. I’m having a hard time getting that top bolt out. Any suggestions on removing it, I don’t want to strip it.
Great video

Link to where to buy the spring I have a 2015 street glide
Can't get any better than that
Edit next day: You may have guessed I watched this video because I needed to change my jiffy stand spring
I was wondering why stand up to remove bolt, stand down to put back on.......duh
Took me a little longer, I left the floorboard on and my fingers didn't fit in there real easy, and the old spring bottom hook was crimped, the old spring was also bigger diameter and longer........ probably thought crimping the end would hold it tighter
Doc Harley said the reason the bike rolls forward a little causing mini heart attack is because the top bolt is not tightened to spec
I paid attention to the effort it took to loosen, putting back on to 20lbs was way more effort.
Now I have jiffy stand that stays up and doesn't let bike roll forward when I get off.
I was looking at my Dyna, totally different contraption
Thanks, appreciated.👍
I’ve peeled them off twice, once in sturgis and again last week loading a dead bike on a trailer. This is by far the easiest way to replace. Don’t ask me how I did it the first time in sturgis… not good! Thanks!
Glad we could help!

So what do you do when even a new factory spring won’t keep the stand from coming down?
You make sure the kick stand is not bent at all then you make sure there is no slop at the mounting bolt.and make sure after a while the mounting bolt is not comeing loose.if it is after 4 monts.replace it with a new one with nylon thread they stay tight..if this dose not solve it then remove the kick stand anput a steel one on never was a big fan of aluminum kick stands or rear brake levers on any harley
Kick stand springs are fine there not the issue its usaly a kick stand.issue bent or worn will.knock the spring off no play in the kick stand
Show where exactly the other end of the s p ring goes
Thanks alot.
You betcha!!

yass umm plain & simple, the way it should B. tks.
Om.misding some thing here maintainance on.a kick stand ah no...with the old harleys you oiled the pivot point maintanance over why all these issues for a kick stand unless yhe kick stand is bent or screwed up the spring should never come off
I would actually like to know some prices of the GIF he stands this is ridiculous but anyways God bless
Should have cleaned out the jiffy hole of old grease & grime before reinstalling.
Its easier to do this then that penny crap. Its one screw.
Untill.you.cgage something it will.happen again
