Next Tori Amos song should be her live version of Winter. So you can watch her play and sing a beautiful haunting song that will touch you deep into your soul.
I went to high school with Tori, and had the privilege of singing with her and hearing her play many times. We all knew she was going to be legendary; we just didn't know what flavor of legendary. This flavor is... very tasty.
That's amazing, I just love her, she seems to be so sweet yet so badass at the same time, my cup of tea❤ hope she brings you sweet High School memories😊
Silent All These Years, Winter, Pretty Good Year, and God are some other good ones by her. Both Tori and Fiona will always be 2 of my favorites for their amazing songwriting, vocals, and piano skills.
The title of this song, "Cornflake Girl" is a satire of Tori's real life. She was in a commercial for Kellogg's Just Right cereal in 1985.(you can find it on RUclips, Tori had short dark brown hair) The satire in the lyrics is her talking about her big break is a cereal commercial, and not being a real musician. "This is not really happening - you bet your life it is" The bitter taste of this really pushed her to get away from advertising and follow her dreams of music. "Never was a Cornflake Girl" But hey, everyone had to start somewhere.
The Kellogg bros and their former employee who stole their trade secrets are in the same graveyard. Those guys were cult members. They believed that masturbation was a sickness and it was caused by a diet of spicy and sweet food so they mashed up some bland boring grain, roasted it until it was golden brown, threw it in a bowl with some milk and called it corn flakes and grape nuts. John Kellogg invented the stuff and his brother Will ran the factory and did the marketing. He changed the recipe to make it sweeter to boost profits.
The real story behind it is as Amber mentioned at the end-toxic female friendship. Cornflake girls would hurt you at any opportunity, a subtle reference to FGM, which is often done or facilitated by females closest to the victim.
@@davidthaler7018 At the time this came out, I read an interview where she said she never wanted to act like the other white girls at school ("cornflake" being a known slang word for white person), and preferred to hang out with people of color ("Hangin' with the raisin girls"). Since Tori has given different versions of the meaning of this song, I am not saying this one is the "correct" answer. With her explanations changing all the time, it's like she is the Coen Brothers of music. 😄
I saw her in concert earlier this year. At times she will turn to face the audience straddling the piano bench. She'll play a keyboard with her right hand and a the piano with her left hand.
@@RandomJane104 Bet she picked it up from watching Billy Joel. He played a mellotron and a piano at the same time in concert on Just the Way You Are. He tape looped it on the board in the studio instead of using a mellotron.

I'm mostly a Metalhead too and I've been to Tori four times live! I've heard this from several other people, I think Tori Amos and metal are siblings LOL
You really should check out Tori Amos live at Montreux 1991/1992. Winter and Silent All These Years are incredible songs. Her performance of Me and a Gun will take a piece of you. It's amazing yet deep and painful.
I have been lucky to see Tori 5 times including her 1st tour back in 92 for Little Earthquakes. She never fails to impress and the range of her music is great. I would recommend Jackie's Strength, Cruel, Concertina, Caught a Lite Sneeze, A Sorta Fairtytale, Job's Coffin (duet with her daughter Natasha), Unrepentant Geraldines, Trouble's Lament. She has many great covers like Leonard Cohen's - Famous Blue Raincoat, 10cc's - I'm Not in Love, Nirvana's - Smells Like Teen Spirit.
You had me at Squeeze and Portishead but lost me on Radiohead. I don't care what anyone says, they were a one-hit-wonder (Creep) that continued to pump out unremarkable music.

Other favorites of mine are: "Silent All these Years", "Winter", "Precious Things", her cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "God", "Pretty Good Year" and "Girl". There are many more but these are the ones that immediately pop into my head.
So happy and grateful you finally reacted to Tori. However...You MUST watch her LIVE!!!! Try Precious Things Live in Session. She is the kind of artist to watch live. You will see....❤

