The 2 elk scene was truly amazing-- like a painting turned alive ** Umm the scene choice was just bang on ----
I've seen just about all your videos. This one is perhaps my favorite. I have watched this one multiple times as I prepare mentally for my upcoming RMNP Elk rut trip. Unbelievable video.
Hard to believe in this kind of weather and low light you can get such killer shots.
Now that the border is open again I look forward to going back to the Teton. You should consider coming up our way in Alberta this winter to photograph snowy owls.
Steve, your love and knowledge of wildlife, your enthusiasm and willingness to share are inspiring….not to mention your photos and videos are phenomenal. Thanks for sharing on your channel.
Absolutely gorgeous elk pictures! Oh how lucky to be able to get in your car and photograph those majestic animals! I also enjoyed the video especially just the antlers moving just above the grass.
Yay a video from Steve! Graupel, we call it snow pellets.
Fantastic video. Being a diehard still photographer I find myself increasingly drawn to video.
The tones on that first series is out of this world. Fabulous!!!!!
I just stumbled upon your videos, beautiful work. You clearly love what you do. God bless.
Majestic and Beautiful Steve….
Wonderful video and pictures Steve! Would it be possible, in the settings info you share with each picture, include the lens and mm shot? Love your enthusiasm and excitement and enjoyment of nature!
Now that I've picked my jaw up off the floor, just wanted to say wow. I am definitely inspired now. Thank you so much for these videos and hopefully someday I can take your workshop. ❤
Nice vlog man. I loved those elk images (and the b-roll)!
Love the content Steve, hoping get out there soon!
Great images Steve! Thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks for sharing, love it!
love the elk shots steve. The owl is my favorite subject. Hope to keep seeing more of your outdoor vlogs brother.
Beautiful and amazing shots Steve.
Awesome video, just love the sound of those Elk calls.
Great video as always. Fantastic images.
Love the music selection during the video of the elk. Great work Steve. Brings back a lot of fond memories of the park. Can't wait to take my young son out to see all the fall colors/wildlife. Again, love the art.
Great video Steve, and photos to match 👍🏻
Awesome video! Keep them coming!
Great stills at the end of your vlog. Totally agree always good to be out whatever the weather.
Nice Setup and great shot!
Great video Steve. Always find them inspiring.
Thanks Steve for sharing another awesome video! The photos were fantastic. I love your subject matter!
Amazing footage Steve! Really great to hear your thoughts as you get into position and get these phenomenal shots
Great shot of the “almost fight.” 👍
Great captures, Steve.........your reward for your daily treks. Good to see you.
Love it Steve! Another great video. It’s also so nice to see spots in this video I’m now familiar with. Miss that place daily.
Fantastic! You are one lucky guy!
Magnificent beasts. Lovely video, thank you.
Great video! Thanks for sharing : ) Awesome shots!
One of my favorite Vlogs of your yet.
Nice seeing a video from you. Enjoyed every minute. 👍👍
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Steve. I am really feeling the urge to get back to the Tetons. Great job enticing me. Again! Cheers
Great shots!!
I really enjoy your vlogs thanks for sharing. I hope too make it sometime next year to Teton national park. Thanks again Steve. Have a great winter.
Lovely shots. I like especially the walking elk (1/60s). Great time to be out there, thank's for sharing!
Beautiful place and the pictures are really beautiful from the Elks and the one from the trees. Stay safe , enjoy...
Just joined and I love the stories behind the photos. The story can be one of the best parts of the photo. Thanks
Magnificent elk bulls and nice background ...
Hi Steve !!! Great Video !!!
Great, thanks for sharing...saw some of your wolf photos, awesome
That grauple sound reminds me of pop rocks… Another awesome video and the photos are amazing! 👍🏻👍🏻
I would love to get a great gray owl.
Kitchen Confidential is wonderful, I recommend "The Emerald Mile " next.
Thanks I’ll check it out👍
Phantastic shots mate. The biggest wildlife in the field and forest of my country are kangaroos or crocodiles if on land.
