After looking at about every forum possible this video was the one that set me straight for programming my BCT 15X. I downloaded the Freescan software, sorted out which port the USB cable used and then it was plain sailing. So much easier than stabbing buttons on the scanner. I would recommend having a look at the video, it worked for me.
Just received my Uniden BCT-15X and was a bit concerned after reading some articles on the scanner. I decided to give Freescan a go and thanks to your easy to follow video have managed to program 11 frequencies for my local airport MAN Manchester UK in the 30 mins of switching it on. The most difficult part was downloading the drivers required for Freescan to talk to the scanner ! Many thanks once again. Phil
I used to write technical manuals for the USAF, ITT Defense Communications. If a soldiers' life depended upon making this scanner operational out in the field with the currently supplied manual, he would be killed. KM7KK
Without any exaggeration I could not agree more. It’s pretty much a worthless manual as manuals go, and I believe that the scanner itself is overly complicated.
Hello friend, truebloodnutt here again, Thank you very much for the video using the freescan software. Unfortunately I returned my BCD436HP scanner to scanner master, for the main reason the digital voice decoding was horrible in my area. I am in a simulcast radio system area. I am currently awaiting the arrival of the BCD396XT scanner. Which will work much better in my area. The digital voice decoding on the 396XT is much better in my area. Thanks again brother.
i have the uniden bcd325p2 I had a friend program it but I am only picking up the fire department. the police department here used p25 phase 2 scanner do I have to put it under that on the scanner or will the scanner just pick that up? I am not good at this tec. stuff so need all the help I can get. I have freescan download already.
If it's a new trunked system, these basic scanners will not pick up the PD frequencies. Most analog scanner's won't, unless the local PD channels are untrunked and unencrypted.
I download my sites and groups/ID’s for the departments i want to listen too but I also receive a lot of traffic from other departments I don want to hear. I have a Uniden 396xt. Is there a way to only select the freq. you want other than doing a temporary L/Ø ? Once I turn the scanner off and on they al come back .
Having some issues with City of Va Beach, I imported and downloaded to my 396XT and only added the Fire & EMS TG's. All that comes up is the Primary CHannel and sounds like school busses. Any clue as to why Im not recieveing Fire and EMS
This has been a massive help to me. Thank you. I'm still having a bit of trouble understanding the operation of quick keys. I think I've got the assigning QKs but the actual use of them. That and once I have my scanner all programmed, how to get to a particular channel fast. I mostly use conventional. Do you cover that in a video or if not, point me in the right direction? I'm using a BC346XT
Does this replace Bearcats software? Is there a way to look up the info and copy it to the program. Sorry I am lost i have sds200. A man set up for me. The local E911 director. But I want to change a lot. I sure want to get it correct?
Just purchased the BCD325P2 and no matter what I do it says there is no comport. I used freescan but still same problem. Followed the video you have and still no luck, any thing you can add would be very helpful. WA!-ZOK Walton County Fl Gil
go to middle of page download the driver then unzip it. instructions are the page there. i would go to radiorefernce and read on programing this scanner it looks hard buy easy once u get it going. there are some videos ob youtube here to watch it should help. programming is the same as the 996p2.
Great video you have here, gave me a good idea on how to get started, a lot different than my old scanner. Do you have more videos based around the Uniden BCD396XT?
I did what you did, I Thought. The [cnv] massillon Local (1), !_[grp] emt fire [0] then I have 9 names and freq, tone code on 7 out of 9, clicked on to download, got errors, but have massillon local and emt fire along with the 9 names loaded in scanner, it states "Scan Mode, Nothing to scan" on bottom of screen it has "SO 1- - - - - - - -" "GRP- - - - - - - - -" Are the list suppose to have channels or is that set up by the scanner? Thanks, any help??? MikieB
I bought a used BCD996T, It has programs and freq. that I want to delete ans start over. Would I click :Erase all systems and settings" ??? then once that is done, unclick erase all, then continue with adding my new freq. ???? Thank you
IS THERE A WAY U CAN ADD FREQUNCIES TO MY UNIDEN BCD436HP I USE SENTINEL BUT I WOULD LIKE TO USE DIFFERENT FREQ FROM A SITE FROM THE INTERNET AND PUT UNTO MY SCANNER ON SENTINEL THANK U