Guys!! Im so pleased! I wanted you to find more tori amos to watch and listen with us. I think you would enjoy a lot her live version of Winter (live at montreaux 91 with the blue outfit), the talent and genius of tori playing piano live and also a song about her relationship with her father. Jay will love that. After that, you should try a newer song by tori where she sings with her 14 years old daughter called promise, amber would melt with the song and lyrics
Carbon is another absolute BEAUTY of a track when you want to experience her complexity of vocals and piano work, but more than that also just a really interesting and unique song too. Also DEFINITELY check out Spark, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Baker Baker, Hey Jupiter, Winter or Precious Things for other particular standout and strikingly ORIGINAL tracks from Tori ...
An artist so amazing in so many ways. Her "Hey Jupiter" live from 6/4/05 is one of the most ethereally gorgeous things I've ever heard: Just her angels-envy-it voice and her "Bad Boy" Hammond organ. Her bravery in Montreux in 1992 in performing the harrowing "Me and a Gun" automatically qualifies her for a Humanity gold medal. The power and losing-herself-in-the-music's-moment passion of almost any of her 7+ minute live performances of "The Waitress" are hypnotic and breathtaking. An artist so amazing in so many ways.
Some more 80s female singers or female led groups: Sass Jordan (Canadian rocker) - if you’re gonna love me, I will make you a believer; Alannah Myles - Love is; Missing persons - words, walking in l.a., destination unknown; Toni childs - don’t walk away, I’ve got to go now; Michelle shocked - if love was a train; Lone justice - shelter, ways to be wicked; The motels - total control; Romeo void - a girl in trouble, never say never
Been a fan for 20+ years, seen her live 9 times, and while this is the arguably one of her most popular songs, I'm always still mesmerized by it. It still hits, every, single time.
If you revisit Tori, try her live performance of “Winter” from Montreux. As the parents of daughters, it will move you. Gorgeous “coming of age” song that she wrote for her dad. ❤️✌️
Kudos to Tori Amos. She is a true artist and completely original. I’ve always had the utmost respect for her. Everything she writes and sings is packed with emotion. 🕊❤️🎼
Imagine how hard/amazing/otherworldly it is to conceive of a piece like this. So much is going on. I love it. I hear something new everytime I listen to it. Did she really think to put all that in there? A different level.
One of the best songs of all time is "Winter", esp. in the live at Montreux Version. A very emotional song and a piano master piece. I'm sure you would love it.
Tori’s debut album Little Earthquakes is one of the greatest albums ever. She was arguably the true talent of the 90’s, but because she is a woman and plays keys instead of a distorted guitar, she is completely buried under the Nirvanas and Smashing Pumpkins etc.
How weird. I love and know every Tori song ever. And those are the 2 songs that do not like. Plus Jackie's Strength. Maybe my 2 favorites are the ones you don't like...
She was in a commercial for Just Right, which you can look up on RUclips, but that's not what this song is about. Cornflakes were invented to curb masturbation and some of the lines were inspired by female genital mutilation in Africa. There's a lot to it though. ;)

Back in the late 80’s, she fronted a pop-rock band, Y Kant Tori Read, and Matt Sorum was the drummer. After they broke up, he joined The Cult for a bit. After THAT, he replaced GNR drummer Steven Adler in 1991.
Echoing the recommendations of others here: "Winter", "Little Earthquakes", "China", and "Precious Things" are amazing songs from the early years in Tori's career. I think you would love those and be incredibly impressed. "Winter", live, especially, is a performance to blow you away. Tori's cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is breathtaking.
1994 i was 21. I just came back from an overseas deployment. I had PTSD. Tori Amos and the UK band Portishead helped me. I also got Cocteau Twins albums. Garlands. Head over Heals. Really released some.
Tori is a deep dive artist for me. Precious Things, Silent All These Years, God, Spark, Donut Song, A Sorta Fairytale, Crucify, Me and a Gun, Sugar, Bliss, Jackie's Strength, Honey, Cooling. Yep, Tori's a deep deep dive.
My wife and I recently starting watching your channel together and we love you guys. She has seen Tori live 78 times so you could say she’s a super fan. She was so excited to see you reacting to her. And we’d definitely love some more! Thank you guys for your channel and what you do.
I certainly recommend that y'all do more of her songs, but I also highly recommend seeing her live. I've seen her live multiple times and she is incredible. She can play two pianos at once sitting between them!
The lady who sings the "man with the golden gun" part is Merry Clayton, famous for singing the chorus with Mick Jagger on The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter"
She`s fantastic, I played this and other songs from her in an FM Radio station in the south of Brazil, it was in the late 80`s. The piano, the voice, the bassist, OMG! Unforgettable songs from Tori Amos. And there`s no guitars (I love guitars, but not in her songs). That`s why I`m here today, listening it again!
I mean this as a 100% compliment - I love how she will tiptoe right up to the the line of creating a coherent pop melody and then just deliberately blow it up every time. Just insanely talented and artistically uncompromising. In another life she could have "sold out" and been a huge pop star.
So glad you guys revisited Tori Amos, she is a fantastic artist. I hope that someday you give Ani DiFranco a listen, she is another powerful 90s female artist.
I love "Bouncing Off Clouds" and "Caught a Lite Sneeze." You have to watch live performances of these songs to see her playing piano and keyboard simultaneously in an interesting pose ("Bouncing Off Clouds") or switching back and forth between piano and harpsichord on the fly ("Caught a Lite Sneeze").
Oh yes. A uniquely talented singer-songwriter, with piano chops to boot! If you like this one, then you'll want 'Sweet the Sting' on your to-listen list...
This came outta the blue for me , not usually my fav sorta music , but this just stuck in my head - left field but beautiful. She’s lived in the uk for many years now and is so welcome 👍🏴
If you continue with Tori Amos, I strongly recommend "Caught A Lite Sneeze" and "God". "Cornflake Girl" is one of my most favorite Tori Amos songs. But this isn't the original version. This is a later, remastered version. The bridge is quite different, but not so different that it completely alters the song. It's still solidly good. It's a shame you can't change the video title but, oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"Snowflake?" Me thinks you mistyped. Great song, and great reaction. Ms. Amos is, and always will be, one f my favorites. You should check out her version of "Feels Like Teen Spirit" or her version of Eminems "97 Bonnie and Clyde". She isn't afraid to put herself out there. She was a survivor of an assult, and she sort of sings about it. "Me and a Gun" where she lightly plays, and talks about the attack. Before she made it big, she was in a band with Slash called "Y Kant Tori Read?" She got her start playing at a piano bar for tips, and the two times I saw her in concert, she stops midway through and takes requests from the audience. I got to hear her do "Suzanne" and "I Ran". I hope you continue to react to her music.
Next Tori Amos song should be her live version of Winter. So you can watch her play and sing a beautiful haunting song that will touch you deep into your soul.