Beatiful pics good job
Hi Steve; It was great talking with you that morning. I got some of the same bull Elk that you did. FYI, I never saw any Great Gray owls in the 10 days I was there. Went to Yellowstone and didn't see any wolfs either in Lamar Valley. I was 0 for 3 in the owl, wolf and Griz sweepstakes. I had a great time photographing scenics, fox, moose, elk and just being in the wilderness. Oh yeah... That offer I made for your lens still stands, LOL
Was this around the 10th 11th time frame. I was out at Pilgram creek with my family and may have talekd to you a few time as we were both trying to find the Gray Owl that had been seen up, I remember you saying you had seen Steve a few times. I was there when some had seen a Grix=zley (maybe bruno ) out at two oceans, but no luck for me seeing any grizzlies while at GT, missed 399 and her cubs tow dayn in road by about 10 min. Me and the family were lucky though and see a nice pack of wolves up in YS which I loved and though the pics do not come up great was till very happy.
@@TheGuitarsadist Yes I was there 10th and 11th. I do remember speaking with you. Glad you had a great time.
@@boblacourse1430 WE did have a great time with our first visit to Grand Teton, Now back in Central California back to work looking forword to going to see the family in December and hopefully make it up to the COnwingo Dam and get some Bald eagles also. Never got to see the owl, but since being back at Vandenberg Space Force Base, did get a nice shot of a great Horn Owl and some California Condors over at Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge. Trying to get out of my RV here this morning and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway towards Big Sur and see if I can spots some Zebras at San Simeon and maybe some more condors at Big Sur. Best to you and enjoyed the chats at Pilgram Creek while we were there. Be safe and good luck shooting the Wildlife.
Nice! Steve
Love it. Great work. I just discovered your channel.
Wonderful subject isolation with that 400. A day well spent I would say.
Hey Steve you’ve been missed, I was wondering when we were gonna see another video from you. I can’t wait to watch this one, hope you’re well 😃
All is well thanks!
@@SteveMattheis Grizzly Bears are in fatten up mode right now, unfortunately a lot of conflict with Grizzlies and Elk hunters this fall that did not end well for the Bears, including sows with cubs
Nice video, I live in South Florida, so I don’t get to see the wildlife you see in the Teton’s. I am also a fan of the owls (they are beautiful birds). Looking forward to your next video.
As usual, a great video with beautiful photographs. Well done. Hopefully the owl will show itself next time. Sixth time's the charm :)
It's been a tough year in some parts of Central Alberta this year's as well. So far I've only seen one snowy owl this year where they have been for a number of years. No great grey's to speak of. One great horned.
Apparently the Snowys are quite bit further south toward the 49th. Great video as always. Happy New Year.
all owls are tough to track down in the forest unless you follow there calls and they continue to call until you find them. Ive had some luck with Barred Owls , and Screech owls. Ive seen a Norther Sawhett owl once in my lifetime but non since.
Graupel ya say. Local weather guy intro’d me to that term last week. And I always thought it was sleet.
Anyway, last elk shot was cool!
You must have been there right after we were ! Great shots !
Here I watch a video of beautiful pictures of elk being taken, then I go to my game chat where a guild member just posted a video and pictures of the dead elk he hunted last weekend.
Love the clouds and rain. Just like home here on the Oregon coast. Photography under those conditions really brings out the natural colors of the scenery and your subjects. I hope you can get your hands on a Z9. We would love to get your honest opinion of the new Nikon.
Hope you are enjoying vacation time!
I have a Z9 ordered, we’ll see when I get it…
Missed all your shows I'd like to see them I'm a handicapping
Any thoughts about the Z9?
I can’t wait to get mine…
Welcome to the Anthony Bourdain party. Loved his TV series. He is missed. Best ever was his dinner with Obama in Hanoi.
what about getting photos of Mountain lions. those are my dream bucket list wildlife shots.
A lovely video just before bed. Thank you. Tomorrow, my challenge will be to photograph Jasper, my granddaughter’s kitten in the wilds of my house, while she visits friends. I’m sure Jasper wil cooperate…
My favourite elk photo is very deer to me.
Boooooo
Good to see you again! I've been wondering where you had disappeared to. That shot where the the two bull elk were bowing to each other was pretty cool. Such a magical place out there in Northwest Wyoming. Has it been harder to vlog with all the crowds or just a time constraint with work?
All of the above…😬
I’ve been watching reruns for weeks after watching every video you put out. It’s cruel to make us wait so long for those of us who have to live vicariously through your images (I am gently teasing by the way)! It was great to see you up and about, it seems you are putting that 400 to great use and I guess you added a Ninja 5 to your video kit for more flexibility.
