Skinny legs can actually help. There's a common misconception about corking bats in baseball. It's not to provide bounce, it's to reduce weight. Like a bat lighter legs can be swung faster. Plus you can fight at a lower weight.
Minnesota Fatz but a lot of the impact and damage comes from having a big leg. Long legs could be as heavy as really big short legs. It really depends... Jon Jones for example was able to KO Cormier with a headkick even though he technically speaking has skinny legs (He is very strong with his legs though).
Yisrael Haber Jon Jones is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. He doesn't eat a lot of low kicks so the skinny legs help. If his legs were heavier he would've had a lower chance of landing that kick on DC.
Minnesota Fatz I said that because his legs are so long their mass is very big even compared to smaller legs that are a lot thicker... Its a question of what balance is best for high mass and high speed - it really depends what mass you have but it also depends on other things too...

Yeah that and bones hurt more than muscles. I used to spar with this Filipino kid who was mad skinny. I thought I would break his legs by kicking and boy was I wrong. I never underestimate someone with skinny legs anymore. Although I prefer a little more power in my kicks, even if that means slowing down.
I see some potential in Vannostrand. IMO he didn't use his reach advantage correctly. When he was in the middle of the ring he was throwing knees (as good as they were) which means he was helping Roos close distance and counter. Additionally in the first rounds he was using a lot of crosses opening himself for counters, he should have jabbed a lot of more. He was using it later in the fight but he was exhausted and didnt have much power. Also checking those leg kicks would work magic. If he could keep his distance with some hard jabs and some teeps or kicks to the body he would look a lot better. If Roos was coming in or having him in the corner that would be an awesome time to show his real good knees and some strong hooks if he can (he did have some good hooks in the fight). He could really be a future champ if he fixes those small mistakes but who knows

So its not really that Vannostrand was not using it correctly, its that Robin didn't allow him to use his reach advantage. Claudio Riffo obviously he was fighting a very game fighter and it's hard to shut down Roos's game plan. I am talking about future fights and potential. IMO he can be a much better contender if he does what I offered
The American kickboxing gyms are just not on the right level jet. Too bad.. An American champion would really open up the market in the US, would be great for the sport. Let talented young kickboxers train in the Netherlands for a year or two, it would make a huge difference.