weird issue I has with the freescan. Maybe it just wont adjust to resolution right. but i can see all the window except everything to the righr side of the GPS check box. Tho I do use a old computer with serial port.
hello k4ds I had added my railroad channels to the unit when I received it with freescan it worked great. I got in my car annd bumped it and like lost its channels and I couldnt get it working. I came home used the remove all programs and install my groups. they went in fine but now the scanner is super quiet no chatter from the railroads like it picked up when I first installed my channels. what did I do wrong why is it not picking up like it was help me.
hi there thanks for the video i set a system about 8 weeks ago and was working fine then the other night i tried to use the scanner and the system I created started saying nothing to scan so I checked that everything was alright and it was but still did not work so I tried to reload the system with freescan and I still get nothing to scan I did I factory reset and still having the same problem can you help
Hello, I need someone to help me, I programmed my Uniden BCD396XT using freescan software before and didn't have any problems I was able to listen everything but then I reprogrammed it and added extra Systems, sites and groups and now it scans but it doesn't pick up any signal I don't hear anything at all, I even did a factory reset and reprogrammed it again and still doesn't pick up any signal, I tried the weather scan and it does work I can listen to that so it isn't the antenna or speaker, I watched several videos on RUclips and did the programming exactly the same way and still nothing, the first time I programmed it 2 years ago when I bought it I didn't have this problem I successfully programmed it, Io also tried to program my mobile scanner BCD996T and same problem it scans but no signal, iit seems to me that maybe there is a problem with freescan software? Please help!
I just got a BCD966p2 scanner, I loaded all the info into the Freescan program and saved it to a file. Now can I upload that file to the scanner using the programming cable from my computer to the scanner ?? my county is all P25 phase 1&2 I need some help
You've used both the sentinal software, and this software for your BCD 436HP? Or is this for another radio? Right now, I am just using the database for programming my radio. But there are some things I want to monitor that aren't in the database. 1. UHF military aviation. 2. Common federal government. 3. U.S secret service.Side note. I love how the radio mutes encrypted traffic!
Steve I use the Freescan software is for the Uniden BCD396XT and the BCD996XT, it is not compatible with the BCD436HP. You can use the Sentinal software and create favorites in order to monitor other frequencies that are not in the database. Check out my other videos that walk you through on how to do it.
Hey there. What is going on? Why do Uniden not talk much at all about the BCD 396XT. Did they stop making the hard to program thing. I have a BCD 396 XT never used and it is collecting dust, As there are no shops in my area (Chapel Hill, NC) that program these things. For two years I have been stuck with this piece of junk. That should have never been made. Good Radio Okay, just hard to program it. Do anyone know a secret to Program them?
have a bearcat bcd996xt how do i get it to run thru just freqencies that i have found on my own and nothing else my pro 95 will do it my brain is on fire trying to understand
Thank you for making these videos but I am still confused about how to set up trunking systems, sites, and groups and organizing frequencies. For the system name, should I put the county name or the actual system name? For example my county is Conta Costa County and we have the East Bay Regional Communications System (EBRCS). I’d like to be organized either by county then city or by cities. How would I go about this? Also can you explain the quick keys?
Hi Matt and I will try to answer your question. For example, I have named a system "Amateur Radio". My group names are "1.25 Meter, 2 Meter, 70 Centimeter, 6 meter, and 10 meter" . My channel names under 10 meter are Simplex and Repeater. Under each channel, I enter the frequency. So you could name your system "EBRCS". For your groups, you could divide them by county or city. For channels, you could use Fire, Police, EMS, etc. and then enter your talk groups or frequencies.
Conventional is easy to program. I think most people who own Uniden scanners know how. I think there is more need now for digital programming p25. But I personally haven't found a decent straight to the point program video. Do you have any? Thank You.
Stringer Media I had the same issue as well but knowing that my county uses Project 25 Phase 2 trunking system, and in freescan you would use p25 standard.
Uniden bcd396xt, frequencies are you indicate me belong to another city, I found a pair of frequencies where I hear the central but not listen to the police car and handys, There is two frecuencies that I can hear in the scanner P25 appears on the screen and others that I hear a noise indicating a NAC code usually is 1A0.
I was able to down load the software on the Uniden home patrol to my computer and tweek it then send it to the scanner. Does the BCD 996XT have the same capabilities ?
***** No, the BCD996XT does not have the full database in it like the home patrol. It does have some statewide systems already programmed. You can use the Freescan software and make changes and add frequencies.