One of the best songs of all time is "Winter", esp. in the live at Montreux Version. A very emotional song and a piano master piece. I'm sure you would love it.
My top song by her - the Piano is amazing no doubt. God is another banger
I go wild at the piano on this one, especially towards the end. That solo at the end I usually need to rewind and listen a few time.
Tori’s debut album Little Earthquakes is one of the greatest albums ever. She was arguably the true talent of the 90’s, but because she is a woman and plays keys instead of a distorted guitar, she is completely buried under the Nirvanas and Smashing Pumpkins etc.
yes
She's also eccentric af.
Really? Because she's a woman? Maybe it's more likely that she just didn't have a connection that alternative rock did with the majority of listeners?
@@katatonickiwi8310 who were men?
@@katatonickiwi8310 I meant to say the true talent of alternative rock.
So happy you checked out more Tori! I think you'd enjoy 2 of my favorites. 1000 Oceans and China.
How weird. I love and know every Tori song ever. And those are the 2 songs that do not like. Plus Jackie's Strength. Maybe my 2 favorites are the ones you don't like...
@@jamietingey7498can't please everyone 😂

Wow, ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG AND IT'S MEANING!!!
Cornflake Girl is a reference to her being on a commercial for Cornflakes as a young girl.
Love her Cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit
She was in a commercial for Just Right, which you can look up on RUclips, but that's not what this song is about. Cornflakes were invented to curb masturbation and some of the lines were inspired by female genital mutilation in Africa. There's a lot to it though. ;)
@@DiogenesDecibelCornflake girls are those who pretend to be your friend but would hurt you without hesitation; that’s a subtle reference to FGM, which is often done by or facilitated by those closest to the victims. Raisin girls are rarer (think cereal, box) and of better quality.
@@davidthaler7018 Yes, you are correct. As with anything Tori related, a book could be written about this song.
Saw her when she toured with Alanis in 99...oh my...lots of talent at that concert!!
So glad you did this song - it is really amazing. Happy you liked it
Back in the late 80’s, she fronted a pop-rock band, Y Kant Tori Read, and Matt Sorum was the drummer. After they broke up, he joined The Cult for a bit. After THAT, he replaced GNR drummer Steven Adler in 1991.
I should listen to that one again, seems like it was a very different sound than what followed
I saw her twice live; she’s a force of nature, lol. 👍
I forgot about this song! It takes me back to high school and all the amazing female artists of the 90s. The eclectic voices and songs were so good!
I mean this as a 100% compliment - I love how she will tiptoe right up to the the line of creating a coherent pop melody and then just deliberately blow it up every time. Just insanely talented and artistically uncompromising. In another life she could have "sold out" and been a huge pop star.
A beautiful Tori Amos song that always makes me smile with thoughts of romance and freedom is "Sleeps with Butterflies"
Tori was such a clever songwriter. She took the songs off into all directions.
Caught a lite Sneeze is still my favorite song of hers. Tori alternating between the piano and harpsichord. So talented.
A Tori Amos song with a very hard edge is Precious Things. It will give you chills!
Amazing artist. Great live, too. Her catalogue is a deep rabbit-hole. My fave albums are Choirgirl Hotel and Boys For Pele, personally.
So glad you guys revisited Tori Amos, she is a fantastic artist.
I hope that someday you give Ani DiFranco a listen, she is another powerful 90s female artist.
I love her song A Sorta Fairytale.
She’s lived in the uk for many years now and is so welcome
👍🏴
More Tori Amos, please. When you learn who she is as a person you'll be even more amazed.
Before she made it big, she was in a band with Slash called "Y Kant Tori Read?"
She got her start playing at a piano bar for tips, and the two times I saw her in concert, she stops midway through and takes requests from the audience. I got to hear her do "Suzanne" and "I Ran".
I hope you continue to react to her music.
You've got to see Tori play that piano live. Amazing performer.