So when are you getting the Sony 600 f:4 GM? I want one, I don’t shoot nearly enough to justify needing one, but I still want one :-)
Steve great vidoe and thanks for sharing, by chance was thi taken around the 11th 12th Oct? I think I seen you on a dirve by as I headed up to Pilgram to try to spot the Great gray also (no luck evne after 3 days trying). I did talk to a robert (Bob) as we both sat up on side of road in Pilgram trying to find the owl.
Great elk shots. I wish you could publicly shame the idiots that whistle at the elk. As a midwest amateur it shows there everywhere
Great to see you back in action again Steve! Question: What did you fill your beanbag with as it appears to be fairly light? After seeing one of your earlier videos I purchased the same bag and filled it with beans…..it’s kind of heavy.
If you check out his Gear link in the vid description, he fills the bag with Buckwheat Hulls, which are quite a bit lighter. There's a link to some on Amazon in there too.
@@BraedenRoesler Thanks for the information. I must have missed that part.
As always enjoyed the video. Great shots. I was wondering what type of camouflage you are using on that big lens and where can I get some? thanks
The camo was on the lens when I bought it used. I think it's made by alphaguard...
Great video, Steve. Are people allowed to hike off trail in the park? Thanks again!
Yep
Enjoyed the video and stills of the bull elk. I don't recall you "shooting" wildlife with such slow shutter speeds in past vlogs.
All the time...
@@SteveMattheis Apparently I need to pay better attention 😬
Nice :o)
Hey Steve, Crazy good video as usual buddy! I have a question for ya ... When you shoot from the window bag rest, do u use image stabilization on that 600mm? And if so, what's your, sharp in focus average on average? Thanks, keep them coming!
Yes stabilization is on 99 percent of the time
Great photos as always Steve. Looking forward to when you get the Z9 (as I also ordered it). What is mounted in the hot shoe on your A1. Is it a Ninja type device to basically co-witness what your are seeing through the lens but now you can video and take stills at same time?
It’s a ninja👍
Thanks Steve. I’ve watched most (all?) of your videos and love them. Not sure if I’ve seen you use or talk about the Ninja before. Would you ever do a video explaining how you use it in your process, the value you see to it, and how others might enjoy it? Thanks again Steve
I saw the wolf shots on instagram…hoping we get a video out of it. 😁
Unfortunately I wasn’t vlogging those…👎
Is that just a HDMI Ninja monitor on top of your camera? Is there a video explaining the theory behind it? Thanks
No better way to start the day than two 5/6 point bulls and the sound of an elk bugle! You’re getting too popular..I miss the more frequent walks and the sights around there. Thanks for sharing.
Ha! I’ve never been popular…no reason to start now!
Great video as always. I didn't see your external monitor listed in your equipment link. Whatcha using?
Just started using it. Atomos ninja…
@@SteveMattheis thanks!
btw, what do you have to protect vs a grizzly encounter? I imagine pepper spray would only season you & tick a grizz off? Nice video once again.
Bear spray. 👍
Beautiful elk photos. Just curious, what lens were you using to make those photo?
Thanks , Sony 400 2.8
Hi Steve! Nice video! What about the Z9? Did you preorder it?
Yep
Great video. What was the screen attached to your hotshoe?
Atomos monitor/video recorder
Hi, great video! can I ask what’s on the top of your camera so you can record what’s happening through your view finder at the same time as shooting images?
It's a atomos ninja
What do you use the monitor on top of your camera for if your camera already has an lcd screen?
Steve do u have a link for the field monitor you are using in your gear list?
Sure
amzn.to/30O6D1i
Nice! Curious 400 or 600 on those elk on the ridge (w w/o TC)? Serioulsy looking at the 400.
Saw the 2.8 in the end images.. Now I know! :-) Nice work man..
when did you film this? seems like a late bugle? I've heard that elk are rutting later in the season ...
Silly question! What type of footwear do you use when wandering around in the trees and grasses? I envy your patience.
You should subscribe to my email list on my website, I did a nice write up on this… but my favorite hiking boots at the moment are the Hoka Speedgoat mid…
What advantage is that monitor for video?
Hey I missed you. I’m not watching this now. I’ll watch it later when I can have a whiskey
Which trippd legs are you using?
Those elk are magnificent creatures, but their coats are a little rough. Next time maybe you could brush them down first.
BTW: The black and white's are "other worldly". Have you been doing some long distance traveling you haven't told us about?
