  • How to use a spacer when using inhalers such as Ventolin. Spacers are great devices that help you take your inhaler if you are struggling to synchronize breathing in with the release of the medication (the puff). In this video i demonstrate the use of one of the simplest spacer devices available - the Volumatic spacer.

This video is extremely helpful and informative, Thank you for making it - I am currently suffering from a physiological response i am having when i try to take my inhaler that presents as something in the back of my throat making a 'gurp' noise that i think is meaning the air is being sucked down into my stomach instead of my lungs and i find myself feeling quite unwell afterwards and burping up a lot of air. This doesn't happen all the time but it is distressing when it does happen as it makes me think i have failed to take my inhaler properly. Can you make a video explaining what is happening, what i can do to prevent it from happening and what the best course of action it would be for me to take if/when it does happen (presently i am taking an extra 3rd puff of my inhaler, and no more then that, on a two puff bd course of FOSTAIR pink inhaler for chronic Bronchiectasis with pronounced atelectasis via lingering consolidation leading to moderately severe restricted ventilation but no obstruction of airflow)

Can I ask . On another video they are showing a child breathing in and out slowly 5 or 6 times whilst the spacer is in their mouth. That’s the way I was taking the inhaler. Then another video says not to breathe into the spacer. Can you clarify please. I’m an adult.

If I try to use the pump directly I start coughing and then I can’t hold my breath.. with a spacer it is much easier for me 😋😋😋

You have to press inhaler when spacer in your mouth as mist does escape from value

Hi, normally inhalers have very few side effects because the dose of medication is quite small and targeted to the lungs (especiallyif used correctly). However need to discuss with your own doctor to choose the right inhaler in your own case

I was told to use one and they told me to breathe in and out two to three times to get the full dose.

Trying to get your dose out of this large vessel is like trying to suck 60 ltrs of petrol out of a tank using the plastic bottle you used to fill it up in the first place:

well yes kind of, but most people's lung capacity is a few litres anyway so all it takes is one big long breath