You should be able to scan local PD and FR frequencies without programming them all in first, but, if they're digitally trunked now, you likely will not hear a thing from them anyway.

You can listen to specific Service Types such as Fire, EMS, Police when you are monitoring the Full Database and/or your Favorites Lists. The Appendix has a list of Service Types and their general descriptions. Not all service types are enabled when you create a new profile or when you set your location in the scanner. When the scanner displays a Service Type that is not in the Favorite Lists, the scanner will display a "---" indication.
+rOY mOnster Byron here did you ever get your BCD 396XT Programmed. I am going into my third year and have collected much dust on the box as it is impossible to make sense of it, ot to get it programmed.. There are no Radio Shoppes in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham, NC that wil program these thing. I am wondering as to why did the Uniden Company make such a scanner.
This is a very helpful video. I'm getting an AT125 for Railroad monitoring, this will greatly speed the programming. Thanks from Tampa!

Bro I love this video, I bought a 996p2 because of you, learned to program it like a pro, best quality in sound out of any Uniden product!!
Brilliant , clear explanation, you saved me from using the scanner as a doorstop lol many thanks from England.
Can you please advise where can I obtain a clean version of Freescan software. I am new to using my new Uniden BCD325P2. Thanks.
I know it's pretty randomly asking but does anyone know a good place to stream new movies online ?
Did you ever figure this out? I'm currently trying .. same radio
Where do I find the FreeScan download on Radio Reference? I am missing something, I can not locate it. Thanks.

can I use this software on a BC75XLT scanner?
That tone setting does that stop that little noise click at the end of a transmission?? Not sure if it's the DPL or something like that?
Are you suppose to hookup your Scanner to this program/computer?
+Russ Davis You don't have to, but it makes programming the scanner easier.
Thanks so much!!! I was so lost!

Yes, you can load your frequencies into the scanner using the supplied cable.
Getting freescan can't access com 1 check settings, help what settings.

Thank you for making these videos but I am still confused about how to set up trunking systems, sites, and groups and organizing frequencies. Hi Matt and I will try to answer your question. For example, I have named a system "Amateur Radio". My group names are "1.25 Meter, 2 Meter, 70 Centimeter, 6 meter, and 10 meter" . Conventional is easy to program. I think most people who own Uniden scanners know how. I think there is more need now for digital programming p25. But I personally haven't found a decent straight to the point program video. Do you have any? Thank You.

K4DPS Ok thanks for the reply your video is helpful.
how do I set my bct15x to scan programmed Channels ?
how can i set a dpl tone
My answer is how program the scanner with the frecuencies that i found, they have a logical secuence or not.
I don't know what type of system so I cannot answer that question.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mmm ok, sorry for so many questions but here Nobody help, is there any way to know the order of frequencies.
There is no order to put them in. Program them in any way you would like.
ok, i hope works
must watch it again sometime, i fell asleep/

Do you have the bcd996t digital I like know how to program my county witch is Morgan county wv n p25 phase one uhf
also how to put in talk ids in it to by hand
You do not have to assign a Quick Key. It will work just the same.
You are correct. But when you assign a quick key, you have the option to turn them on and off.
Thank you! This made life so much easier. Now that I have my BC346XT programmed can you tell me how I can go direct to a specific channel? 73 N2BUF
Can you program digital frequency from fire department on it
You must have a scanner that receives digital transmissions. If you do, then yes you can program those in using this software.
Trying to find a webpage other than the one you posted for someone else and where to download software for my UNIDENSR30C! Not Really all that clear where to go to for this program to download at sixpotssoftware.com. Need your help! Thanks
Yes, they took that website down and I can't find any others that offer the programming software now.
Thanks for the video!!!

Just bought the BCD996P2 I wonder if this Free Scan Is Going to be Compatible With this? Anyone have any ideas?
Justin K I believe it will. If the BCD996P2 is just a BCD996XT with P25 Phase 2 upgrade then the Freescan software should work fine.
